Automatic Transmission problems of the 2008 Dodge Avenger - part 2

When my husband went to leave work our Avenger (automatic transmission) would not shift out of park. Fortunately a CO-worker is handy with cars and took apart the gear shift panel and showed my husband that there was a pink piece broken and that he would have to move this piece by hand to shift gears. We were told at oriely's auto parts that this piece is called a shift lock and is not carried at those types of stores. As this happened yesterday (Saturday) we won't be able to contact the Dodge dealership until Monday to find out how much it will cost to repair. After doing online research I have found this to be a common problem on the 2008 Dodge Avenger.

I am unable to shift my 2008 Dodge Avenger sxt car out of park. . . I have done research and found out there are a lot of others with this problem.

I own a 2008 Dodger Avenger. For no known reason, the shifting gear wont shift and is stuck in park. If it does go into gear, for no known reason it pops back into park, causing a major risk to others that are on the road not to mention to me and my family!.

2008 Dodge Avenger. Will not shift out of park into any gear past reverse. Can get it to go into reverse if hold the shifter manually, but feels spring loaded back into park.

I have 28,000 miles on my 2008 Dodge Avenger had for 2 years and today it wont shift out of park.

I purchased the 2008 Dodge Avenger last year and I've noticed not even once the brakes were newly installed at 20,000 miles you can feeling the braking system through the steering wheel. My main concern is the shifting. Without warning after class the shifter would not move from park. Leaving me stranded. The engine runs fine, and I followed the manual and other suggestions by the dealer. What needs to be done for this to be taken seriously? this is ridiculous and Dodge needs to be held accountable. I have been to many sites regarding this issue. According to Dodge they are not responsible. And warranty doesn't cover this issue!.

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger and the vehicle is stuck in park and no manual override to correct the problem. I have done some research on the internet as well as spoke with someone with Dodge/Chrysler and they are aware of the problem, but have not placed a recall or TSB on the vehicle. This is a major inconvenience for me. I have researched and their are an enormous amount of concerns and complaints about this issue. Thank you.

Parked vehicle, tried to move it later, shifter assembly inside console broke and would not come out of park. Disassembled, found cheap plastic parts for interlock had broken. Read online that this is a common failure on 2008 and 2009 Dodge Avenger models.

My 2008 Dodge Avenger is having a major shifting issue. When you shift the car into drive it will pop out and land into nutural. There is also times that this will be very hard to shift out of park. There is several complaints on the internet that shows the same issues. I called the dealer and was told that they have heard complaints but has not heard of a recall. My car is out of warranty and will cost me to bring it in to get it looked at. Please let me know how I can move forward to get this into a recall before this pops out of drive when I am going 55 mph and have an accident.

Power train: automatic transmission. 3rd time since purchased March 2008. Last time a few months ago. Driving on wet road this morning pulled car into parking space, will not come out of park. Car still under warranty last time had to pay. Car only 44,075 miles. Last two times took car Dodge dealer fro service.

My transmission went out at 56,000 miles. I had taken the car in at 33773 miles because it was not shifting right. They could not find anything wrong with it. I had taken the car in 3 items since purchasing it due to transmission issues. I drive a lot for my job and need a reliable car. I now have to pay for a new transmission. I called Chrysler and they will let me pay only $1380. 00 but I do not feel I should have to pay anything since I had the car in while still under warranty and they could not find or fix the problem. Avengers have transmission problems that no one wants to address. Chrysler needs to be held accountable for poor transmissions.

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. While driving approximately 10 mph on normal road conditions. While proceeding to a traffic light the gear shifted into park without assistance. There were no prior warnings. Roadside assistance was called to the scene. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated the failure was contributed to a defective component in the gear box. The repairs were performed on the vehicle for the failure. The failure and current mileages were 52,390. The VIN number was unavailable.

The cause of the problem is known to be a faulty design and the use of a brittle plastic component within the assembly.

The gear shift has also failed and will not shift out of the park position which made it impossible to drive the vehicle. My 2008 Dodge Avenger will not come out of park. This occurs randomly without warning, as I attempted to start my vehicle and leave on June 2, 2010.

Vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, automatic in drive, when signal changed, removed foot from brake and car reversed while still in drive hitting the vehicle behind me. This event happened after 5 days of having possession of the car. Second event happened 20 days of ownership. Again stopped at a traffic light, car in drive, would not move. Car has to be shut off and restarted to correct problem. This has happened 2 more times to date. Car has been taken back to dealership each time and problem has not been corrected. They can find nothing wrong with the car. I feel this a very dangerous problem, especially with the car going into reverse, while in drive.
