Air Bag Problems of Dodge Challenger - part 1

Subject VIN sits in database as completed for takata airbag replacement completion during previous passenger air bag NHTSA recall; however, recent "do not drive" warnings that include this year model now state that driver side airbag has also been determined to now need replacement. Having been on the telephone for numerous telephone calls over this past week with Dodge's takata airbag team, Dodger service departments, and NHTSA to inquire about what next actions I should take with the well-advertised "do not drive" warning through a variety of media channels to include my 2014 Dodge Challenger have been frustrating at best. The ineptitude and inaction to move on this recall, reclassify vehicles as having an outstanding recall if both passenger airbags assemblies (driver- and passenger- sides) have not been replaced. A requirement for the manufacturer (in this case, Dodge) to streamline complimentary towing of the unsafe vehicle to a dealership with a service department (while also ensuring respective airbag assemblies are in repair parts inventory with technicians trained to conduct replacement maintenance correctly), and afford a complimentary temporary vehicle to use during day-to-day living until the reparations are executed to render the vehicle safe again and that vehicle is returned to the owner. The ineptitude to date by manufacturer (Dodge) and NHTSA to this juncture is unfathomable. All parties need recalibration and competency should be paramount in this safety crisis of the takata airbag debacle. Wake up . . . . Immediately, if not sooner and get it all in one sock folks! the vehicle was taken to southpoint Dodge in austin, texas under recall in March 2019 and had the passenger side airbag replaced under the recall at that time; however, the driver side airbag was not of concern when that recall was executed and the driver side airbag is still stock from the manufacturing assembly line when the vehicle first became available for sale in late 2013.

The contact leased a 2012 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with melted wiring. Additionally, the contact noticed smoke coming from underneath the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was later towed to the residence. Additionally, the contact was aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 19v018000 (air bags) and 17v435000 (electrical system); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The dealer was contacted for the recall repair, but no assistance was provided. The used car dealer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

I need to address a serious issue regarding the car I purchased in 2020 from a private vendor. Upon taking the car to crown Dodge dealership in ventura county for repair, I had to pay roughly $700 out of pocket for the service and rented a car from hertz for the days I was without my car. However, upon receiving the car back, it still had unresolved issues with the electrical components and dashboard noise. It is unacceptable that the manager at the dealership did not prioritize my safety or the quality of the car I purchased. Since this car is my sole mode of transportation, I demand a prompt resolution to this matter. I expect immediate assistance in addressing these concerns. Thank you.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned? airbag. Not sure about the available for inspection. How was your safety or safety of others put at risk? in accident airbag did not deploy and both driver and passenger were injured. Driver suffered head injuries and concussion. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? car is totaled out by insurance company. Not sure of answer to this question. Has the vehicle or component inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when they first appeared? no.

On 05/10/24 I was involved in car accident on camp creek pkwy/285 n around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. When the impact happened the airbags deployed and cut my wrist (left) and burned my left forearm.

I was rear ended while traveling eastbound on us 175 ( c f hawn fwy ). When I was hit the impact pushed me alittle ways. The other driver was going pretty fast because I was hit hard enough to where the trunk of the car was pushed into the back seat of the car. After being able to get out of the car. I noticed that the airbags didn't deploy. The seat belt did lock up but the airbags did not come out.

The contact's son owns a 2019 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and the steering wheel emblem was not illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

After I bought the vehicle later I realized the light don’t come on from my steering wheel air bag. So I took it to the dealership and they told me my air bags doesn’t work.

My airbags failed to deploy in a head on collision with a jeeps enormous tail hitch that was shaped like a hook. This is definitely something worth looking into. My safety was compromised due to the airbags not deploying and because of this fault I’m experiencing neck/shoulder pain that I feel could have been prevented with the deployment of the air bags.

Air bag failure indicator is on after other clock spring related issue (radio volume increases when steering wheel turns) started. Air bags no longer appear to be in working order after apparent click spring failure. Part has not been replaced to confirm.

On [xxx], I was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision in arkansas while driving my Dodge Challenger. The crash was severe enough that the vehicle was declared a total loss. Despite the severity of the collision and significant front-end damage, none of the airbags deployed at any point during the crash. As a result of the collision and the failure of the airbag system to deploy, I sustained physical injuries and required approximately nine months of medical treatment and physical therapy. Based on the severity of the impact and the level of damage to the vehicle, I believe the airbags should have deployed and that their failure may indicate a defect in the airbag system or crash detection sensors. I am submitting this complaint so the incident can be investigated as a potential safety defect. I am concerned that this issue could pose a serious safety risk to other drivers if the airbag system fails to deploy in similar collisions.

During an auto accident the ram emblem on my steering wheel shot off of the steering wheel when the air bags deployed and becoming a projectile and hitting me in the neck leaving a deep bruise and abrasions to the area the ram emblem hit. Its been nearly 3 weeks and the bruising is still present and the skin is still red from the injury. Attached and you can even see the ram horns in in neck. This photo taken later that day. If this can happen in my with my accident I was just lucky it didn't hit my eye or worse.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a local parts store where it was diagnosed and determined that both driver's side and passenger side air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failures to NHTSA campaign numbers: 18v021000 (air bags) and NHTSA campaign number: 15v444000 (air bags). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

A car pulled out in . Frount of me doing 45 he was making a right turn light turned yellow would of made the crossing but had to swerve to miss the car and hit a pole causing frount end damage,estimate repaired 6000. 00to 7500. 00 in damages air bags did not deploy police,officer. Made a report and said that they should of deployed in the report I just bought the car from Dodge of oxnard. And found out they do all of the inspections on the car and not one recall was done think the car was from ‘rental company. 80,000 miles still on warranty pd cash 26000. 00 looking for help about the air bags not deploying fixing car. But was told to wait . Have car inspection first.

Left frontal collision between drivers side head assembly and center front of car- with white tail deer about 100-120 lbs. , causing extensive damage to car. $19,000. Payout from progressive for those extensive repairs. And airbags never deployed. This seems highly alarming to me. The abrupt stop, or the sudden heavy damage to front of vehicle seems like it would activate airbags?? safety issue??.

The contact owns a 2017dodge Challenger. The contact stated while driving approximately 60mph when the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a median which resulted in none of the air bags deploying. 2 people were injured and were sitting in the driver and front passenger side seat. The contact sought medical treatment and sustained whiplash, concussion, and fiancé sustained contusion on ribs, hematoma in right knee, concussion, contusion on left thigh. A police report was taken and the vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The contact stated no warning lights was illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I had the dealership fix a recall (n9c07) for the passenger seat wiring harness connector for the passenger side airbag a while back. My airbag warning lamp turned on recently and my mechanic told me it was that same issue that the recall was supposed to fix. I was told by the dealer that since this was replaced once already, they refused to replace it again. This is a major safety concern if the passenger side airbag does not deploy correctly. It is outrageous that their part is malfunctioning at no fault of my own and they refuse to fix it.

My car was in a collision yesterday. I was rear-ended and pushed into another vehicle, resulting in both front and rear impacts. The air bag did not deploy, even though I could smell it, as if it did deploy. Also, my car app notified me that the airbag had been deployed and needed to be taken to a service provider to be serviced. The problem is that no airbags actually deployed. So if I had been in a situation that required the airbags to save my life, I would not have had them. I feel like this could really be a problem if it happened in another situation & I wanted to let someone know so they can look into it.

The vehicle was taking to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel was damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified . The contact mention that he had to got the battery replaced . The contact mentioned that he received notification on NHTSA campaign number: 16v352000(air bags) the contact stated the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time. The failure mileage was 185,000.

Abs light is on airbag light is on traction control won't come back on.

Airbag light stays on and bells. I put in for the recall but records show even on here that its repaired but it never has. I'm afraid it may explode and metal may come out and and harm me or passenger. Why does system show repair but it hasnt been and can it be repaired? it's a part of recall.

I took my car to the dealer for recalls they didn’t fix anything they left my car out in the rain the hood up and choppa had my car for a whole month did any nothing they were very courteous no customer assistance nothing.

My vehicle was inspected for recall 13v-118, however the part was not replaced and is now having intermittent electrical issues, disconnecting the air bag system. I would like to have the vehicle re-inspected under this same recall and the problem corrected.

I have received a letter about an airbag safety recall. I went to dealership to get it fixed. The dealer said that they not going to fixed it because my car got to a car accident before, so they could not perform recall due to airbag deployed. The lady said no dealership will fixed it. I want to know if I am going to get any credit so that I can get it fixed, or am I going to be the one who is going to pay to fix it out of my pocket. I was traveling down bear valley road at about 50mph and I struck another vehicle and none of my air bags deployed I suffered a concussion.
