Three problems related to front air bag sensor control have been reported for the 2012 Dodge Avenger. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2012 Dodge Avenger based on all problems reported for the 2012 Avenger.
The vehicles may experience loss of air bag and seat belt pretensioner deployment capability in certain crash events due to a shorting condition resulting in a negative voltage transient that travels to the occupant restraint controller via the front impact sensor wires. The occupant restraint controller (orc) may cause an illuminated airbag warning lamp due to an internal failure in the orc which may result in the inability to deploy active headrests (ahr) during certain rear-end crashes. I purchased this car 02/2017.
Summary: the vehicles may experience loss of air bag and seat belt pretensioner deployment capability in certain crash events due to a shorting condition resulting in a negative voltage transient that travels to the occupant restraint controller via the front impact sensor wires. Safety risk: the potential loss of air bag and seat belt pretensioner deployment capability in such crash events may increase the risk of injury in a crash.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that the air bag warning light continuously illuminated in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that the occupant restraint control module was not communicating with the vehicle and needed to be replaced. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 13v282000(air bags , electrical system )however the dealer stated that they would only flash the totally integrated power module(tipm) per the recall.
