Investigations Summary: NHTSA's office of defects investigation (odi) has received 5 complaints alleging an internal failure of the steering gear box resulting in a complete loss of steering control in my 2008 f250 and f350 super duty trucks. One complainant alleges the loss of steering resulted in the vehicle crashing into a parked vehicle. A second complaint alleges failure of the steering gear box resulted in a roadway departure at 35 mph. A preliminary evaluation has been opened to gather information to assess whether the subject vehicles contain a safety related defect. The odi complaints cited above can be viewed at www-odi. NHTSA.
