2006 Dodge Charger stalling out while in motion cutting off. Stalls out after filling tank full cuts off hard to start back . Cuts off multiple time while driving in traffic . Looses power lights on dash do not light up .
Luckily the freeway was empty, but from 70mph I went to about 20 mph I had to call a tow truck took it in and couldnt find anything wrong with it. It did it again last month on a country rd, I've been lucky that I haven't been in an accident! it also turns off at stops but will restart immediately. No engine light is on I've paid for 3 diagnostic checks and nothing.
After filling up with gas drove out of gas station and car stalled started it up and I drove a couple blocks and it did it again drove about 1/2 mile it did it again. It was scary I was in heavy traffic.
Filled vehicle with 10% ethanol 87 octane gasoline at self-service station on September 19, 2014. Drove away and vehicle stalled at first intersection. I put the vehicle in neutral and started it with no further problems until I filled tank again after about 250 miles. (I was driving a 1500 mile trip from one state to another. ) every time I refilled the tank, the vehicle would stall within a few hundred feet of filling station. This stalling has continued through yesterday, September 29, 2014, and I am concerned it will happen again when I refill the tank. If the vehicle stalls at the wrong time, someone could be seriously hurt or killed.
When I fully fill and top off my gas tank the car stalls and sputters. I know I am not the only one having this problem as I have seen people complaining online. My car is a Dodge Charger rt 2006. This is unsafe and there should be an immediate recall the fix the vapor canister and the gas tank. It might be expensive but if your car is on the highway going 60 mph and power steering fails when youre driving it could be fatal. Fix this immediately.
My car completely shut off when I pulled into the turning lane. The steering wheel locked up and I had no control. Once at a complete stop, I was able to start the car normally and everything was normal. This has happened to me previously but I was actually driving at a higher speed and with my child inside!!. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem as I have read that this was happening to many Dodge drivers that had 2006 models.
2 months ago I was leaving work and got in my car to go home. My car would not shift out of park. I had it towed to a dealer and was charged 1500 to repair!! after learning of all the go recalls, I've come across many people who have experienced the same problem. I also understand that some cars were recalled and some not, for the exact same issue! how is that even possible? I am requesting this issue be investigated and go to be held accountable! some are being told it wasn't recalled due to not being a safety issue??? how is it not a safety issue if you can't move your car? I could have been anywhere in an emergency situation where I had to leave. Furthermore, even if it's not considered a safety issue, how is the consumer to be held liable for an obvious manufacturer defect?? please investigate this matter.
My car will stall out while driving or sitting. I have tried to research what the problem, others indicated a fuel purge valave. My cars runs fine other wise but this should not be happen.
After refueling, the car stalls at speed. This pretty much now happens after every fill up. The car always restarts, but usually happens 2-4 times after initially refueling. The danger is, it sometimes happens at speed, the car quickly decelerates in traffic making it dangerous. Many times we have had to pull off the road in traffic to restart.
2006 Dodge Charger r/t third occurrence after filling car up it stalled and could not start on first attempt. Each time filling up I drove maybe 100 yards and the car stalls with no warning. Then getting on the highway with 200 miles to drive guessing if going to stall with a family of four in the car not good. I called the dealer they never heard of this problem and I should bring it in and it could be several different things with a diagnostic fee $145. 00. I searched the internet and was astounded how many car owners with same problem. This is a very large safety issue and my dealer with my VIN stated there are no recalls with your problem. There should not have to be fatalities to fix the problems Dodge knows about !! they need to recall is justified. I just know the dealers won't fix it for free. Frustrated Dodge owner !!.
I feel that Chrysler is not honoring the agreement of extending the warranty on the fuel tanks as stated. Its been months and Chrysler either isn't going to warranty the tanks or they are being very selective on which tanks they consider defective. My VIN is not showing being covered by this warranty even though it meets all the qualifications. This is the message I received from the local Dodge/Chrysler dealership regarding my fuel tank issue on April 10, 2014: in checking on Chrysler¿¿s website, there is no listed extended coverage regarding your fuel tank pertaining to your particular vehicle at this time. Recall¿¿s are VIN specific and after checking yours on chryslers website it does not show any extended lifetime coverage regarding your vehicle in particular. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this matter please feel free to contact Chrysler/Dodge at 1-800-423-6343. My original complaint regarding the issue with my 2006 Dodge Charger was filed: date complaint filed: 01/07/2014 component(s): fuel/propulsion system date of incident: 11/28/2013 NHTSA id number: 10558790.
Engine stalled after startup or @ low speed several times, some times after fuel topoff and engine light /electronic throttle control light came on.
My vehicle began shutting off while idle about about a year ago. It started back up immediately and I was able to continue driving. Initially there were no check engine lights that came up. It soon happened again and this time the check engine light came on. I took it to firestone and they pulled some codes that they said the dealer had to repair. By the time I got to the dealer the lights went off and I shared the other diagnostic with them but they were unable to determine what was really wrong. It started happening again months later and I took it to yet another mechanic. This mechanic 'reset the computer" and made the check engine lights turn off. It stopped for a time but the problem came back. This time (140,000 miles) the engine shut off on the highway! I was slightly tapped on the rear by the driver behind me. Another time a semi truck was behind me and I stalled. Luckily we were in slow moving traffic. Again at high speeds the engine would turn back on but this is very dangerous. I am afraid to drive my baby in this vehicle. There are a ton of similar complaints on Dodge forums with these vehicles. Dodge needs to fix this before someone gets hurt or dies!!!.
Vehicle stalls out intermittently after refueling. This happens when vehicle is stopped or slowing for a stop. Had vehicle examined and no trouble codes are in the computer.
On the last 2 occasions of filling our vehicle with gas the car will purge and stall, loosing all power. I happens for a couple days and thens goes away. We took it to the dealer and they cannot find any codes, they also told us do not fill the tank. I do not understand this and I do not feel safe in this vehicle anymore. I have not been filling the tank and so far so good but not the answer. Its very scary to just stall after filling your car with gas and there is nothing you can do. I need help. .
Car will stall at idle or when starting to accelerate car will cut off by it self and then restart.
Engine stall after refuel. In researching this issue, NHTSA #pe13016 addresses the problem. However, I have yet to receive any documentation that allows repair of my vehicle. Dodge states my vehicle isn't covered.
Vehicle shuts off when stopped at stopped or when slowing down . I have had pcm, ecm, coils, and spark plugs and still experiencing same shut off.
Vehicle stopped after filling with gas. Started up again and shut down right away. This happens frequently after filling up with gas. Could only put in one incident but this is an on going issue. It appears there is an agreement in hand for correction why isn't it published?.
Car stalls out after filling up the tank. It also is dying and cranking back up at 40 mph and a couple of times on the freeway doing 80 mph. Also just sitting at a red light with a half of tank of gas and car just dies. Have to put it in park to restart it.
The gear shifter will not allow the car to shift out of park.
My shifter does not engage fully into park. While in park without stepping on brake my 2 year old was able to move to r-n-d. You have to pull shifter all the way to the left to remove key from steering column but shifter will not lock.
Gear shift stuck in park car in garage aaa towing came out towed car and repaired $312. 16 other 2006 Chargers on recall list for this same issue this one needs to be also it is a special edition model so only 2000 made of these it's obvious by recall list this is an issue, why should I have to pay just because my car is a special model.
Transmission shifter interlock lever return spring hook broke my 2006 Dodge Charger was in park overnight, went out to start vehicle, once vehicle was running, tried to take the gear out of park to drive and it would not release. Turned car off, sat for 5 minutes, started car again, put foot on brake and tried to take gear out of park, it would not release. Called mechanic and informed him of the situation, mechanic came to see vehicle and informed me that the shifter interlock lever spring hook was broken, that's why the gear shift would not come out of park. The mechanic informed me that it was going to happen to 2nd vehicle that I own (Dodge magnum) as well, for he's had a lot of Dodge vehicles with the same problem.
When I got into the car to leave work I could not get it out of park. I got a ride home and returned the next day and called the Dodge dealership. They said they have had this happen numerous times and that it could happen anywhere. One of the mechanics had it happen when he stopped for fuel. The part cost $7 and the labor is $175. I feel I was fortunate that it did not happen while I had my infant grandkids with me and that it happened at work, so at least I was not stranded somewhere alone. Evidently Dodge is aware of the problem because the mechanic said they used to have to replace the whole shift mechanism and now Dodge has come out with a cheaper part to fix it. It evidently doesn't have anything to do with the year because they said they have had it happen on brand new vehicles as well as older models.
Filled gas tank and then approx 10 miles into my drive car chug chugged a couple times then stalled. At first car wouldn't restart but when I pressed gas pedal and turned key on next attempt it turned over. Drove short distance and stalled again. This happened again and again when I filled my tank to full. Eventually I found that if I did not fill tank to full I was ok.
While waiting at stop lights, car idles fine. The moment the light turns green and I release the brake to step on the gas pedal the car stalls. This has happened up to 4 times in one day. Happened only once today 3/6/2014.
While driving on the highway going 60mph in the center lane during busy traffic and it was dark, the vehicle just shut completely off. I also had a my 14 month baby in the car. There was lost of power, steering was lost. I had to shift it in neutral and glide to the shoulder lane almost being hit by a truck. I turned the key off and tried to restart the car, after a few attempts the car started, when I shifted it in drive and proceeded to try and get back on the road it shut off again. The engine & electrical light was on. I tried restarting it and it started and drove like nothing had happened. I took it to the shop and they ran diagnostics and tried to duplicate the problem, they couldn't help me and says that until it happens again they can't do anything. I called the dealership and they said the same thing, they said that they have never heard of this happening. They said they would keep my vehicle and try to figure out what is going on, if they don't find anything than they would keep it and try to duplicate the problem and I could be without my car until they figure it out. I researched it online and there are multiple cases of this happening with Chrysler vehicles. There is now an investigation ongoing but until then many owners have to deal with this problem or go without their vehicle. A really bad accident to include serious injuries and or death to the driver can happen and what will happen then? before this occurs something needs to be done immediately and the company should pay for the repairs to correct his issue. A recall needs to be issued immediately!.
Car would no start after sitting for a short period of time. This has happened multiple times cold starts and short short starts, even stalling while driving. Have taken into dealership and they can not find the problem.
My car have mis fire cylinder 1 it shakes when it cold then after a while it goes away, transmission driving bad out of no where going only 30 miles the fastest in my car stuck in park.
After filling up my gas tank with fuel I drove my car about 16 miles and it stalled out, I put it in neutral and it did start back up. Next day I took my car to the dealership and my adviser asked me if I topped off my tank after filling up and I said yes, so he told me not to do that because the 06 model Chargers have a defect with the gas tanks that cause's the car to stall out after topping it off. I took his advise and my car didn't stall out for about 7 month's. On 08/01/13 I filled up my gas tank without topping it off, got on the highway drove about 16 miles again and exited, as I was making a left turn the car stalled out again and it did that two more times as I was driving it to the dealership. This time my adviser told me to only fill up 3/4 of a tank. The cost for this repair is ridiculous and the customers who paid 30k to 45k for these cars should not be stuck with the bill. There should be a urgent recall on all of these cars before someone gets hurt or turn's into road kill on the highway.
My car has had multiple occurrences where I am sitting at a stoplight in traffic and the car will suddenly shut off for no reason. This usually occurs after I fill the gas tank completely full after a trip to the gas station. My car has also done this while the car is moving. This has happened up to 70 mph while trying to pass another vehicle. The car actually "coughed" then just sort of stalling, suddenly started performing normally. This vehicle has stalled so many times at stoplights in traffic that my wife is afraid to drive it anymore. My local Chrysler dealer has installed two different transmission control modules in the car in an attempt to fix the problem, but to no avail. I have noticed that since I have stopped filling the gas tank completely full that the stalling has stopped.
I was ready to leave work for the night and my car would not shift out of park we tried to use the emergency release button on the side of the gear shift but it didnt work. I called a mechanic and he came out googled the problem and saw that it may have been a shifter assembly defect,as he looked at the assembly there was noted to b a cable wire the was also dislodged,he advised me to have the car towed to a Dodge dealer for repair. The car was taken to the dealership and the entire shifter assmebly and cable had to be installed.
I was turning left into a parking lot and the vehicle suddenly stalled. This has happened probably 20 different times since I purchased the vehicle in March 2009. It has happened while driving at various speeds, while exiting the interstate, while turning at intersections and while driving on straight aways. Several times have been soon after refueling. This always happens suddenly and without warning and has nearly caused me to wreck the vehicle. The last time this happened was on 5/17/2013, I had refueled that morning. That evening it stalled twice and I had trouble restarting the vehicle. Something needs to be done before someone gets hurt or killed. I'm afraid to have my kids in the car.
