Body Problems of Dodge Challenger - part 1

Driver & passenger door windows on many 2010-2017 Dodge Challengers activate repeatedly on their own during driving and after ignition is turned off causing the battery to completely drain overnight & sometimes after only one or two hours after the ignition is turned off. There was a TSB#23-039-11. This TSB does not apply to my 2013 Challenger. Parts are extremely expensive and the car leaves me stranded if parked only a couple of hours. During driving the cycling down and up causes danger as it appears the door wants to open on its own and making us have to pull over several times until we figured out it was doing it on its own as if it was haunted. No warning lights on my 2013 Challenger. Mechanics checked it after having 2 brand new batteries drain overnight. Batteries are approximately $200. 00. Dealer will only say the door latch mechanism needs replacing at approximately $480. 00. Parts cost approx. $190. 00.

Windshield stress crack. From driver side a pillar across the windshield. Widely known factory defect issue. Causing many windshield replacements. No impact, no chips. This was due to improper bonding of the windshield during manufacturing, and body flex of the vehicle.

On Saturday 1:20am 11/15/25 driving 27 miles from distance vehicle started to malfunction electrically with internal lights quickly power outages on and off interior lightin. Dim headlights, or issues with electrical components. 11/15/25 a vehicle fire occurred, and preliminary investigations suggest a battery malfunction as the probable cause. The malfunction led to an uncontrolled thermal event within the battery system, rapidly escalating into a fire that engulfed the vehicle. Further analysis is underway to determine the specific nature of the battery failure and contributing factors. No warning advisory on the preliminary occurrence it escalated from flashing on and off lights and stereo to a stiff steering wheel and vehicle complete shutdown and rapidly smoke coming from the interior of the trunk and fire started consuming the rear end of the trunk and vehicle. This was a very devastating and overwhelming tragedy it happened within 15 minutes timeframe and firedepartment arrived within five minutes into the concerning fire it also took around around a hour for the fireman to put out the fire from the trunk of the vehicle.

I purchased this vehicle from vroom, who is also my lender under united auto credit. The car was sold with a washed title and undisclosed prior structural and mechanical damage. I have documentation confirming the vehicle had serious pre-existing issues and should never have been sold as a clean-title car. The differential has failed three times in under 6 months, and I’ve experienced full drivetrain failure following multiple service visits to Dodge. I had requested inspection of the transmission, but after every visit, the issues worsened. The vehicle is currently available for inspection. The car exhibits violent vibrations, power loss, and unpredictable handling, making it unsafe to drive at highway speeds. The differential is on the verge of catastrophic failure again. These issues risk loss of vehicle control, wheel lock up, and potential collisions. Has the issue been confirmed by a dealer or service center? yes. Dodge dealerships have confirmed repeated differential failure and ongoing drivetrain problems. Independent shops have also verified signs of prior impact and poor repairs. Has the vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance? it has been brought to authorized Dodge service centers at least six times and is the subject of an open Dodge customer care case (7+ months). No police or insurance inspections at this time. This vehicle was fraudulently sold with hidden damage and has presented major, repeated safety hazards. I am asking the NHTSA to investigate not only this vehicle, but the broader pattern of dangerous sales by vroom/united auto credit and Dodge, including title washing and stalling tactics to run out factory warranties before resolution.

Windshield cracking for no apparent reason. I do not know the underlying cause however there are many people reporting this issue on social media sites. Some suspect welding/bonding issues resulting in flex causing the crack under stress. My car was sitting in the garage when the windshield cracked from the a-pillar inward. All videos, pictures submitted from others show the crack in a similar fashion. Driver/passenger side from the a-pillar. Some have provided pictures/videos of brand new cars sitting on the lot with the crack. Others are on their 2nd and 3rd windshield replacement.

2023 Dodge Challenger was parked and not running. Opened driver's door and windshield cracked from pillar on passenger side. No prior stone chips, no prior cracks. Car had less than 3000 miles when crack occurred. Appears that windshield was not properly bonded to the vehicle. Paid safelite $348. 03 for windshield replacement.

Since the day of delivery, the 2018 Dodge Challenger I purchased from carvana has been non-operational due to a dead battery and significant engine problems. Despite multiple attempts to start the vehicle, it required towing to the dealer for repairs. Additionally, the car was delivered with illegally dark tint on all windows, including the front windshield, which is not compliant with California state regulations. These issues have rendered the vehicle unusable and have not been adequately addressed, posing safety and compliance concerns.

This is an issue with chassis rigidity and a manufacturing defect. Causing windshield breakage due to torsional forces, chassis load and unload.   here's my case: 2023 Dodge Challenger r/t - 5. 7 / 6 speed manual. This car was purchased new 12/22/23, it's now broken two oem mopar windshields. First occurrence was 02/05/24 at 2,321 miles. This was warrantied by Dodge and replaced with a new mopar windshield, 03/06/24. Second occurrence was 04/05/24 at 6,446 miles. At this point in time, my car remains unfixed, undrivable, and has been undrivable since 4/5/24. The selling dealer, airport Jeep in platte city, missouri, has been "working" with a local frame shop to obtain an appointment for a laser frame check. At this point, we've been without the usability of a car, yet still paying for it, for over 30 days. Please see attached images regarding my case, alone. Left frontal collision between drivers side head assembly and center front of car- with white tail deer about 100-120 lbs. , causing extensive damage to car. $19,000. Payout from progressive for those extensive repairs. And airbags never deployed. This seems highly alarming to me. The abrupt stop, or the sudden heavy damage to front of vehicle seems like it would activate airbags?? safety issue??.

The rear trunk lid struts fail to keep the trunk open causing the trunk to close without warning and has hit me in the head several times while unloading groceries. It is also very hard to open as the trunk is quite heavy. This was noted to the dealer during the warranty period but they said they were unable to duplicate it. The struts need replaced. I feel this should be a recall since it has occurred since the vehicle was new. Someone could be severely hurt or become trapped in the trunk. The struts are under designed for the weight of the trunk.

The contact had to take the vehicle remote apart to be able to unlock the vehicle. The dealer inspected the vehicle and advised tha the assembly Smart motor may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. When car is in reverse, backup camera is unavailable jeopardizing safety around. During acceleration of car when driving, the speedometer on dash shows different than the digital speedometer. I. E if I am going 40 the digital shows 60+ (varies). Passenger door lock has difficulty clicking lock/unlock and no child lock is on- will be safety concern if exiting is needed of vehicle. All issues above happen almost every time.

The manufacture was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in the customer satisfaction repair for the Smart glass window switch, which caused the passenger window to open independently, the window not to close securely, the battery to drain, and the engine not to start. Bob baker Dodge (5555 car country drive, carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)-814-9664) determined that the passenger door switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 105,000.

A year after I replaced the driver's side Smart glass switch, the door release has been amlfunctioning. It will unlock, but you can't open the door- especially on hot days. This is a saftey risk- if I need the safety of my vehicle, I can't even get it open.

The cover of the air bags ir going lost in the area of the ac vents this part is bether now as dash is preoccupying that in the case of the deploy of the air bags dound open correctly . I see others owners with the same complaint of the Dodge Challenger 2014.

The vehicle suddenly started smoking, immediately followed by fire while I was stopped at a red light in the middle of town. My 2013 Dodge Challenger only had 20,000 miles on it, and all service was done as recommended by Dodge, at a certified shop. I reported the issue to Dodge, and they denied any manufacturing defect, despite the fact that there is a recall for my model, because of known issues regarding alternators overheating, or short circuiting, causing thermal diode fatigue. The car was consumed by flames within minutes, and was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. I have not yet received a settlement.

Rear trunk will not open with key fob, rear trunk button or trunk button located inside the car only way trunk can be opened is with emergency pull down thru rear back seats. Also, computer apps on display screen constantly resetting itself, freezes up constantly and cannot turn down or off radio or any other features until it resets itself . Back up camera terrible when in use at night screens blurry and bright red from back up or brake lights. Back up camera stays on after vehicle is put in drive. Many blind spots on both sides of vehicle. . Problem with trunk just started but I've only had the vehicle for about 6 months. Also 6 days after I bought the car had to be taken back to the dealer because of transfer case leaking oil . Transfer case replaced.

About a week or two ago I remote started my vehicle with the factory remote starter. I entered the vehicle which was stationary, pushed the start button to complete the activation. The vehicle started and ran normally, about a minute or two later the vehicle idled roughly and shutoff, all the dashboard cluster lights and side mirror proximity lights came on. The push button was also illuminated in the "run" position. I tried to push the start button and nothing happened, I tried to open my drivers door and it would not open as the window would not roll down to allow me to open the door (frame less door), if I had forced the door open the window would have broke. I was stuck inside my vehicle which was stationary and not in drive. I then pressed the unlock function on the key fob and the car made all the noises to unlock, I again tried opening the door and the window would not roll down. I then tried pushing the start button and the button would not come out of "run" mode. I pressed the lock function on the key fob, the vehicle made all the noises of locking (horn, flashing lights, actuator noise for lock) but the door still would not open as the window would not roll down; the vehicle start button was still in "run" mode. I pressed the lock and unlock button a few more times until I was finally able to open the door. Once the door was open I continue pressing the lock/unlock button on the key fob, the vehicle finally let me push the start button to take it out of "run" mode. Once the vehicle went "off" I was able to start it by pushing the start button. On may 22, 2018 I took the vehicle to gresham Dodge dealership, they ran a quick diagnostic and said there was no event stored, that I would have to let it happen again before they could do anything.

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that the factory eom windshield concerning the front of the vehicle with the presence of a crack. Without making the contact aware, of the replacement part, the dealer east hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram srt, 2300 northern blvd, greenvale, NY 11548, 1-(866) 386-2702 serviced the vehicle but had not specified if the replacement oem windshield was replaced with a newly designed oem windshield so the contact was uncertain if the problem was remedied with an appropriate permanent fix. The contact was waiting on the dealer to receive a response from the manufacturer to determine the guidelines to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified and was to follow up with a response to the dealership and the vehicle owner. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.

2017 Challenger scat pack 392: trunk deck lid rendered inoperable. Unable to access trunk using key fob function, interior push-button function or exterior push-button function. Trunk deck lid will only open while gaining access through fold-down rear seats and pulling emergency latch cable. Problem occurs while vehicle is in park and stationary.

Door Smart glass self cycling and/or battery drain when my 2013 Dodge Challenger is parked and ignition key off, I am experiencing condition where the door Smart glass feature cycles on its own leading which to battery drain. This have been happening since purchasing the. I have been jumping it off and recharging the battery. This is the second battery that I have purchased. To have the issue repaired , the service will cost me over $700. 00 to replace both doors latch/switch.

On occasion the trunk will suddenly fall down when it should remain up. The trunk has fallen on my head and injured me more than once. This is a safety hazard. The vehicle is a 2011 Dodge Challenger srt8 with about 80k miles. Vehicle is parked and turned off when the issue occurs. The issue has been occurring for several months.

The contact was informed that the foam on the vehicle near the area holding water caused rust, which was a common issue. The certified mechanic referred the contact to a Chrysler dealer. Weather strip between front bumper cover and hood has deteriorated already only 4years old. Wtf.

The driver side window repeatedly moves up and down un-commanded. This happens when the vehicle is driven or stationary and causes the battery to be drained overnight. This issue was noted by Chrysler on the 2011 Challenger and addressed in the "customer satisfaction notification m24 Smart glass switch". The same issues are present on the 2012 Challenger as evident in the amount NHTSA complaints filed against this vehicle (or a quick search on google for "Smart glass switch issues"). However, they refuse to include these models in their distributor/dealer service instructions regarding m24 when they were only manufactured a few months apart and likely were assembled using the same faulty parts. So far, I was forced to pay out of pocket for a new battery, and will soon have to pay for the replacement Smart glass switches and labor.

Water leaking in trunk where rear fuse and battery located. Been in service over 6 times trying to fix issue. Water is leaking onto fuse panal that hold varies types fuse for safety devices. They tell me all years leak but the worst year is 2015. I giving them one last chance to fix issue, than we going lemon law way. I have been dealing with this for 4 month now and need to out to public as this is safety issue with car, it could loose varies type of safety equipment or catch fire. It all over internet about the challneger leaking, but fca denies it and they do not have anything in star system they use to diagnose, the put double sided tape to bandaid the problem to get us go away from are buying dealer where we bought it ! also stereo sound really bad and they are willing deal with it . Has hardware issue and with head unit or bluetooth unit , it hard to understand when talking thru it.

Involved in a head on collision,the others drive was on our side of the road and hit us head on , the air bags didn't deploy and sent me into the dash board along with the driver , I sustained severe whiplash and so did the driver we were transported to the hospital by ambulance and I am now j sergio g physical therapy due to the airbags not deploying, the car was involve in another accident weeks later where the car was hit twice intentionally and the air bags didn't deploy then either .
