My steering wheel when turning left or right is becoming difficult to turn and makes squealing noise when turned. When brought to the dealership it was told to me that nothing was coming up wrong with the steering on the cpu. I was told I would have to wait until the steering pump goes to make any fixes. After research many of other 2014 Dodge Charger users have had issues with their steering wheel completely locking or losing any control of the steering while driving at high speeds.
My powersteering pump and alternator went out on my 2014 while I was driving thank god know accident occurred had it tow to the dealership they put both parts brand new 10 days later it gone back out had to have it tow back to the dealership.
I was driving down the city street and as I went to turn the corner the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. It took all my strength and careful braking not to hit the car in the oncoming lane of traffic. I immediately took to a certified mechanic and they tell me the power steering pump is out. After doing a quick search online I find that this is a fairly common issue. It is so common of an issue that Dodge is in short supply of new power steering pumps with only like 3 in the state of florida at the time of this writing.
Driving down the road at 58 mph and power steering went complety out! no warning at all! dash lights went crazy. Warning lights: service shifter, service power steering, auto park disabled, check engine, then dash lights started blacking completely out. Very dangerous! I took to my mechanic and he says that the power steering pump has been fired. After reading the altenator recall, thia explained everything that happened! all recalls have been fixed on this vehicle. After contacting local dealerships I learned that there are 89 people just in my area needing this same pump and it is on back order. This tells me that there is a huge problem. This is extremely dangerous! now $1800 to fix an issue that never should have happened with altenator recall completed. I now have a car that I am still paying for, cant drive, cant afford to fix, and wont sell to someone else knowing how dangerous this is. Please investigate this issue. I cant imagine that with all of the complaints I have seen that this is not an all consuming issue and puts many lives at risk.
The vehicle when I purchased it 3 months ago has pretty low mileage and $79,000 on it well I noticed the whole time I heard a creaking sounding when I would turn the tires and then when I went to georgia because I live in tennessee for christmas and by the time I got back to tennessee I couldn't even turn my wheel and I guess the fuel pump went out in it but it's a new car and it's been taken really good care of I'm just wondering why the pump went out on it so fast when I was driving so fast I could wrecked and everything.
Power steering pump all of a sudden, just went out. Luckily I was parking my car at home.
Alternator recall that matches exact issue, make (Dodge), model (charger), year (2014), and engine size of car (3. 6l v6). Alternator malfunction caused short circuit of hydro-electric power steering pump. Indicator lights began to flash and car would begin to stall while in operation until eventually dying completely. Alerted that VIN number was not part of the recall and had to have all work done at local mechanic.
Power steering pump has devoloped a leak. 65,000 miles. Pumps are on backorder making it appear to be a very common issue. Driving on highways is fine. Makes for steering at slow speeds in parking lots communities etc very difficult.
Power steering goes out completely without warning , wasn't out of fluid completely but added some and went out again after , car was inspected and nothing is wrong with the pump or reservoir and shouldn't go out . It goes out while driving down the road then comes back on , does not make any noises or anything else , cannot turn and randomly comes on and off while driving.
I was sitting in my car in front of my house . I went to start the car then my dashboard was blinking with engine light ,battery light and brake light . Then suddenly I seen "service power steering " my wheel was extremely hard to turn . I took it up to the stealers to tell me it's a electrical pump issue that will cost me 2,000 dollars. This electrical issue came out of no where . After I reading different consumers testimony , I noticed this has been an ongoing issue with their steering pump . If I was out on the road and my steering where stopped on me , I could've been died . It should be a law suit filed on them . I would not recommend anyone to ever purchase anything from Dodge.
I have been working with fca since 8/31/16, so for 28 days now, that I have been without power steering. I filed my first complaint on, or around 9/12/16. I experienced the exact same symptoms as stated in NHTSA pe14022 while driving down the highway at apporximately 65mph. Every warning light went off flashing, service transmission message, service power steering , and tach, and speedo would drop to zero , and I would lose engine power, and power steering. I captured the incident on video, and provided the video to NHTSA, I will again provide a link for the video here : https://youtu. Be/e96hvqpep10 . In dealing with fca llc, they refuse to replace the electric hydraulic power steering pump that was fried from this incident occuring. Fca is saying that it was the "2 year old mopar battery" that caused the incident, and refuse to replace the ehps pump that worked perfectly fine before this occured. I replaced the alternator per NHTSA recall no. 14v-634 a great deal of time prior to this incident occuring. Fca is trying to circumvent having to replace the pump by changing the origin of the means to the battery, instead of the alternator. I have been extremely frustrated with how fca refuses to acknowledge all of the proof given to them. I am not alone in this, there had been many complaints filed with similar results as mine in dealing with fca. It's time for NHTSA to do something to remedy this issue with fca. Fca offered to replace the $1400 ehps pump if I pay a $500 CO-pay, I refuse to accept this offer based on the principle of the matter. The true origin of all of the issue's I'm currently having, is from the original alternator that was in the car for a year and a half initially, and during that time it was improperly charging the battery that possibly caused the battery to ultimately fail on 8/31/16. Please see attached files. Failure mileage 81332.
