Ignition Switch problems of the 2008 Dodge Caravan

Nine problems related to ignition switch have been reported for the 2008 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition Switch problem

Ignition switche was replaced on a recall. But now this ignitin switches is not working right. Some times the van will not start. I had it check out and its the ignition switche that was replaced on my car because of the recall. What do I do now to get this replaced again. The van may shut off when driving.

2 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2015

I stopped and parked the vehicle at a store. I turned the switch off but could not remove the key. I tried several times by restarting the vehicle and shutting it down but was unable to remove the key from the ignition switch. I stopped trying for about 15 seconds and was then able to restart the vehicle. Approximately 10 minutes later I was able to start, stop and remove the key ok. I drove across the street to the post office and the same situation occurred with the same results. There have been no further incidences since. I went to the Dodge dealer and they said (essentially) "sorry charlie, it's your problem. We haven't received parts to service your recall".

3 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. The contact received notification of a manufacturer's recall for the key fob ignition switch; however, the part to do the repair was not made available. The contact stated that the part to do the repair exceeded a reasonable amount of time. The NHTSA campaign number and VIN were not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

4 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that a jump start was required in order for the vehicle to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

5 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

2008 Dodge Caravan, while driving at 65 mph, engine quit, all dash electronics went dead. Coasted to stop, put in park, restarted fine, continued to destination. Problem has occurred 2 previous times, once while turning a corner at or below 5mph, same result, and once at approx 20mph, again same result. Checked, and switched keys, tested ignition switch, wiring to battery / fuse box, all ok, with no excessive corrosion, or loose connections. Attempted to recreate problem by wiggling wiring, switch, keys, with no electrical failure.

6 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

2008 Dodge Caravan. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch issues. The consumer stated the vehicle would not shut off, when the key was removed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they installed a tipm part at a cost of $897. The dealer claimed the part would make the engine shut off. A day later, the engine would not shut off. However, when it didn't shut off, the engine blew up destroying the engine in the process. The dealer admitted the mistake, of installing the wrong part, and they stated they did not know the engine would not shut off, but they were certain that the failure, was not linked to engine blowing up. Somehow the engine, and radiator blowing up was simply a coincidence.

7 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Tl contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000. The current mileage was 75,000.

8 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the ignition key remained stuck in the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken toa dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,800.

9 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Caravan. When the vehicle was parked, the key would not release from the ignition switch until the battery was completely drained. The failure recurred on a daily basis. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 11v394000 (air bags, equipment) and 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
