Engine Cooling System problems of the 2008 Dodge Avenger

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. The contact attempted numerous times to start the ignition however, the engine would not respond. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they stated that the engine would need to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 07v473000 (engine and engine cooling) but was advised that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

We bought this car used a year ago. Soon after the ac compressor went out. We had it repaired. Then the brakes went out. Had them fixed, but they still grind and are not right. Had the rotars looked at and fixed, but still not good. Then the ac blew again, had it repaired again. Then we heard a loud noise when car idling that sounds like a scream. Then the ac blew again and now their is a grinding noise in engine and it sounds like a lawn mower. We are very unhappy and wrote to Dodge. Oh wait this is all following the shifter breaking (pin issue) and having to ask Dodge to make this a recall which they did.

On Tuesday may 31,2011 at 8:00 am I was driving about 40 mins when I approached a stop light. I turned the a/c on and noticed a plastic smell. I turned into the gas station to investigate. In less than two mintues my entire engine compartment was in flames. The car is a total loss. My vehical was not included in the recall that could have prevented this. Dodge is responsible!.

I purchased this vehicle from a used car lot a year and a half ago. From the very first day I purchased the car, I had problems which are recoreded with the place of purchase. I was told I could not get my money back. The only remedy offered was for the actual car dealership who sold me the vehicle would fix the problem. The first problem ive had started with the head lights, it then went onto my entire electrical system that gives milage, warnings ect went out. Soon after that the alarm system, horn ,and door locking system. There after "a pin" in which holds the gear in place went out and would not operate. The next thing that went out was the entire air conditioning and heating system. On or around April 12 there was a what looked like a spark near the air conditioning panal. When I removed the panel, there was evidence that there was a small spark or fire that actually melted a switch on the cooling and heating elements. It has yet to work since then. Today the 11/29/11 my car completely stalled while I was turning into a very dangerous intersection. This car is a total death trap waiting to happen. Unfortunately I am a single mother of 3 children with very little options finacially to do otherwise. I have attempted several times to schedule recalls to be fixed by the Dodge dealer and they have not been helpful at all. There is no rental car offered and the estimated time of repair is not feasable. I hope this information will help.

I bought a 2008 Dodge Avenger in July of 2009. From the time that I purchased the car I have had nothing but problems with it. The front driver door latch would malfunction causing the door to come open and/or not shut at all. This happened twice. Dodge corrected it the first time but refused the second time. My left speed sensor went out and had to be replaced; the airbag light would come on and stay on and Dodge told me the defect did not include my VIN number; my car gout stuck in park and Dodge would not help me with that either. On June 30, 2010 while driving on hwy 41 in port charlotte florida my engine compartment burst into flames. There is a recall on my car as to this defect also but, once again, I was told by Dodge that it did not include my VIN number. I have been ran in circles for one week with no answers or assistance from Dodge. I have only asked that they provide me with transportation until the cause of my engine fire can be determined and yet again, no response from Dodge. I felt in fear of this vehicle and called Dodge on several occasions asking that they do something about it.
