The tips is shorting out. Going to cost 2200 to fix. This is a recall in other vehicles around the same year. Why does it not apply to the Caliber. Seems to be an issue. Looked into several forums with same issue that keeps popping up.

I have had this problem since the beginning of ownership. The car won't start, I have had so many batteries thinking this was the problem. The car won't start even with a new battery or the battery will have to be replaced within months. I plan to go somewhere and can't because it won't start. . . Like right now. I haven't been able to start it in days. Sometimes by wiggling the wires I can start it but now it is so bad it won't start.
While driving my car speed lowered and the trans temp light and esp light and traction control and etb module light came car won't go over 40 and remains in limp mode even after taking it to the shop.

Started vehicle which had been running perfectly fine, just got a oil change a few days prior. Started driving and the car starts sputtering like it was going to die. The etc symbol started to flash and car would only go 5-10 mph when this happened I was already driving at 40mph when the car just started to slow down to the 5 miles and sputter.
When I start my car, it starts just fine and then about 1-2 minutes later the engine check sign will come on followed by a red lighting bold on the dashboard. Once the red lightning bolt comes on either parked or driving in a city street or highway, the car immediately starts making loud noises, shakes uncontrollably and speed reduces, sometimes to the point where it shuts off while I'm still driving on the highway or city street. It sort of starts forcing itself to move while in motion. While the light is still on, if I stop at a red light or stop sign and it's time for me to go or the light is green, when I push the gas paddle the car sort of tries to move with pushes, just as though someone was pushing it while parked and then all of a sudden moves with speed. To resolve it, I have to stop on the side and turn the car off occasionally , wait about 5 minutes and then start it for the car to drive normally once again until the red lightning bolt comes on again. The light comes on whether parked or in motion. At times I'd still be driving the car and when the lightning sign comes on, the car shuts off while still on drive in the middle of traffic. I've taken it to Dodge and other mechanics but nobody is able to fix it. It's really unsafe on the road with the sudden stops, pushes and shutting off.

Got it from the dealership engine light came on right after I drove off and it's going to be 100 dollars to have them even look at it the parts.
Takata recall on hwy 59 4 miles south of fairfax mo a deer ran across hwy and my vehicle split the deer in half and my side airbags did not deploy also my knees were injured and cut from the bottom air bag but no airbag ever hit my upper body. Also a code for fault wor bag deploy was always on with my car.
Front sub frame completely rusted and split in half. Causing steering issue, shaking and loud clunking from drivers side and uneven tire wear. Also. . . . Having issue with etc, electronic throttle control kicks into limp mode often while driving. Causing near accidents while on hwy or pulling into traffic. This car is now unsafe for my family. Dealership has been uncooperative because no recalls are listed. Looked on several blogs plus this site. . . . Several complaints about the exact same issues. Very surprised and dissatisfied that more is not being done to fix known issues.
The recall u have that u say has not effected mine has. I've already put a new engine in the car and a gas tank, all the lines and now the car is still shutting off/down on its own. The recall is exactly wat the mechanic says needs done and he doesn't have the equipment to do the repair. No advanced read out machinery to change or reprogram. I need this recall on mine. There's no way u got every one that was recalled. Like I said jeff bradley is the mechanic that's fine all the work the new motor the gas tank and lines, and now it's still shutting down. There is no dash lights that cone n at all.

I was sitting at a stop sign when my abs and engine light started flashing and this annoying dinging started I made a left turn and my tires would be out of control making me think I was having a steering problem ,just parking would be a problem and this annoying sound would stay on until u park the car this was done on a highway I was told by a Dodge dealership that it was my abs module and that it needed to be replaced so I check for a recall and find out there are recalls for the same make model and year on a lot of other cars but not my VIN#.
When the car is I'm motion or standing the vehicles engine begins to race the engine light as well as charging light comes on and the cars speed drops below 25mph and if headlamps if being used the flicker off and on . The oil was recently change but the change oil light comes on repeatedly. . Headlamps that were replaced blew in 2 months . The car repeatedly need to be jumped eventhough nothing was left running or on in the vehicle. .
Dash warning lights all come on, interior light comes on when using right turn signal, loses power only up to 40mph , sometimes won't start, odometer gauge flapping around, which are current problems, have replaced suspension three times, and replaced computer! will never purchase a Dodge again!.
For the second time this year, I have lost all headlights, air conditioning, engine dying randomly while driving, safety lights flashing and beeping on dashboard. The tipm module is going out again. This part is nearly $1,000 and only a Dodge dealership is able to fix this issue. There are issues worldwide with this same part in multiple Dodge cars since 2007 and nothing has been done to fix this issue.
I have reported this before and nothing has been done I have a have a 2008 Dodge Caliber and have had to change the electrical throttle this is very serious fir my car have turned off in the middle of driving in traffic this part needed to be recalled before I all some one else get kills or get badly hurt I have had to replace this part 3 times and I'm very tired of this please find out why this part goes bad so fast on these cars I have ready plenty of stories about this part going out on these Dodge Calibers and still no recalls do something before some one gets hurts and please look into this matter because its serious when you're driving the car shuts off in traffic and I'm sure I'm not the only one that have brought this to y'all attention do something before its to late and this is my second Dodge Caliber and having the same issue with the electric throttle and my car was in motion it happened all 3 times.
My car suddenly decelerates to 2mph when etc light comes on. It happens about 5 times a day and I have to immediately pull over and restart my car. This is incredibly dangerous and I cannot even drive on the highway.
On my 2011 Dodge Caliber, I was driving to work as usual, then all of a sudden my vehicle started to flash a bunch of lights. Then shut off. My rpm went up and then down. I was able to pull over for safely this time. But it happened several times after I've gotten into an accident because of it. My 2011 Dodge Caliber has sat in the middle of the road for several minutes to several hours. Sometime I can start it back up in just a few minutes and sometimes it takes hours. Had to get it towed a few times because of it. Missed several days of work and when I do get rides I'm always late. On the edge of getting fired because I not reliable anymore since I cant control when I get there. Got it towed to a dealership the brain wasnt working for awhile once the brain connected to there computer he,fixed what they was wrong wires and cleaned up the engine. It started so he assumed it was fixed. But I didnt even have it for more then a day and it started doing the same thing. But this time lightning bolt came on. Did research found out it was etc electric throttle control system. Also just looking it up there has been several complaints from various sights about the same thing. I've seen about 1000 plus complains. This defiantly is an issue for this make and model and year. Recall should be in order. Already put in a lot of money into it for the issue not even being fixed. I'm not sure why there isn't a recall yet. Not safe to drive for that matter my research has said not to drive at all strongly recommend it being towed to a shop. Very dangerous for you and other drivers. Since found out the problem car hasnt been just sitting in driveway. Highly recommend investigation and a recall to come out sooner then later.
2012 Dodge Caliber been having problems with the throttle control, car will not drive, it jerks it you try to change gears. This has been a problem for these cars for years, and it seems the company will not look into it, not only 2012 models but later models too. This is an expensive job, and the consumer has to pay the price.
Takata recall 4 different times this problem occurred! driving on highway car decelerates on its own with no warning. Could be fatal pulling onto highway! instantly lose rpms car goes into "limp mode" does not accelerate over 20mph or 2,000 rpm lights on dash lightening bolt, traction light, engine light. Had the throttle body replaced 3 times this would be the 4th time as my car still sits unfixed!! Dodge replaced the throttle body with a non factory one thinking that may have been issue. Now that my warranty is up no-one will do anything for me including aubrey alexander located in shamokin dam, PA. No-one stands by the vehicles they sell anymore. Its a shame I'm a single mother of 2 children, and work hard for everything I have, and I don't have money to continue to throw away to fix the same exact problem multiple times. This is so not fair. I will be contacting wnep & action news if this problem is not resolved for me. I lost a job and had to take leave from college due to unreliable transportation. Funny the very first thing I asked for when I walked in the dealership 5 years ago was a reliable vehicle I didn't even care what it looked like. Such a shame that Dodge themselves wouldn't, and couldn't fix the issue.
My car horn, lights, power windows will not work and the car will not start the car stopped without warning and my lights when off. Now the car does not turn on at all after getting a tow truck to my mechanic he stated that my power train module needed to be re program but he could not do it so I had to get another tow truck to take the car to the dealer which told me I have to replace my tipm @ $1700. Plus tax. Too expensive this s/b cover by Dodge this was scary for my car to stopped while I was driving I could have kill myself and someone else I already paid over $200. In tow trucks.
My front head lights are not working it has to to do with the fuse box that is locate under the the bumper ,that it get wet and the snow and salt through the years . I have to drive my car doing the day only . The fuse box is corroded it .
I have had issues with this vehicle such as the O2 sensors that has to be repaired every year. The safety issues with this vehicle if you are at stop sign or just idle in traffic- the engine light will begin to blink and the car begins to move back and forth. . Also, it constantly over heats after much repairs- these symptoms continue to persist-the gentleman at good year told me that some of your parts O2 sensor was recalled- failed to get assistance from Chrysler- the overheating is annoying- I can not drive over 45 miles without over heating. I had to pull over at the exit while other cars- with incoming traffic was coming very fast and the car is in motion on the highway with other drivers- because the car begins to pull - I have to pull over so that the engine can cool down- . . Sometimes in traffic- the abs light will come on and begin to shift gears in traffic- this happens occasionally. The safety issues are engine overheats, start jerking back and forth at stop signs or just being idle in traffic, occasionally just shift acceleration in the middle of traffic. Th most recent incident was last night- I had to pull over- car started jerking- it overheated- 07-19-2017 I am filing another complaint- called Chrysler said that I had to pay for the diagnostic testing on something that is their manufacturer fault.
The front end makes all kinds of noises. Locks dont work cant open trunk. Head lights work when they want to.
"takata recall" when I drive the vehicle for about 30 to 45 mins on high way the transmission heating light will appear and causes the car to go into limp mold until trans is cooled down it will not go over 60 mph when this happend took it to dealer and they tell me this is something that Dodge Caliber does.
"takata recall"my wife and I purchased a vehicle and we thought we got a good deal until the car quickly became a death trap that was so unsafe to drive. The steering would pull too the left and when we went around a bridge on the freeway or any turning of the wheel. We had to stabilize the car because it would almost hop to the left and there would be a lot of traffic regardless on freeway or streets. We told them there was a lapse in the speed and this has just been a nightmare. We already paid almost all the car and we still have our warranty but they want us to pay 400 dollars, what we pay as a car pymt every month. Or they said they'd finance the work they do on the car through car finance department. My wife said absolutely not. We have kids and instead of enjoying time in the car, we've spent stressed paying for it since the first week. We've been to the point of so much fear to feeling as though it's an icy day and the roads are wet and so slippery but the problem is. . . It wasn't even raining or snowing. . Fear of crashing or something breaking. My wife read a lot about the same thing happening with our vehicle. She saw too many people, iust like us and it said recalled, but it said things that have been reported that should be recalled but hasn't been at that time. I'm reporting this because we aren't going to pay to die in a car the mechanic didn't even want to drive far because it wasn't safe!! the mechanic from the same dealership we purchased the carfrom.
My oils and fluid levels were fine. I have about 74,000 on my vehicle, and just had a recent oil change about 300 miles or so ago. While driving around 35 mph on a local street, my vehicle''s check engine light and abs light came on. The steering went out and I immediately lost the ability to steer or maintain speed. I coasted my vehicle into a wendy's. I immediately restarted my car, and made it into the parking lot before losing the ability to steer and manage my speed, again. I managed to get it the 2 miles or so home. I got it towed, and I am waiting to hear from the dealership.
We purchased vechicle 2012. Have had numberous fuses blown; front blinkers and lights rear blinkers and brake lights also the plug in where ciggerate lighter. Another issue is with car randomly not starting. Turning over for 5-10 secs. I have had to replace altanator twice, newer battery and starter. At one point it did work. The cd player and controls panel goes black when inserting cd it flickers and goes black. . Temperature gage above steering wheel lights constantly flickers. . Last issue is with door locks not unlocking its a menace. . Needless to say its been nothing but a headache. . Recently recieved recall notice in mail.
Four four months now my car has intermittently experienced electrical failures including stuttering, dashboard lights flashing on and off, windshield wipers coming on their own and total shutdown all while the car is in motion at varying speeds. I have had my alternator replaced twice, my battery replaced and my spark plugs changed out. I have researched and am fairly certain it is my tipm which is a common problem for my make and model of car that Dodge has decided isn't worth their time to fix. I have almost crashed multiple times due to the random failure of my tipm and thusly find it unsafe to drive my vehicle anymore.
I was driving on the highway between 50-60 mph and my car suddenly lost power. 2 warning lights came on the dash and I pressed the gas pedal to the floor and still my car would not accelerate. The air conditioning stopped working and again I could not increase my speed. I pulled over and put on my emergency flashers. Reviewed my manual and was able to read about the warning signs. I turned off my car and started it back up and I was able to make it home safely. Very scary drive! I had my 2 grandchildren in the car too. I have now read about many instances of this happening. I may try my dealer but I don't know if I will keep this car.
My car will as I'm driving cut off lose all power starts shaking jerking and won't above 5to7 miles an hour happens all time driving with my kids from school it does on freeway very unsafe almost got rear-ended a couple times very scary.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caliber. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle shook and an unknown warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 62,000.
My car is well maintained. I have it serviced every 3000 miles and have the records to prove it. I had the rusted frame replaced this passed August after my mechanic noticed the corroded frame. I have had almost all of the other problems listed and replaced on my car. I started hearing an odd noise while driving on the highway, and took the car in to my mechanic who replaced a pulley. The car continued to make the noise all the time while driving and I brought it back in for servicing. My mechanic could find nothing wrong. He told me to just drive it til something happened. The electronic throttle control light came on one night driving home on the highway from grocery shopping. The light came on flashing, the car started bucking, the car would not accelerate. I was able to pull the car off the road and had it towed to my mechanic. My mechanic put in a new alternator at a cost of $650. A week later my husband drove 6 miles and the light came on. He came back home and called our mechanic. He advised to let the car stall out and it would record on the log. Next day same thing, I let it stall out. Took car in. He cannot find anything wrong. Says it will be $500 at the Dodge dealer just for the etc part. This is a known documented defect with the electrical system. Why is Dodge not accountable for this problem? why hasn't there been a recall? why isn't anyone concerned about all of the safety issues with this defective Dodge Caliber? this car is a huge safety risk to all drivers on the road. Please do something before someone gets killed.
Totally integrated power module problems. Having all kinds of cascading electrical problems with this car with only 70k miles. Driver's side low beam will no longer work. Engine intermittently stops/starts. Acceleration issues, etc. Chrysler wants over a $1,000. 00 to address this issue, and the replacement tipm would likely fail in similar manner shortly thereafter. Extremely unsafe car day or night.
Car shaking while driving engine light on and dash lights keep flashing.
