36 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

Intermittent recurring electrical outage while driving. All chimes will sound and all dash lights will come on. The power is lost, a dash lights flash and turn off and we loose the instruments (speedometer, rpm, etc. . . . ). Experience lose of power can barely get it pulled over safely. Air bag light comes on and seat belt does not lock. Dealership can not repair even with having it for 42 days time before last. Have only been able to drive 334 miles since dealership delivered car to me when they drove 170 miles and could not get it to reoccur in August 2015. I'm afraid to even drive it to dealership. Total miles put on car since purchase June 2013 is 11394. Current mileage 38234.

37 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

I had an accident on Friday, January 18, 2015. The car in front of me put on breaks, and I was a distance away from the car in front of me when I put on breaks as well. However, when I attempted to break, it would not break normally as a car should. Also, there was no anti-lock break that kicked in. In addition, the airbags did not deploy in this vehicle. My car is totaled. Thankfully, I was able to walk away. There is something wrong with the breaks on this vehicle. I always felt like that. However, the experience that I had with this accident was confirmation for me.

40 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 04/29/2014

2 months ago I was dropping my son off at school and I went to turn on the main road when my car started bucking and then I noticed a light with a lighting bolt flash and I turned back around and went home and read my manual and it told me if the light doesn't stay on it's drivable lately it's been bucking more then ever and so I went online and found out that there are hundreds of Caliber owners with this same problem and my car has less then 60,000 miles on it. It shouldn't be having problems like this already. I still drive the car but it is not a safe feeling with kids in the back seat.

41 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 04/28/2014

For three sudden engine failures: 1) approximately April 16, 2014 noticed some of the dashboard warning lights blinked a little. Stopped at a traffic light it turned green stepped on the gas, the car jumped and stalled in traffic. Was able to restart the car and go about a 100 yards into a side street. Was met by local police. Got tow truck and had it towed to the local Chrysler dealer. After the car was repaired drove out of the dealer but noticed that a dashboard warning light was on. 2) approximately may 2, 2014 the dashboard warning lights blinked again but the car kept running. Drove to my destination. When I returned to my car, turned on the ignition key it would not start again not even to crank the motor. Got tow truck and towed it back to the Chrysler dealer. After the car was repaired, the warning lights were double checked, then drove out of the dealer. 3) approximately may 20, 2014 was going down hill hit a small bump causing dashboard warning lights to go on the car stalled, rolled the rest of the way down hill and pushed it into my driveway. I tried myself to fix it. Pulled off the main fuze cover and pulled out some fuzes this brought back some power to restart the car. The fuzes were apparently to the air bags but gave enough power to make the engine run. Made an appointment with an electrical repair specialist. Drove it to there lot. Was asked detailed questions on how I got there. The car was repaired but with problems, the electrical system is not protected in the front of the car and was advised to get a splash guard. But went to the Chrysler dealer parts department. Found that it wouldn't do much good and none exist to completely protect it. The car runs fine now but hazardous. I believe I shouldn't be paying repair bills for this fault.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

Drove home from work parked my car next morning it wouldn't start. Had battery power and cranked when I turned the key but would not kick over to start. Towed to mechanic. He said there wasn't anything wrong with it, he cleaned the spark plugs, weather warmed up and car worked again. This happened twice, he stated I needed to take it to Dodge dealership to have the computer reprogrammed (that this was a common problem for my car type) two days later, driving to work all the lights went on and the steering froze, not able to turn left or right. I was able to exit and park car without incident now having it towed to delearship .

43 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 03/27/2014

I bought my 2007 Dodge Caliber awd in may of 2012. After I had my daughter in March 2014, I realized that my car was going crazy! she was in the nicu and I had to go see her as often as I could, which these problems prolonged her stay. When I started the car, sometimes it wouldn't start. . . . Bought a new battery, so that wasn't it. . . Then my hazards, gauges (except gas gauge) and a bunch of lights all flashed and it dinged at the same time. I havent been able to get a tow to the dealership, get to doctor appointments ( I am disabled) or get my daughter to her appointments. This has been a huge burden on me and my family, and I wish I never bought this car, and I will never buy from them again. Ever.

44 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

I was on my way to work and getting onto a freeway entrance, when right when I was merging, my car completely lost throttle control and bogged down. It was very foggy outside and a semi truck almost ran into the back of my car. I was able to get off the freeway and home with my car in what is known as limp mode. There was no check engine light, only a red lightning bolt light, and my esp (traction control) was on also. Upon doing some research I have found that the electronic throttle body goes out in these cars quite a bit. No body in my city had one and luckily I was able to source one from another state. Everyone that was out said they were on back order. This further confirmed my thoughts that this is a common problem along with reading about 10 other cases and a car forum where this has happened to many member there also. I understand things wear down and break and need to be replaced, but with my car only having 70,000 miles on it I find it a little ridiculous, and on that forum there are some where their throttle bodies have gone out at 30,000 miles. I'm just surprised that no body has been seriously injured or killed in accident because of this issue. One particular member on the forum I read he stated that the car had completely died on him in the middle of a busy intersection. I have a 4 year old son and it just bugs me to think that what if I had him in the car and that semi wasn't able to move out of the way in time? all I'm asking is that Dodge either makes a better quality throttle body and puts out a recall or at least replaces the throttle body under the recall for free. I have wrote to Dodges customer complaint department, but have not heard anything back so I figured maybe I would try here and see if anything can be done.

45 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

This is the third time in less than a year I am having trouble with this. I look this up online and a lot. Hundreds of people are having this problem. My etc (electronic throttle control light) comes on. My car loses power and sometime stop running in the middle of the highway. I have the pcm replace in the car that cost about $600 and I am having the same problem again. Losing power in a vehicle is very dangerous. I started having the same problem in my 2011 Dodge caravan the dealer saying the cylinders are misfiring. Something needs to done about this.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

My car started making a noise and idling high last year. It started cutting itself off and eventually it wouldn't start. I replaced the alternator and battery. Now less than a year later 2014, the low lights don't work and it is starting to make the same noise and cut itself off. Now I'm being told its the total integrated power module.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

The car would fail to start using remote starter on occasion then progressed to starting w/remote start but when the key inserted the car would shut down. Progressed with extra problems such as not having power when it did stay running. Would only go 10 mph, sputtering, with electronic throttle control coming on. I turned car off and tried again and ran for awhile and regained speed and w/out missing/sputtering. Appear random and continued to work and in heavy traffic car begins to rapid decent in speed (50 mph to quick drop to 10 mph) with etc light on. With drop down in speed/momentum and not because of breaking the reason that left no indication to the person(s) behind me to have a warning. I put emergency flashers on and got to a safer place. Turned car off/on, repeated sometimes w/remote was the only way to start car but many times placing the key in the ignition actually shut the car down. Improved at times but with no warning the car would go into to rapid decrease in speed and even try to stall at times, especially if it was combined with braking at stop signs/signals/traffic. The dealership only focused on the electronic throttle control and said it was completely out. The actual day I left it at dealership it was running fine that particular morning. I have had it back 1 day but I am very concerned with a repeat history of this due to no real warning because the light appears as you are already shutting down/slowing down. By the time the light comes on someone behind me could already have hit me and I usually travel interstate and this is scary. The car also wanted increase on a couple of moments but this was not as much as the reverse. Car is just over a couple of years old & I have also just replaced the driver door mechanism for the window operation (dropped when it broke). Vent system repaired.

48 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 11/19/2012

Tipm-, battery terminals/holds downs, tbody. I found these issues and went to the dealer in relation to these problems after I had done my investigation. They saw me with the information I had, and began to run in the other direction. I told them what was wrong with the vehicle. I just had surgery and was inhaling the carbon from the vehicle. This is a major electrical issue and cad light problem. The vehicle only goes 20 mph. Chrysler released this vehicle to its customers for loan or purchase with a faulty design in place. Chrysler knew of this and proceeded to sale this vehicle in an order to make money and not looking at the risk that we as customers would be taking as well as them. Chrysler didn't even bother to have a recall for this issue. I as a consumer feel cheated and want to be compensated for my loss. The vehicle is not in drive mode and I am not risking the life my son and I for this major mistake on their part.

49 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

Ow beam headlight on passenger side will not turn on but the high beam works fine. Have checked wiring and fuses and it seems to be the tipm. Took into a shop and they said that it is the tipm telling the light not to turn on so in other words its a bad tipm. I was made aware that the part would be close to $1200. I've researched this issue online and I see that it is a very common issue. I am now starting to have issues with what I think is a bearing gone bad, still trying to determine this. Today as I was almost home, my charge system light came on. When I got home, so turned car off and let it sit a few minutes, turned the car back and no issues. The 2007 Dodge Caliber seems t0 have issues. I wrote to Dodge about the headlamp issues with no resolution or that they adknowledge there is an issue. From reading the forums today, it seems my lights or issues may get worse and possibly loose my life or cause a horrible wreck before all of this over. Dodge needs to take the responsiblity for all of these issues and recall them so we are not out the huge sums 0f money that is required to fix this. I am currently unemployed and no unemployment compensation as of yet, I am afraid my once reliable car will just quit on me one day when I least expect or cause lose of life.

50 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

I bought my 2009 Dodge Caliber brand new in July 2009. I made my decision based on the 5-yr powertrain warranty, assuming the car must be mechanically dependable. Well needless to say, I was wrong for making that assumption. I began to have serious mechanical problems within the first 2 years of owning the car. I replaced the battery 3 times, had a tune-up at 65,000 miles and replaced the alternator twice after the dealership informed me that my warranty would not cover any repairs since the car had over 36,000 miles on the engine and that I would have to pay $100. 00 for a diagnostic check to see if the powertrain warranty would cover a repair for my car to run. Since this car was my only transportation to and from work and living paycheck to paycheck, I had no choice but to attempt repairs with the battery and alternator replacements just to make it to work and be able to pay my mortgage and car note. Those repairs seem to work at first until 2 weeks after the second alternator replacement, when I was driving home from work on the interstate when my car suddenly lost power and I managed to make my way to the shoulder. It was turning dark and my hazard lights were no longer visible due to the battery being drained. I was on side of the interstate in dark freezing weather for at least an hour before a CO-worker could find me to help me to safety. I returned the car to the finance company.

51 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 12/07/2010

I am not sure if this is the correct catagory as far as the elec. Sability control the mananul refers to it as the electronic throttle control when the light comes on. I have noticed that there is a recall for 2007 Dodge Calibers with this problem, but for some reason my VIN/vehicle is not included in the recall as well as many many others with the same problem. I am thinking they do not know who to notify because if they did you would have several complaint at this time. My 2007 Dodge Caliber has caused me problems and unsafe moments for sometime now. The vehicle will sometimes start with the electronic throttle control light on right off the bat other times you could be cruising over a bridge and it will come on and decide to go 2 mph if even that. I had an incident with my grandbaby where we were turning left across a lane of traffic and the car decided to go 1-2 mph it was a good thing that the on coming traffic was out there far enough for us to get across. I have not and will not drive the car since. I still have a car payment and insuranse payment but cannot use the vehicle. I have been keeping up with the people on line and there is quiet a few that has had several scary situation like myself. There has been ones who have taken the vehicle in and the repair shop said there was nothing wrong. . . . . . . Then back out on the road they go and the problem happens again. One of these times someone will be crossing a very busy highway and could get in a bad wreck and die? we need your help????.

52 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Dodge Caliber

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

I own a 2007 Dodge Caliber r/t witch I purchased new. After the first 4 months of owning this vehicle. I noticed that every bump I hit, the car would sway back and forth on the road and noticed the stability was not good at all, even though I have the stability system program feature. I proceeded to take it in to the dealer and have it looked at. They assured me that it was fine. I just needed tires. I replaced all 4 tires and still had the same problem. So I brought the car in again and they then replaced the sway bar links and struts. I still have the same problem so I brought it in again and the dealer said it was fine. It is not fine! it is very dangerous and hard to control on a road that is not perfectly paved especially in rainy weather and winter months this vehicle has very bad traction and could cause an accident if unable to control, which I am trying to prevent from happening. I have spoken to other Dodge Caliber owners and they seem to have the same problem. Now I'm experiencing water running into my car every time I turn on the ac or heat and hot water running on my foot while driving whenever I turn a corner. I would greatly appreciate if this matter is investigated and resolved. Thank you.
