Failure Date: 03/18/2017

While driving home on 3/18. /17, the battery save mode appeared. The battery light then came on. Shortly after, all the warning notifications appeared and the car died. There was a burning rubber smell coming from the hood. The battery a brand new one I recently purchased! now, I can't get into my car at all because the electricity is. Not working! 39 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2017

Was driving Dodge Charger sxt on the highway going approximately 60 mph and heard a whining noise. All of the lights on control panel went on and off and there was a smell of burning rubber. Car suddenly stopped with my pregnant wife and 1 year old in the car and almost cause a major incident. Car went completely dead in middle of highway and wouldn't even turn over, but luckily caused no incident. Dealer said it was a faulty alternator issue that completely drained battery as well. There is a recall p60 on alternators for the make, model, and year of the Dodge challenger sxt, but our vehicle wasn't covered. This could have caused a major incident. It doesn't seem to be a coincidence and Dodge needs to add additional vehicle coverage under this recall before a major incident happens.

40 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2017

Electrical system failure. Entire car shut down. Given 8 speed electronic gear shift, car locked into park while in operation. It was just determined the alternator failure was the cause of this total system failure. No support available at this time.

41 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2017

Lost steering and acceleration while traveling on the highway. This occurred within minutes after the vehicle entered "battery saver mode" and displayed the "battery" icon on the evic screen. This was the first and only indication of a problem, other than the radio not working that day. After pulling over, was able to restart the car, exit the highway, and pull into a service station. While attempting to park, the car would not shift out of drive into park, nor would the car shut down, until the push-button ignition switch was held down for several seconds. An electrical test revealed that the alternator had failed, and the battery tested good. Both the alternator and the battery are the original factory-installed parts.

42 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the battery saver mode light illuminated and several axillary functions like the radio and headlights shut off. The vehicle was seen by an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced and was not part of NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system) but not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

43 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning and was unable to be driven. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that the alternator assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer indicated that there was a manufacturer's recall for the number 6 cylinder, but not the number 8 cylinder alternator assembly. The approximate failure mileage was 75,123.

44 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

The vehicle began to make a whining noise and smelt like burning fumes. The battery saver mode light came on and the car began to stall. The car completely shut off. The alternator failed with no issues prior to this. There was a recall for the same issue for the same year, make and model of my vehicle but only applied to alternators with 160amp, mines it's a 180amp.

45 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2016

I attempted to contact Dodge multiple times for reimbursement on a faulty alternator. The part was issued as a recall (17v-435) on 07-10-17. Since then I have made multiple attempts to submit documentation for reimbursement with no success. I've spoke with representatives from Dodge multiple times all claiming to not have received my documents. I've submitted the via email, mail and uploaded them to there website. This has been going on for 6 months now.

46 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2016

I was driving normally on side street at 35 - 40 mph. I approached and was entering an interstate on-ramp and as I started to accelerate the radio and ac turned off, abs light and anti-skid icon appeared on dash, exterior lights acted erratically dimming and then coming back on, message envelope appeared, bells were ringing, car lost substantial power on ramp as I was trying to accelerate onto interstate and then "battery saver mode" message appeared. I could hear a high pitched whining noise that started out of nowhere but seemed to subside after a few minutes but the car seemed to shake or shudder some but not horribly. Almost like a rough idle but as I was driving. I was able to drive appx 5 miles to get off the interstate and park. Once I stopped and turned off the car, I did restart it to see what would happen and it started normally but after about 2 minutes, "power saver mode" came back on so I took car to dealership the next day and they said it was a faulty alternator. Alternator is model 4801778-ai, 180 amp model. Similar symptoms to recall p60 on 160 amp alternator. Having this happen while I was trying to accelerate onto the interstate almost caused me to get rear-ended!.

47 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Charger. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and later to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be repaired. Earlier in the day, the battery saver mode indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,500.

48 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Charger. While driving 55 mph, the power mode indicator appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle stalled while in motion and was unable to shift gears. The warning lights illimunated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator was faulty. The manufacturer was notified and did not want to honor the warranty because there were 180 amps on the alternator. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 95,000.

49 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Charger. While attempting to start the vehicle, the battery saver power mode engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator and battery failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,515.

50 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2016

As I pulled out of the parking lot of my job, I got a message on my dashboard saying "battery saver mode" and the symbols of abs and the electrical stability control icons lit up. I then heard a strange noise as if the car was in the wrong gear. I tried to make a call with my bluetooth hands free and then it stopped working. After driving a mile, I pulled over to a gas station and called the dealership service dept. I explained the symbols that were on and the noises. I was assured the warnings lights were just a caution and I wouldn't have to worry about my car breaking down if I wanted to bring my car to the service dept. After ending my call, my ac went out and then my car shut off. I had no power and had to call a towing company to haul my car to the dealer. I was only able to drop it off as they were closing for the day but I noticed there was a recall describing the same thing that just happened to me. After researching recalls for my vehicle, I noticed the same problem as the recalled 160 amp alternator (p60 recall). This issue is still occurring with more than just what Chrysler is reporting. My vehicle is an 180 amp alternator and meets the same risks listed for a recall.

51 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2016

Was driving down the highway and smelled an odor similar to electrical burning. Indicators appeared for low battery/save battery mode in the dash. Took car to advanced auto and while testing battery, white smoke was billowing from near engine. Mechanic repaired bad alternator which was the problem. Called Chrysler dealership after seeing recall on 2013 Dodge Chargers but my specific car was not included on the recall. Car had approximately 60,000 miles at time of incident.

52 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2016

Vehicle will state "battery saver mode" and start a high pitched whirring nose. At this point the alternator will either get stuck or short and will begin to overheat followed by a drained batter and stalling of the car. In my instance I had been driving the car on a city street when the message stating "battery saver mode" turned on then started turning off and on the radio, signaling low battery, abs active with them turning on an off before the high pitched sound began from the engine. I drove 2 blocks to my job parked and smoke billowed from under the hood directly from the alternator. I turned off the car and allowed it the smoking to stop. Once it was off I noticed all power in the car was drained and it would not turn on in any way or even open the trunk. It was towed to a mechanic who confirmed an issue with the alternator and had to replace it with a 180amp alternator to solve the issue.

53 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2016

When driving all of a sudden the battery light came on. All the other lights start flashing and loosing power. Was able to park in a parking lot. The car shut down. I was told at the part store the battery was good but low probably because the alternator or left lights on in car. I charge battery and drove home about 3 mins away. Smoke was comming from under the hood. It was comming from my alternater. A day ealier it smell like acid and it was skipping a little bit. I thought it was time for a tune up.

54 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2016

I had a prior issue with my 2013 Dodge Charger when my mother was driving my car and the alternator went on it and it became very difficult for her to turn the car considering she is a tiny woman. I contacted the NHTSA and I want to say something was done about it because a month later my Charger had a recall for the alternator. The problem with this is that it is happening again, the only thing is this time I was driving the car but it was still a little difficult to control a 5000 pound car with no power steering because the alternator is gone on it. I replaced my battery and I know it is not that. The car is basically new and I shouldn't be having these issues and it is also dangerous because you never know when a car is going to just shut off on you in the middle of the hight, or rush hour traffic, anywhere that it can be dangerous to control the vehicle. I sent Dodge and email tonight, hoping to get an answer back within a few days, but for the most part right now I will have to take an uber to work or where ever I need to go. But this is an inconvenience to a lot of owners because I have read a lot of bad reviews on the alternator for this car. If they are replacing the alternators with the same first one they used, it makes no sense because it is just going to have the same problems.

55 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2016

My Dodge Charger hemi 5. 7 road and track has less than 15,000 miles on it. We took it to dealership to have several recall repairs done. Drove car home, it sat in garage for maybe 3 days, went to start the car, evic was white and car would not start. Tried to start next day and none of the lights would even come on, totally dead. Used jumper cables on it, still will not start. Had to let the good car stay running and revving the engine off and on for almost 20 minutes, while trying to start the Charger several times, the lights and evic came on but would not start. The next day, tried jumping again same as above, let good car run for about another 15-20 minutes, car started, check engine light is on. Drove Charger to autozone and left running, had someone come out and put a meter on the + and - terminals and was told the alternator is bad, not charging the battery. Afraid to drive because I understand that the car could suddenly just die while driving it. That certainly would not be safe. We will be taking the car back to a dealership for the latest recall for the engine timing chain and chain guide issue. This alternator is the 180-amp alternator. With less than 15,000 miles this should not have happened. We will be letting Dodge know how disappointed we are that they have not included this 5. 7l engine and alternator in the recall they have done for the 6-cylinder engine, as I have researched it and have found that there have been many consumers with the same issue on their 5. 7l Chargers.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the dealer (anderson Toyota, 6510 showplace Ave, lake havasu city, az 86404, (928) 764-2886) failed to mention that there were five manufacturer recalls on the vehicle before the vehicle was sold. The dealer (anderson Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, 3920 az-95, lake havasu city, az 86404, (928) 764-5153) was unable to determine when the manufacturer would be able to provide the remedy and repair parts for the recalls. In addition, when using the car jack, it was structurally unable to hold the weight of the vehicle and would collapse to the ground without warning. The manufacturer recalls were for the air bags, power train, and electrical system (alternator assembly). The manufacturer provided case number: 32367806 and indicated that they would follow-up with the contact. The contact was informed that there was currently no repair solution; however, the manufacturer presented the option of a buy back. The contact was waiting an extended period of time to determine recourse. The NHTSA campaign numbers were unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

59 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2016

A recall was sent out for the alternator, I tried several attempts to get the work done and they never had the part. Recently I was out driving the car and it shutoff and all the lights on the inside and outside of the car began to flash on and off constantly. I had to call the tow truck to have it towed to the dealership because it was inoperable. Once the dealership did their diagnosis they notified me and told me it was the alternator and it caused the battery to die. He told me that he was going to take care of the alternator but I had to come out of the pocket for the battery. I explained to him that the battery died due to the bad alternator and he stated that he does not know that still insisting that I pay for the battery. I called for two days straight trying to contact the service manager but no one ever contacted me. Therefore I'm reaching out to your company to find out is it fair that I have to pay for a battery that died due to the alternator going out. The car lights continued to flash and the gauges continued to go in all different directions even when the tow company towed the car. The battery that was in the car was purchased directly from Dodge less than 2 years ago. Can someone please assist me?.

65 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2015

2013 Dodge Charger 50000 miles just driving down the road and I start hearing a whining sound I never heard before then 10 minutes later a message pops up and says my car is in battery saver mode. Alternator went out suddenly with no warning the same that happens with the v6 models but crysler only recalled v6 models not v8. Thankfully my dad who had the exact same problem with his 2013 v8 crysler 300 warned me to park before I damaged my battery or my car stall on the side of the road like his did 4 months ago. It is irresponsible for crysler to only do a recall that covers half the cars that is affected with these bad alternators.
