1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2025

While driving my 2012 Dodge Charger at times it pops out of driving going into neutral. It happens when I'm on the hwy or in town. And the air bags has illuminated on the dash and it is at the dealership, and I was told, I have to pay for everything out of pocket. To replace it, popping out of gear while driving and the airbags. The dealership is not going to warranty anything because it's past. It does it off and on, and I don't know when it's going to happen. Popping in and out of gear. So I took it to the [xxx] 4025 cleveland blvd caldwell idaho. 83605. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

I purchased a 2012 Dodge Charger shortly after tha it just stopped working. It was perfectly fine and then it just wouldn't start. It only turned on to accessory mode. The lights ,radio,ac, ect. Turned on but the vehicle did no. The brake pedal was very hard couldn't be pushed down. On the dashboard a red lightning bolt symbol with two parentheses appeared. I got it towed the dealership send the problem was the battery and the key fob. I picked it up it was fine and then a few days later while driving on the highway it suddenly started to lose power and completely stopped. Same red lightning bolt symbol appeared. I barely made it to the side of the road. I had my son with me. It was a very scary situation our lives were in danger as well as the other drivers behind me because of the sudden decrease in speed. I had to get it towed for the second time. The dealership said that they changed the fuel pump. It was fine after that then couple weeks later I noticed the check engine light come on for about half a day then turn off. 2 days later I went to turn it on and it did not start, same red lightning bolt symbol appeared again. I got it towed to the manufacture dealership for a recall and they did diagnostic and are telling me that it is the starter switch. They didn't mention anything about the red lightning bolt and it still doesn't turn on.

4 Power Train problem

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2023

Service power steering warning comes on, causes my gauge cluster to go blank & dark, I lose a/c, power steering, headlights work intermittently, blinkers & all steering wheel button options stop working, and my transmission will start downshifting shifting erratically. It downshifts so hard I'm afraid I'll lose control of my car. Yesterday I had a message pop up saying it was going into power saving mode. When the power steering warning is on, my a/c will have half the vents blowing cold air, the other half blowing hot heater air. During the winter my heated seats only worked intermittently. All of these issues are related to the past recalls on my car that were supposedly fixed; however, the problems are still occurring. Can somebody please contact me about these recalls and tell me what I should do? thank you!.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Every now and again I have an issue with my car when I'm driving. I can just be driving and next thing you know my car will go into neutral on its own and I will literally have to pull over wherever I'm at. Once I'm pulled over I put the car into park and cut it off. It won't start back up right away cause the brake be feeling like it's locked. After a few minutes it will start back up and drive like nothing happened. I have no idea what causes this problem but it's dangerous. Majority of the time this happened I was in city limits but this last time it happened while I was on the highway going 70mph.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

Note: I have a recording of the incident to provide if needed. I were driving turning a corner and the vehicle just stalled. A Ford explorer hopped the curb in order to avoid hitting me at approx. 35-40 mph. I recently had the alternator replaced and within the past 10 days I had a diagnostic done alongside an oilchange. I looked up my vehicle saw that others had a similar incident and saw that Dodge has a recall for my year model for my exact current issue and I were informed that my car was not listed in the recall. I said for sure this incidence is not a coincidence and possibly my car or others could have been overlooked but who should I reach out to to clarify. The response, noone. You are stuck with a transmission issue even though we have a recall out. Then I were asked if for only $130 bucks an hour would I like to go ahead and check it in. This incident happened for the first time on a road 5 days ago. I have not driven my car since I parked it that day and are quite frankly afraid as I travel with my 2 small children. What is someone like me supposed to do?.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

Alternator began running hot and started burning through the casing. Car smelled like burnt plastic. Also, the heat slightly melted the nearby radiator, which caused a leak and it needing to be replaced as well. This sounds exactly the same as the alternator recall on other Dodge Charger models in the 2012 year. . . But mine is the v8 engine and I was told the recall did not apply.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

I started my vehicle and pulled out of my garage as I do each morning. As I went down the driveway at almost idle speed, I could feel a strong resistance (as if the emergency brake was on) and the power steering tightened up. Suddenly a strong burning smell filled the car, all of the lights on the dash came on and the ac fan blew on high speed. I immediately reversed back to the garage (100 feet or less) and was barely able to park. There was obviously something burning under the hood as the smell filled the garage. I turned off the car. When aaa arrived to tow it, the car was completely dead. The driver chose not to jump it for fear of doing more damage. My local trusted mechanic advised me that there was a recall on 2012 Dodge Charger alternators and he believed that it was my alternator that had failed. I had the car towed to arrigo sawgrass Dodge where they confirmed that the alternator had in fact failed and was burning. He said the recall did not include my VIN and that Chrysler would not cover my expenses. My 16 year old son and I were lucky we were in the driveway, lucky the fire didn't ignite while we were sleeping and lucky my son (a new driver) was not faced with a totally disabled vehicle on the road. According to the recall, this failure created a high risk of crash. Had we been on any road instead of my driveway, we could have been killed.

After a few miles, the vehicle shot down. The contact coasted to the side from where the vehicle was towed to the contact's home and later to a local dealer who diagnosed that the alternator was bad and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any help. The failure mileage was 85,000. The VIN was not provided. Fe.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2015

Vehicle rollaway, engine on. Odi pe15-30 and ea 16-002. I exited my vehicle with the engine running and the transmission was not in park. The vehicle hill start assist gave me enough time to exit the vehicle and then it began to roll backward. The open driver's side door knocked me down and dragged me 50 feet. My right leg and foot went under the left front wheel which pulled me out from under the open door. The vehicle continued rolling backward over an embankment and crashed on the road below. The vehicle was a total loss and I sustained a severe sprain to my right foot. I have pictures and an insurance claim report to provide proof of this incident.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Dodge has known issues and recalls for alternators being defective in their 2012 Charger models but continues to make customers pay out of pocket to fix the issue. I purchased a 2012 Dodge Charger April 2012 cash. Recently my alternator stopped working on the car. I took the car to the nearest Dodge in my area to have test ran on the battery and alternator, the battery tested good but they would not test the alternator unless I paid a $100 fee which I could have done for free at the nearest parts dealer (autozone, o'riely's). I recently repaired my car out of pocket $300 with no assistance from Dodge, but before doing so I saw there has been over 450,000 recalls for the same issue of alternators prematurly going bad. I called 8008531403 and 8009921997 and spent over 2 hours on the phone without a resolution, the first rep advised the recall is VIN specific andnothing applies to my VIN, I tried to explain to the rep that this has been a known isssue for Dodge models made since 2010-2013 and my car was produced within that time frame. The rep advised me to take it in for a diagnostic and I could submit for a possible reimbursment if its determined its fault Dodge. I advised I was not comfortable with doing so if I cant be garaunteed I will be reimbursed, I then asked for a supervisor. The supervisor pamela (id ph314) was rude from the start of the call call and told me its not her concern if my car gets repaired. I love my car and have been considering purchasing my fiance a 2015-2016 model but after how I was treated I am strongly changing my mind.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Charger. While driving at approximately 10 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2015

Driving 55 mph on highway in my 2012 Dodge Charger,I began to smell oil burning, looked down and noticed that the car was running at the highest temperature, 264 degrees. Thankfully I was close to a reputable garage close to my home. I parked the car there, asked for a gentle man to assist me, and once the car cooled enough to open the hood, he took a look. He noticed that the hose leading from the coolant reservoir to the engine was completely sucked in, and the coolant reservoir was filling with oil. Upon inspection from dealership I was informed that the engine needed to be completely replaced due to metal shavings and debris found in oil pan.
