Speed Control Linkage problems of the 1996 Dodge Caravan

Three problems related to speed control linkage have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2000

While driving at high speeds for 65mph the throttle cable gets stuck and tangled which causes the wires to fray and break apart, resulting in sudden acceleration. Please provide further information.

2 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2000

Consumer had cruise control set at 70mph. Tapped on brakes & hit the on/off switch to disengage cruise control. Vehicle kept on accelerating. Finally vehicle stopped. Dealer service representative came out to look at vehicle & found that cruise control cable was jammed, so disconnected it to allow owner to continue trip. Consumer wrote letter to manufacturer.

3 Speed Control Linkage problem

Failure Date: 03/06/1997

When putting vehicle in gear and leaving gas station the engine acted as though the accelerator pedal was stuck to the floor, vehicle accelerated extremely fast and would not stop until it hit a concrete post. Vehicle is being repaired at a body shop.
