Three problems related to headlight switch have been reported for the 1997 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Headlights keep failing. Have changed headlight switch several times, but fails again. Transmission won't shift into overdrive. Cruise control is difficult to activate. Sometimes transmission won't shift from 2nd to 3rd gear.
The headlight switch handle came off, which resulted in the tail lights not working.
Headlight switch broke internally and started to spark while turning it on. Dealer was notified. Consumer stated that switch would sometimes turn lights on by itself when driving.
