We own a 2007 Dodge Charger. Car worked great until I tried to leave out of my garage. I turned on the car and the gear shift would not move out of park. Contacted the dealership and was advised that we would need to have it towed in. We have the extended 72 month, 75,0000 mile warranty and the mileage at the time was 45,000. After having our car towed, the Dodge technician explained that this part is not covered under our warranty and would cost $323 with parts & labor. One person even acknowledged that this is a common problem. So I've researched this defect and have seen numerous complaints online. . . . And I am surprised there has not been a recall. We own 2 Dodge vehicles and were considering getting a durango, but if this problem isn't resolved or at least covered by our warranty, we will consider buying another make of car.

I put my car in park for the night. I got up the next morning for work but I could not get the car to move out of park. It was completely fine the day before. I looked online and this issue happens to alot of people. My girlfriend has a chrylser that did the exact same thing and had a recal sent out. When I called about my Dodge the VIN doesnt fit into the date range for the vehicles built that were recalled. This is insane. . . Same yr, make, model, problem. . . . 12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2011

Vehicle brought home and parked on 7/17 as normal. 7/18 around 4pm attempted to start vehicle and go to local grocery store. Vehicle would not come out of park. Called Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403, was referred to local dealership at 1-800-992-1997. Was told to remove the chrome bezel around top of console and remove the package tray on the side and push the square pink tab device inward to release the shift mechanism. Did not work. Then was told of a service campaign on similiar vehicles but when I gave them the VIN I was informed mine was not included. Started using google to search for similiar incidents and found them to be numerous. Seems we have a factory defect here that is known and for all intents and purposes is a time bomb waiting to nap people at its first opportunity and leave them stranded. My car has 92,000 miles on it and as far as I can tell I am lucky to have made it that far. I will be on the phone with Chrysler today. . 7/19, to give them an earful of my dis satisfaction with this whole scene.

My 2007 Dodge Charger will not shift from park. I have read many complaints online and this should be a manufacture recall issue. This is costing me 380. 00 to fix and should be a Dodge liability. The company is making money had over fist for a problem created by them.

18 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2011

Dear sir or mam, I have a 2007 Dodge Charger srt. My vehicle will not get out of park, because of a defect in the gear linkage. When I called Chrysler corp. I was informed that there is a recall on certain models based on time the vehicle came out of production. Althouigh I'm having the same problem as the re-calls, they refuse to fix my car. My car has been parked, un drivable for almost 3 months. Reguardless of production date, my auto was made by Dodge , I'm having re-call problem, I only have 37 thousand miles on this vehicle, and it's been in the shop 4 times!!. I can't understand why Chrysler wants me to pay for their mess-up. I can't afford to continue to make car payments on a parked car. Please look into this matter. I've spoke with Chrysler corp. With no resolve. Thanking you in advance for your time and attention. Jenice.

19 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2010

We went to the movies and when we came out the car would not come out of park. No matter what we did the gear shifter would not move. We had to get a ride home. We called the dealership and they said this is a common problem with Chargers and told us how to get into the gear shift mechanism so that we could get it out of park. This happens everytime it is put in park we have to take it apart. This needs to be recalled. We cannot afford to have this fixed on the car when it is considered a common problem. Dodge needs to make their customers happy, we will not be recommending this vehicle until a recall is made to correct this problem. We feel it is poor salesmanship to not disclose this at the beginning of the sale. We have been Dodge owners for the last 20 years but that is due to change without further help on this problem.

20 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

I drove my car to work and parked it. When I went out to my car to go to lunch it would not shift out of park. I had to remove the upholstery around the gear shift selector to get to the plastic piece that was causing the problem. I have to use a screw driver to move the broken piece so that I can shift the car, until I have time to make it to the dealer. I have done some research and found that this is a common problem with the Dodge Charger.

21 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2010

I have a 2007 Dodge Charger that will has gotten stuck in park numerous times. It has eventually come out after a few minutes of jiggling the gear shifter. After looking online I have read several complaints regarding this issue. I had my speakers recalled, I don't understand why this has not been recalled yet.

22 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2010

I drove my car to the end of my road to pick my kids up from the bus stop. Once I put the car in park to allow the kids to get in it would not shift out of park. I called a tow truck and when he arrived he removed the plastic console and showed me that by pressing a hot pink lever my car would engage. He was correct and I drove my car home. I contacted the dealership and they informed me that it would cost around $350 to have fixed since my warranty ran out less than one month ago. I do not feel that I should have to pay that after reading the numerous complaints listed on here. This is obviously shoddy manufacturing and should be recalled.

23 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

07 Dodge Charger, with automatic transmission, and console shifter. The plastic piece holding the park gear release spring breaks off and the vehicle can then not be shifted into gear. This is an obvious engineering flaw that Chrysler and it's dealerships are well aware of, and choose not to address as a warranty or recall issue. The vehicle I am involved with has only 46,000 miles. The problem is widespread enough that the aftermarket parts industry, speciffically dorman , manufactures and sells a metal replacement for this obviously defective and inadequate part.

24 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2010

My car shifter won't come out of park. I own a Dodge Charger 2007. Had to get a tow truck to take car to mechanic. Was told that they get an average of 2 of these cars per week for the same problem. Checked in internet and found several complaints about the same problem. I want to get reimbursed from the Chrysler/Dodge company for this expense ($518) because this should be a recall issue for all the Charger owners. The mechanic informed the consumer the gear shift lever broke and the piece had to be removed and replaced. Updated ivoq 12/01/10.
