Replaced alternator two times within a year and now need a third. Started June 2018 while away on a trip, all lights on dashboard light up with no warning signs. Everything failed. , brakes barely worked to stop, no power steering, windows would not go up/down, no air, no flashes. . . . Etc. The second time July 2019, battery light comes on, then goes off. A day later had the battery replaced. Although the battery tested well according to the company, they placement due being under warranty. The following week, again the battery light comes on during highway speed and car begins the same issues as before. Car was towed to dealership. Dealership states it's the alternator once again. Here we are December 2019 with the same issues. . . . Not to mention the passenger airbag light never goes off as the dealer states it's nothing.
I have been having years of problems with this vehicle. Shortly after purching it in 2015, the climate control unit started (and continues) to turn on randomly whenever it wants to, the a/c stopped working completely, and the blind spot sensors are on 100% of the time. More recently, the vehicle kept having to get jump started every morning for about 2 weeks until finally it wouldn't turn over at all. I have replaced the battery 3 times, the alternator twice (the first time after the vehicle stalling out on a major highway a long way from home), the fuel pump was just replaced, and then I find out from the garage that changed the fuel pump that the tipm needs to be replaced. I am now currently waiting for a new tipm from the dealership. I have been without a vehicle for 3 weeks now as this part is on back order. This vehicle has cost me thousands of dollars in the short time I have owned it and has been very unreliable for me and my family, including 3 children.
Trouble starting, battery light and all dashboard lights on car kept reving up and down heater was in full blast and would not turn off windows would not open and I could not put car in neutral to get towed and had to be dragged also the trunk would randomly open when I would walk outside. All o this happened while the vehicle was running and I was driving down the road. Except for the trunk opening and closing, that would happen when I would walk out to the parking lot it would randomly be open. I had to have it towed and since they couldn't put the vehicle in neutral it was dragged out of the driveway. It was so hot I almost passed out since the windows would not go down and it was blowing 82degrees on high in 85 degree temperature outside. The Chrysler dealership said it is the tipm gone bad and it also now needs a new battery and alternator because it was all ruined. $1996 +tax. It is still at the service department. Because I have not been able to pay for it. Now I see that there have been recalls for the tipm on numerous town and country vans. . Why wasn't mine listed and it is doing the same thing?.
I have had alternator, fuel pump, and battery replaced underneath the van I can hear a noise like a vacuum sound coming from the fuel pump like a fan is still turning even though the car is fully off. I have seen other reports similar onlinwthat are online.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler town and country. After the vehicle was turned off, the battery power drained and the vehicle could not be restarted. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who replaced the battery and alternator, but the failure continued. It was later determined that the fuel pump relay remained activated even though the vehicle was turned off and the ignition key was removed from the ignition switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer (east tennessee Dodge, 2774 n. Main st, crossville, TN) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
Tipm module has been deemed defective by multiple mechanics. I was informed of an active investigation into this. Van refuses to start. Have not had van running in two months now. Replaced battery and alternator to eliminate those as the problem.
So me and my family we're heading to a birthday party on u. S. Highway 64 going to huntsville alabama and we was about ten minutes out from our city in winchester tennessee and all of the sudden the van turns its self off at approximately at 50 miles an hour and lost all power to vehicle and power steering was out then there was a simi truck behind us and I guess he thought we was slowing down on purpose and blowed his horn and passed by. We managed to get the van to the shoulder in the grass and called a tow truck. The tow truck driver tryed to boost the van up and it started then died again so we had to have it towed in. We called Chrysler and they didn't help at all but to tell us to take it to the dealership which they was closed so I fixed it my self and all it was is a bad alternator. There should be some kind of warning when this stuff is going to happen because it was a scary situation at a high speed with your family with you.
Battery light came on, dash lights flashing, windows not working. Then everything working. Alternator tested at 14. 7 volts out of 15. Cranking amps on battery down but tested good. Replaced battery. Same issues. Has not stalled but rpm's dip. Loss of some power when travelling up hill. Not sure what to do next.
Car would crank but not turn over. Brought to dealer and they replaced alternator. Problem persisted, they replace battery. Problem worsened, random electrical issues when driving, car cutting off and stalling in intersections, still not turning over intermittently when parked. Was told my tipm module is bad. Apparently Chrysler is aware of the issue and is only replacing in some cars, but not all. It was very scary when the car was stalling while driving then not starting. Also was stranded on vacation due to car not turning over.
Driving on the highway started to lose power and was lucky enough to be able to pull into a repair garage where the vehicle died. Had to have a new alternator put in. Had no warning. .
Alternator went out at 86k. Known issue with exact same part # on other Chrysler products have been recalled. Van is in the shop now getting a $480 replacement installed plus 1. 2 hours of labor for a part that if on another vehicle would be covered under an existing recall.
Driving down the road and the vehicle stalled. Vehicle had to be towed to the dealership where rockwall Dodge service department determined that the alternator failed and had to be replaced.
When traveling to florida from buffalo, the battery light on the dash came on just outside of orlando, florida. It slowing started to affect the vehicle with the transmission not shifting and resulted in the engine running at 5000 rpm just to maintain 55 mph in a construction zone with no pull off to safely leave the highway. The battery finally died when we reached our destination and it was the alternator that had malfunctioned. The temperature that day was over 100 f. It could have caused an accident had I not overworked the engine.
