Note: this investigation has resulted in
a vehicle safety recall. In March 2011, Chrysler submitted a non-influenced recall on model year (my) 2010 Dodge journey, grand caravan and Chrysler town & country vehicles for inadvertent ignition key (win/fobik) rotation from the run position to the acc position. According to Chrysler, when the vehicle is initially started and the ignition key is released from the start position, a spring force rotates the key back to the run position. However, in some instances, the switch may over-travel leaving the ignition key between the run and acc position. While in this intermediate position, harsh roadway conditions or driver interaction with the ignition key can cause the switch to move to the acc position which may disable the frontal air bags in a crash where deployment is warranted. A review of the odi consumer database identified a number of owners alleging that the my 2008-2009 vehicles may have a similar defect as the my 2010 vehicles. In addition, some my 2010 owners have reported that they have experienced the defect condition after the recall remedy was applied. This recall query has been opened to assess the scope and effectiveness of recalls 11v139 and 11v151. The odi reports cited above can be reviewed online at http://www-odi. NHTSA. Dot.
