Note: this investigation has resulted in
a vehicle safety recall. The office of defects investigation (odi) has identified 14 complaints alleging incidents of alternator failure resulting in engine stall while driving with no restart in model year 2011-2012 Dodge charger vehicles. Half of the complaints involved incidents that occurred while driving at or above 40 miles per hour. One incident alleges stopping the vehicle in a traffic lane with smoke issuing from the alternator. A preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect.
