On 3/11/13, I reported to Dodge case # [xxx] that when driving on wet / damp roads the car will stall out for no reason. This has happend to me while stopped at a light, slowing down going through a toll or even while turning in an intersection. I have felt it to start to stall while driving at 65 and have hit the gas to stop the problem. I phoned Dodge who told me . . . Sorry there are no recalls. I then phoned my local Dodge service department who immediately told me that yes they have had this problem in the past, the suggested is a sensor on the throttle or throttle body. The cost for repair is around $750. I happened to see there was another complaint on your site regarding this. Because I feel as though this is a very serious danger hazard, I filed a complaint with the department of transportation # [xxx]who suggested I contact you. I think this is a very large concern and something that needs to be addressed immediately. I will be paying the money to get my vehicle fixed out of concern for my own and others safety. I drive the interstate everyday to work 65 - 75 mph and have to drive either in the right or left lane in case my car stalls. I was lucky that when my call stalled while trying to pull away from a red light I was not rear ended. I am hopeful you will see the sense of urgency and push Dodge to do a recall. I do not think this should be the consumers espense. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving along freeway at 55 mph throttle light illuminated and engine was non reactive to gas pedal. After a few moment systems went away, but the starting the next day after that the engine was slow to respond to sccelerator and would hesitate and jump to accelerations. Vehicle was taken to shop where throttle body and fuel system was cleaned. It worked fine till April 22, 2013 when vehicle was being driven the throttle light came back on and there was no acceleration at all to the car. Car towed to garage where the throttle body had to be replaced to due failure. The milage was 130,153 and cost over $800.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. The electronic throttle control warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000. The VIN was not available.
I have had multiple problems with my throttle body and losing power in my car. All my attempts to fix it have failed. Now my car will only get up to about ten mph. With the lighting bolt flashing on my dash board. I have talked to mechanics at a Dodge dealership and the say they haven't heard of this problem and that is a flat out lie. They just keep trying to fix this and that and it does not work. This part needs to be recalled before someone is killed and Dodge trying to cover up what hundreds have complained about is not fair to us as consumers spending hundreds of dollars out of pocket and there is only temporary fixes.
Leaving home to go to work, started car and noticed lightning bolt indicator light on. Shut car off and restarted - light not there. Put car in gear and noticed shaking and low idling. Attempted to accelerate and was only able to reach a speed of 15 mph. Pulled to side of road and shut car off. Restarted - no light but still not acceleration past 15mph and car still idling slowly and shaking. Pulled back into driveway and left it there. With all the other similar complaints something needs to be done about this.
While driving my car, the electronic throttle control light came on and the car lost power and would not accelerate. I have researched this problem and it seems that it is a common occurrence. Please recall now for safety reasons!.

The failure recurred three times over a period of eighteen months. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Updated 03/31/lj the consumer stated on 3/9/14, while driving, the etc light illuminated again. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle into a turning lane with less traffic. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that they were unable to find a failure. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic and the alternator was replaced. Two weeks later, the failure recurred and the contact remained on the side of the highway for three hours, at which time she was able to successfully start the vehicle. A week later, the failure recurred again. In each instance the vehicle would start and have power, but would not accelerate. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 91,631 and the current mileage was 93,046.
While pulling out from a stoplight and accelerating up a grade, my 2008 Dodge Avenger made a loud popping noise and began to sputter and lose power. The car would not go over 10 mph and a lighting bolt symbol appeared on my dash display. I drifted the car to the side of the road and could not move. After letting it sit and turning the car off and on, the lighting bolt image on my dash disappeared and the car could be driven. Since then, the car sporadically stutters for no apparent reason and I then pull off the gas fearing a repeat of the above incident.
Motor mounts failed and this is the second time it has happened. Dealer replaced front mount and said there was a change in the mounts due to problems but did not change the back mount, now the back mount has failed. I think that if Dodge had to make a change in design of the mount due to problems they should have had to change both mounts when they changed the front one. This is just so they don't have to spend any more money on a car than they have to.
Car stalls on highway around 50 mph will not speed up. Needs to be pulled over to regain speed. Large semi truck had to brake to avoid hitting vehicle on highway. Changed many parts and now will not go over 50 and shift out of second. Spent about $300 on parts alone and friends shop help with problems. Still not fixed. May need to park it before my family dies in it.
Driving on the freeway and my 2008 Dodge Avenger suddenly loses power and begins to idle and run rough. The red electric bolt sign came on and was flashing. Car continued to run funny not having normal power and unable to accelerate. When I turned the car off and then back on it reset. ?.

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Avenger awd. The contact stated that the engine rpms would increase to three to four thousand, causing the vehicle to lunge forward abnormally. Interlock spring broke and locked my vehicle into the park position.
2008 Dodge Avenger will not shift out of park.
Sept. 12,2010- I got in my car to run errands and my car would not get out of park. I own a 2008 Dodge Avenger, never had any problems with the gear shift till today.
I own a 2008 Dodge Avenger, bought it brand new a couple years ago. I go get in my car today to get my son's prescriptions and pick up my kids when I find my gear shift locked in 'park'. Now I will have to pay for a tow plus repairs for something that should have been a recall!!! bad business Dodge!!! I will never own another Dodge.
I got into my Dodge Avenger(2008) and I couldn't put it in gear. The shifter will not move.
I have a Dodge Avenger, 2008. Couldn't get it out of park this morning as I was rushing to take my daughter to the hospital. Seems the manufacturer put a hidden' little pink plastic piece described as a safety feature in the console. This little pink plastic piece somehow broke (just cant understand how plastic could break). From what im reading this isn't uncommon. Wonder how they're gonna feel when there's a lawsuit?.
My 2008 Dodge Avenger se will not shift out of park. . . . . While doing some research I found that over 50 customers are having the same problem with there Dodge Avenger however there does not seem to be a recall yet!!!!!!!! by providing this information I hope something can be done about this major problem.
Faulty gear shift mechanism caused gear shift selector to stick in park. Happened suddenly, without warning. Had to have car towed to dealership for repair. Gear selector mechanism was replaced at a cost of $342. 00. Apparently a known issue which has happened to thousands of 2008 and 2009 Dodge Avenger owners. Not covered under extended warranty. Recall needed.
I bought a used 2008 Dodge Avenger on 6/22/2010, on 8/18/2010 I was leaving work started my car and could not get it out of "park". This happened without any warning as I had driven the car 3 hours earlier with no problems at all. Called the Dodge dealership the next day and was told this was a common problem but not a recall and would cost over $300 to repair. This was all very confusing too me, wish I knew what was looked at or the criteria to consider this a recall. I would think Dodge would be able to pull a report of how many "shift assemblies" has been repaired. It appears from the website I have found a lot of Dodge customers have experience this unforeseen debacle when trying to drive off.
I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger that a spring attached to the shifter broke on last night. It makes it so you cannot put the car into gear. There are people all over the internet with the same problem and my dealership said they are fixing 2 a day and it costs $400 for us to fix it! if there are that many people having problems they need to recall it, my car is only a couple years old, this is ridiculous!.
2008 Dodge Avenger sxt will not shift out of park. Brake switch activates but gear shifter will not move past park safety stop.
I was trying to start my 2008 Dodge Avenger when I was unable to release it from park. The car starts properly, but the shift gear does not move. This is due to the cheap plastic that Dodge has used as a lever to release a spring that releases the shift. The cheap plastic has broken!!! unacceptable. My Dodge has 50,000 miles on it.
I went to get in my car about a week and half ago, to go to work, and I started it and went to put it in drive, and could not shift it out of park. I let off the brake, and then back on, and then retried, but still nothing. So I turned it off and waited a few minutes, and then retried, but still could not get it out of park. So I went and woke my husband up and he tried and we were still unable to get it out of park. We called the dealership and they said they have replace numerous shifters in vehicles just like mine in the past year, and it was going to be around $400. 00! we have tried to take the up holder out of the console and find the release button that the manual talks about, but it is not working either! my car is still sitting in park in the driveway!.
No warning, the gear shift in my 2008 Dodge Avenger was stuck in park. The Dodge dealership say this is going to cost $400. 00. I investigated on line and several thousand people are also dealing with the same issue.
The first one was on August 7th 2010 the car slid and I hit an embankment the brakes did not work we were pretty shook up I messed up the right front tire with the crash the second incident happened on August 13 2010 the cars gear will not shift it is stuck we are trying to fix by looking at the internet it seems this is a common problem because Chrysler used a plastic part for the gear shift spring this is crazy I am still paying off my car please help!.
A spring on the shifter assembly broke/melted and now the whole shifter assembly has to be replaced .
Defective shift assembly, locks the car into park and cannot shift at all. Can't drive the car. Has to be towed to dealer and pay to fix a defective part that apparently, many 2008 Dodge Avenger owners have had problems with. The dealer is saying that since our warranty "just" ran out it will be at least $350 to fix. I understand that the part cost . 75 cents. What our are rights!!!!!.

Drove my car to work without any problems. It sat in the parking lot all day (10am - 5pm) then when I went to leave the car wouldn't shift out of park.
I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger r/t and yesterday I went out to my car to leave work and it would not come out of park. I googled the issue and found out that others, just like I, have had a piece in the shifter assembly break. Unfortunately my warranty ended 3 months ago and I had to pay for this part out of pocket. The part I am replacing the broken part with is going to be exactly the same. I am certain I will have to replace this part again within a few years, if not sooner. This is a manufacturing defect and should not have to be fixed at the owners expense. Nor should my family or the many others have to settle with sub par parts because daimler Chrysler wants to save a couple of bucks by assembling cheap parts. My car is currently sitting in my driveway waiting to be repaired. Thankfully I have a second vehicle and am able to get to work, however my wife and daughter must sit at home until I am home for work due to this issue. I really hope a recall happens soon.
