Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problems of the 1997 Dodge Caravan

Four problems related to automatic transmission gear indicator have been reported for the 1997 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 07/22/1999

Child moved shift lever without pressing on brakes. Has happened twice. Key was in ignition & vehicle was idling at time. Lever suppose to be locked until brakes are pressed to release. Taking vehicle to dealer.

2 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 06/18/1998

Transmission gears fractured in heavy traffic rendering the vehicle undrivable.

3 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 12/01/1997

Vehicle's prndl indicator goes blank and the vehicle will lose all drive while traveling, reset can only be done by stopping and restarting the vehicle.

4 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

While driving vehicle's transmission indicator gives false readings. Transmission also slips out of gear in reverse. Dealers stated wires were faulty.
