While driving on the freeway, an object hit under the vehicle and punctured a hole in the plastic, unprotected fuel tank causing a leak. Fortunately it only caused a leak and did not result in a fire. I was surprised to find out that the fuel tank was plastic and did not have any protection from road hazards to prevent punctures, especially when it is so close to the ground.
