3 Wheel problem of the 2009 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

This is the second (tpms) tire pressure sensor that has snapped off in my hands as I was attempting to put air into a low tire. These things are dangerous as the metal fatigues without warning or visible evidence of such. Especially living in an area like mine, where road salt, moisture, ice and snow and changes in temperature occur regularly these sensors can cause a sudden deflation of a tire if they break which might lead to a catastrophic crash. Luckily for me the two times it has occurred it has happened in my driveway. However, both times it necessitated jacking my vehicle up with full loads and on uneven ground, dangerous in itself.

I am planning on contacting a lawyer I have three kids and I thank god that my children were not in the car with me. This has to be taken serious someone could really lose their life over these faulty tire stems. In the past two years my tire stem breaks up and my tire goes completely flat. 11 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

While driving one day, out of the blue my can would not go over 25 to 30 mph. It would shake violently if we went faster. We got it to the mechanic and the brakes had almost caught on fire. It ruined one tire and the brakes and calipers. The mechanic said that this should have never happened. It was extremely dangerous. I reported it to Dodge. They said it had never happened. I want to make sure that it does get reported. I feel like I should be compensated for this. They said that there was nothing they could do since it never actually caught on fire. Really?.

12 Wheel problem of the 2002 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

I purchased a 2002 Dodge Caravan van on June 9, 2014. On July 11, while in houston, texas, my vechile susrained a flat tire. I took it to firestone to repair the tire. The tire was irreparable. My spare tire had a hump in it and consequently I wasn't able to put it on the vechile. Another tire was manufactured in 2005. The other tire was manufactured in 2012 but has a gash in the tire. The three remaining tires have no tread on them. In the event that one of my tires goes out I have no spare. I purchased a new tire for 79. 00. I was told tires are not covered. I have been delayed and stranded due to ignition switch problems. Upon bringing the vechile to the dealership they refused to inspect it.

13 Wheel problem of the 2012 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

After smelling brakes during a 10 mile trip to local store I looked at rear drivers side rotor to see it glowing cherry red in the night. Extreme heat was coming from the wheel well and wheel camber appeared to be affected from excessive heat. Working on trying to get it in for a warranty check, but to me this is ridiculous for a vehicle 2 years old with 25k miles. Sounds like mechanical failure of the caliber which I could replace myself, but from what I've read online this is a repetitive issue and a huge money pit.

14 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

While driving on I-90 tpms indicator came on. Within seconds right rear tire was flat, when I looked at the whee! I saw the valve stem was gone. There was no other damage to tire.

15 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

Valve stem lock nut corrosion caused stem to fall inside tire. Caused instant flat at 65 mph. Almost lost control. Again today another stem fell inside tire. Going slower 35 mph. Both times it also destroyed tires.

16 Wheel problem of the 1999 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

Preparing to exit a parking lot, the gear shift was accidentally caught by my sleeve and pulled down to the "drive" position. The vehicle was not running, but it began to move forward. Being on somewhat of a slope, the vehicle pulled onto a busy street. I grabbed the wheel to turn the van away from traffic, but it hit and scraped against a high curb, flattening 2 tires, damaging the wheels/rims of those tires, bending a strut and other damage to the suspension (I got a repair estimate from firestone, which totaled over $1,900. 00). I didn't think it was possible for the gear shift to move without having my foot on the brake, but move it did and so did the van. Other than being frightened and shaken, we were fortunate that no physical injuries occurred. However, had I not had that split second reaction to turn the steering wheel, there would have been a very bad collision with at least two vehicles driving down the busy street. Wondering why the gear shift was able to move without the car running and without my foot on the brake, I did some research and found that Chrysler knows about this grievous omission and did not want to spend the extra $9. 00 per van to install a brake shift interlock. I'm incredulous! I intend to write to Chrysler in hopes of being reimbursed for the damages sustained to my vehicle, but first wanted to report this incident to the appropriate agency.

17 Wheel problem of the 2004 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

I had my tires rotated at costco where they were purchased in 2012. In the spring of 2013, I was going to put new brakes on the rear of my 2004 minivan, and could not get two of the lug nuts off. So I just put it off for a while. On July 30, 2013, I went out to get in my van and had a flat tire on that same wheel. I attempted to remove the tire and two of the stud bolts broke. I removed the rest of the lugnuts and took the tire to be repaired at costco. On the 31st, I took my van to an auto repair shop and told them of the problem, so I wanted them to put new brakes on and replace the wheel studs. As they were doing the repair, two more of the studs broke. This is now 4 wheel studs on the same wheel. None of the lug nuts were removable from these bolts. I thought that costco had overtightened the lug nuts. After looking online and seeing that so many people have had the same problem, I am wondering if the bolts are defective. In 50 years of driving cars and repairing a lot of them myself, I have never had a broken wheel stud. I am thankful this did not happen on the road somewhere in the middle of nowhere. If these bolts are defective, how strong are they when I am driving at a high speed on the freeway.

Failure Date: 04/18/2013

When I tried to pull my Dodge Caravan (2000) out of the parking lot after a heavy raining day, I found the power steering didn't work. I could go forward or backward, but could not turn, or could turn only very slowly (I could hear the wheel kind of making clicking sound when I tried to turn). After driving very slowly on the parking lot and tried to turn slowly several time, the steering finally got back. I googled online and found many people have the same problem, mostly with a Dodge, but also some other cars. . Read more...

I was checking the tire pressure and the valve stem broke off in my hand and all the air ran out in 10 seconds. I removed the flat tire and took it to a local dealer and they charged me 100. 00. Apparently this is a common problem for these valve stems with the internal pressure sensors and I'm worried about the other wheels doing similar possibly while driving.

28 Wheel problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

1st time: tire light illuminated. When checking the air pressure, the valve stem broke off mid way up the stem exposing the valve itself. When all was said and done it cost approximately $150. 00 to replace and program. 2nd time: checking air pressure before leaving for a long trip. I could visually see a tire was low on pressure (tire squatting), later removing the cap on the valve stem I could see a distinct what I call wear ring near where the cap, when installed, would end on the stem. As this is the area the previous stem broke, I sprayed the stem with soapy water and confirmed a slow leak from this wear ring. Had this stem replaced with a standard safe valve stem. This is a very unsafe component and should be recalled! the first occurrence took the tire about 20 seconds to go completely flat. If this were to happen at highway speeds while loaded down with a family going on vacation, this could end up with a lot of serious injuries if not fatalities. I'm having all stems replaced with the traditional style until the manufacturer recalls and provides an environmentally tested replacement. I can't believe this type of safety testing is not all ready required.
