3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

Once the cruise control or adaptive cruise control is set, there is no indication as to what the speed is set to on the display. The only way to find out what it was set to is to turn off the cruise control then set a new speed. Also, when increasing or decreasing the speed control, there is nothing to indicate the new speed in the display. You must count how many times you press the + or - speed button to calculate the new speed. I believe this is a big driving distraction and could be potentially dangerous. You could also accidentally set the speed faster that you thought. All other cars with cruise control that I have owned or rented show the set speed on the display. According to online Dodge Challenger forums, this is a common complaint with this year and model car as well as others. The forum indicates that this may be a programming error/oversight. It has been into the dealer a couple times for several days. They confirmed that it happens on my car and all the cars in their lot of the same year and model. Stellantis stated that this was done by design since 2019 even though the owner's manual says the speed should show on the display. This issue has been present since I purchased the car in September 2023 and continues to this day. I, and others, would like the manufacturer to fix this problem. They acknowledge the issue exist, but continue to ignore it and refuse to fix it.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 02/14/2023

Was getting on freeway and hit the gas to accelerate and get ahead of the traffic. The Challenger would not accelerate fast (has a hemi) and car almost flew into me. Started testing the vehicle and it just wouldn't accelerate fast, it was stall slowly and pickup speed over 30 seconds or so. I brought it in to one shop and they said its probably a software update and to take it to Dodge and it should be free. Dodge told me it's probably not software, kept my car for 5 days and told me it was a software update and that they updated it for free but still charged me $175 for the "diagnosis" when I told them exactly what the issue was. And now that I got it back, it gets stuck in reverse, you have to turn the vehcile off and wait and start it again then it works. At a red light turn yesterday, it wouldn't drive forward and the "d" for drive started flashing.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

I am having same issues as everyone else. I recently started having issues where my automatic transmission is sticking in gear and doesn't shift like it needs to. I also, have to either pull over and shut the car off or shift it into manual transmission. This is a huge problem the manufacture needs to deal with.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 11/03/2015

About 25% of the time, while driving on a city street at 40 mph and gradually pressing the accelerator to begin a climb up a slight hill, the engine rpm and vehicle speed will not increase, and the vehicle will continue to run at 40 mph with accelerator position increasing from 10% to 80%. During this throttle response failure, the auto stick shift was used to downshift from 4th to 3rd gear, the evic display changed to 3rd gear but and transmission remained in 4th. After 8 seconds of throttle delay (timing may vary), the vehicle will down shift and accelerate. This unpredictable throttle response has a potential of causing an accident if this throttle response failure occurs during a situation of passing or avoiding another vehicle. I have brought the vehicle back to the Dodge dealer on Nov 2015 and Apr 2016, and they took it for a test drive and concluded that the vehicle is fine. They could not repeat the failure and told me everything is normal. Dodge will not, or cannot fix the root cause of this throttle response failure.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

New 2015 Dodge Challenger purchased with 67 miles on it. Vehicle experienced "stuck" rpm's at 23 and 51 mph. Hard shifts. Hard transitions. Shuttering in the transmission. Inability to shift out of 3500 rpm while accelerating onto the highway. I was at a dead stop attempting to get into the highway lane [no onramp area to merge] and the car only went to 51 mph and would not accelerate any more. The transmission stayed at 3500 rpm. I had a passenger take a video of the issue with my camera phone to show the dealership the issue. Rally mode is even worse. Another car on safercar. Gov has the same issue, same model, same year. I have not even made my first payment on it to Chrysler capital. I have an open "star" case with Dodge customer care and I have gone through two case managers already. The case manager as of today told me, that they are going to tell the dealer to drop the transmission and check the valve body for excess wear or other issues. The car has been at the dealer 3 times in the the 4 weeks I have assumed control/leased the car. This last time will make 9 days at the dealer. There is a systemic issue with these vehicles. Side note. Mid dash vent clicks--refuses to close. Another dealership ordered the part for that--electrical issues all around with the 2015 Dodge Challenger sxt.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 07/04/2014

Problem identical to prior customer complaint with all internal lights and gauges blinking. Driving down the road and the lights started flashing, enging started racing, smelled rubber, speedometer racing. Pulled over to the side of the road. Put the car in park, and the light show continued. All of a sudden the car cut off and never started again. Had to call a tow truck to pick it up and take to repair shop. Repairman exact words were "the alternator is fried and it destroyed your battery". After a new battery was put in the car, the alternator started smoking. Battery/installation $250, alternater/installation $750. Could only get alternator from Dodge dealership because they claim the car was too new for an aftermarket alternator. . . . And was on back order. I may not be the smartest sperson in the world, but doesn't it seem that there are some major issues going on if the supposedly new alternator is on backorder. Had my son and I been on the highway driving and the car cut off, this story may have had a different ending. I'm very concerned that there has not been a recall. I hope and pray that Dodge is not waiting for someone or some family to lose their life before making this a safer vehicle. This not only puts Dodge Challenger owners at risk, but the other drivers on the road as well.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

My car hesitates when taking off sometimes and the engine is ticking like it has bad valves.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 05/04/2014

Saw light on dash (etc malfunction indicator light) and next memory is being at hospital. During the 60-90 seconds after I saw light witnesses watched my 2013 Challenger r/t accelerate up to high 90s and ultimately crash through fence and into house. Edr shows steering at traffic circle but no accelerator pedal input during last five seconds. Engineers say probable cause is malfunction in electronic throttle control and poorly designed brake-throttle override.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

I was returning to work from lunch and I was driving south in the company parking lot going no faster than 5-10 mph. I started to make a right turn into a parking space so that I could back into the parking space directly behind it. As I started to make the turn I took my foot off the gas and placed it on the brake so I could come to a complete stop before I backed up into the space behind me. As I had my foot on the brake the car accelerated on its own and because I had no time to react the car plowed through a tree, some heavy vegetation and down an embankment. There was significant damage to the front of the car, as a result of the impact with the tree, which caused the entire bumper to fall off and destroyed. Yet, the airbags, which were recalled and already "serviced" once before, never deployed.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

After changing a dead battery the etc light came on (solid when starting and running). Before changing the battery there was no abnormal driving conditions or noticeable horsepower issues. The manual states to take these actions "if the light comes on while the engine is running, safely bring the vehicle to a complete stop as soon as possible, place the shift lever in park, and cycle the ignition key. The light should turn off. If the light remains lit with the engine running, your vehicle will usually be drivable. However, see an authorized dealer for service as soon as possible. " if the light is flashing when the engine is running, immediate service is required. In this case, you may experience reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine stall, and your vehicle may require towing. " after I changed the battery, I started to drive the vehicle and I had no horsepower. So after performing very common maintenance (changing the battery), I have to decide if I am going to drive to the dealership because the manual vaguely interprets this error code and how to proceed to fix it? these is a safety concern because Chrysler uses the wording "usually be drivable" the loss of any throttle control is dangerous. My vehicle is drivable, but only at 5 mph. This is the only information Chrysler has in the owners manual. I called the Chrysler group llc customer center and that was all the information they had available also. Case number 24772432. Does Chrysler have known issues with the etc and how to interpret the error code? why would this happen after a battery change?.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 11/17/2013

I came to a stop sign and made a stop. I went to accelerate and the car turned off. Had to stop the car completely in the middle of an intersection to turn it back on.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

I was driving normal at about 70mph and was exiting highway and the car just died. I pulled over and tried to crank it and nothing. Called a wrecker and they took me to the parts house to get a code checked and it said camshaft position sensor. I bought one and took it home and replaced it and still nothing. You could see that the timing chain had broke through the hole where the sensor went. Over a few weeks I had to replace the timing chain, plastic guide and tensioner (they gave me metal parts as a replacement), hsd to remove the heads and replace all valves because they were bent, had to find and replace broken a valve guide. This was caused from what I was told by the plastic parts wearing out and Chrysler is quietly replacing them as people bring them in, I fixed my own and kept receipts and all broken parts. They are also saying it is a harmonic issue with the mds either way I called and made a claim with Chrysler and they tried to deny it was common. I have found that it is way more common than are saying and they just don't want to have a recall. I was also yelled at by a manager at freedom Dodge when I mentioned this in front of other customers, he said "Dodge never does a recall unless its a safety issue!" I said," if I'm going 70mph on the highway and the motor dieing wasn't a safety issue I didn't know what was. " he went to the back and was mad and then another employee that was getting my parts whispered to me it more common than they want to admit. I feel like I got ripped off and they are advertising a product that doesn't last, the car only had 70k and hasn't been driven very hard. I spent a little over $1000 to fix this and that was cheap, Dodge wanted $7000 to do it and I am not a mechanic, thank goodness for good friend and the internet.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 12/28/2010

I used my remote start to warm-up my 2010 Challenger rt. I left for work and traveled at 20 mph in my subdivision. I arrived at intersection to make at turn onto a 45 mph street and traveled about 1 mile to light stopped and made a right turn onto another 45 mph street (4 lanes). As I increased speed to 45 limit I felt the gas pedal pull away from my foot and the car began to quickly speed up. I tapped the accelerator and then the brake thinking that the pedal was stuck due to cold weather 18 degrees. It just kept increasing in speed. I immediately shifted into neutral to take torque off the drive train. I let it coast into the next side street and put it into park. The engine was idling at 4000 rpm. I shut it off and restarted it and it immediately jumped back up to 4000 rpm. I had to move it out of the way so I pulled it into a cul-DE-sac riding the brake with both feet. Again, I shut it off, waited a little and restarted it. Again, it jumped to 4000 rpm. I called my wife and told her what had happened. She suggested that I bring it home and take our other car. I decided to try shutting it down again. Again when I started it jumped to 4000 rpm. I decided to take it home and rode the brake back to the stop in order to make the left turn to go home. The two lanes of traffic going that direction was non-stop so I elected to avoid going into a congested situation not knowing what it would do. I decided to go right since there were no cars going that direction to worry about hitting. Shortly after I made the turn the rpm's dropped to normal. I punched the accelerator to check it and make sure it would not repeat my startling experience. I thank god that my wife was not driving it at the time. She would have panicked and who knows what would have happened. I drove the car the rest of the way to work making sure that I kept a very safe distance between me and the car ahead. I sent Chrysler an email about my experience. My car is now at a dealer being evaluated.
