Six problems related to engine shut off without warning have been reported for the 2010 Dodge Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle shuts off while in motion usually within first 10 minutes of driving. We thought it was doing it because we did not warm up the engine enough in winter but now it happens is warmer weather as well. The engine just shuts off usually within . 25-2 miles from the start of the trip. There is no engine check light, and no error in log. The car has already undergone the ignition key recall repair and a 3 day diagnostic at a local Dodge dealer in schaumburg IL, without them finding anything wrong. This is very dangerous as the driver looses power steering, 2 times we almost got into an accident because the car stalled mid turn. It will stall while driving straight or turning. Usually of we let the car sit and warming up for 15-20 minutes the problem will not show up, but if we start the car and put it in drive within 1 minute it will most likely stall during the drive. While the car is still rolling straight the we can put the car in neutral and restart the vehicle and continue driving but usually we have to make a full stop in the middle of the traffic lane because the wheel is too hard to turn to pull over. There is many instances of other Dodge grand Caravans doing this.
Van engine shut off while driving at 40mph on the highway. This is not the first time the can has shut off. The van has shut off on numerous occasions, most of the time it is within a few hundred yards of the starting point. Thus time the can was warm and just quit leaving my family and I without power bakes our steering. Van was shifted to neutral while coasting at 40 mph on the highway and restarted.
My car has been having intermittent stalling/ no starting issues since 9/16/14. I have replaced the battery, spark plugs, crank shaft sensor, wyn module. I have had my mechanic look it + I have taken it into the Dodge dealer 2 times and they have not been able to figure out why it keeps stalling/ not starting. I have tried contacting the Dodge corporate office to see if they could help but so far I have not been able to speak to a representative. My car has stopped completely (losing steering/power) a lot of times, of which 2 times were on the freeway going 50 + miles w/ kids in my car. Engine shut off.
Last year while driving my van, it stalled or turned off completely while driving. My power steering everything went dead. I was able to pull into the nearest gas station and place in park and restart the engine. Since that initial incident last year, it continues to happen. The most recent I was driving in the baltimore inner harbor tunnel when it shut down. On a few occasions I was almost rear ended. It doesn't matter what speed, the vehicle just turns off in the middle of driving. The dealer keeps telling me they can't find a problem. There are numerous complaints about this and also numerous accidents reported due to this. It saddens me that my self and my children could die in an accident due to Dodge neglecting to recall these vehicles.
While driving engine shut down and I did not know it until I realized I did not have power steering or brakes, while car still rolling I restarted vehicle. I received letter notifying me on a recall regarding this problem. I brought car in for repair. July 19 I brought my car in for oil change and told dealer that after recall repair my key gets stuck in ignition and cant turn car off unless I put vehicle in drive again and restart car and again try to shut off. Dealer said they needed to check the recall and possibly replace again. They said they would inspect win module and reposition for more key support. August 15, 2012 vehicle stalled again while driving. This is getting dangerous since I have 3 toddlers in car with me at all times - the reason for purchasing a Mini van. Dealer states they know I have been there several times for same concern but found no stored or active codes. They stated it may have to do with needing a software update and updated to latest level. Oct 22,2012 brought vehicle in again for 4th time with vehicle stalling while driving. Dealer decided they would keep my vehicle and gave me a loaner to drive home. The stated they needed to duplicate in order to fix. After driving 237 miles (warranty over in 6k miles) and contacting Chrysler on how to handle problem, they re-installed the safety recall again. The dealer keeps doing the same recall over and over with no resolution to this very scary stalling problem. Now Dec, my key again did not come out of ignition unless I restarted vehicle. Don't know where to turn for further assistance with ganley Dodge.
