12 problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 2010 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My van will cut off while driving down the road and I loose control of steering and brakes.
During cold weather vehicle will shut off while driving, usually happens within first 5-15 minutes at low speed with cold or cool engine. It happens while driving straight or turning. There is no warning, no shudder, and no engine error light. Immediate loss of power steering and power breaks. Many reports online from other owners. No issues in warmer weather. Local dealer could not replicate issue after holding vehicle for 3 consecutive days.
While driving the van, the vehicle cuts off, steering becomes difficult and the traction control light comes on. I have to restart the car in order to drive. This is very dangerous to have a car to just "shut-off" while driving. This has occurred at least 5 times within the last week. I have been driving on different cities street and once while turning into major traffic. I contacted a Chrysler dealership service department and was told this particular car was not in a recall but this has been an issue for Dodge Caravans for many years from my research.
I was walking back to my running, set in park van, as I walked through the front of my van, and back of another vehicle, I touched my van hood, and my car went forward by itself pinning me between both cars crushing my knees! it went uphill set in park while running in a driveway.
September 7, 2015, was entering interstate, car continued to accelerate with accelerator depressed, pressing on brake was minimally functional, managed to get car on offramp and to parking lot, however brakes were extremely hot and brake light was on. Turned off the ignition, and restarted car. Accelerator was still depressed so turned car off. Came back after two hours and car functioned normally. Took car to Dodge service repair, showed a code p2299, brake pedal position-accelerator position, and code c0021 brake booster performance. Mechanic cleared codes, stated that handicapped hand controls were engineered improperly and allowed both brakes and accelerator to be used at same time. Service manager stated they had never heard of a wireless throttle body control problem and that I was the first to complain. Later stated that several other hand control units they had worked on functioned improperly. It was extremely evident they were covering a stuck throttle body problem that has been seen by a number of non-Dodge authorized mechanics.
While driving at 55 mph, my van all of a sudden turned off. I lost all power steering and struggled to get the van off the road. Once I got it off the road, I was able to start the vehicle and drove about 2 miles. The vehicle died a second time as I was getting ready to turn onto the street in which I live. My speed at that time was around 20 mph. I pulled into the carwash, where I was able to start the vehicle again, and then drove home. I went aprox. 1 mile that time. We parked the van and as my husband was getting out of the driver side, he strongly smelled something electrical burning. I went over to the driver side and smelled the same smell. The very next day I left in my van around noon and within a quarter of mile my van died four times. I turned around and drove a quarter of a mile back, with the van dying three more times. I finally made it home and informed the dealership of the problem. Within 2 hours they brought me a rental. It has been exactly two weeks that I have been without my van and they are unable to fix it as of now. I can't help but believe that my van is having the exact same issues as the other recalled 2010 Dodge Caravans. I have the exact same testimonies as some of the other people that actually have a recall on their Dodge Caravan. Please help! this vehicle was just bought on 11-17-2014 thanks in advance.

While driving at 50mph the traction light came on and the van became unresponsive to the accelerator. While the van began to slow the power steering stopped working making it hard to maneuver off the road, good thing I was on a rural road. This is extremely dangerous!!!.
Driving on interstate hwy at approx 60 mph when the vehicle/engine turned off. Got to shoulder of hwy and was able to restart the vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer test drove the vehicle but was unable to duplicate the failure or locate a failure code during diagnostic testing. The dealer then advised that the vehicle was operating according to the manufacturer's specifications. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 640 and the current mileage was 10,800. Updated 10/21/11.
While driving our new Dodge grand Caravan the engine will just turn off intermittently when you come up to a stop or turning. This happened once and the dealer said they could not "recreate it" so they could not fix it. We were advised to bring it back if the problem happened again. Two days later the engine turned off while I was turning left at an intersection. This incident almost caused a serious accident and left me shaking. I drove directly to the dealer where the same story as before was dictated. They are keeping it to see if they can make it do it again. When asked if the computer never shows the problem could that mean the problem is in the computer? the dealer said "maybe".
