One problem related to air conditioner has been reported for the 1996 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The air conditioner compressor has failed--I feel that this must be a defective part for this to breakdown at the age of the vehicle and mileage. I have not heard of an air compressor breaking down at such low milage and age of vehicle.
