Ten problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1998 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
A few months ago consumer was having problems with brakes. Consumer took vehicle into dealership, and dealer serviced brakes on 23rd of February, 2001. Consumer had an accident, and brakes did not work as good as they should have worked. Consumer states there were 3 fatalaties and 1 injury.
While driving stepped on brakes pedal but brakes would not activate. Would have to step harder to make brakes work. But, at times could not stop, and once rear ended another vehicle that stopped. Currently, there was manufacturer's recall 891.
While driving at 35 mph and coming to a stop sign, consumer tried to stop and there were no brakes, almost hit a dump truck, consumer stopped with emergency brake.

Recall 97v170 000/abs brakes: abs brakes would not operate when applied. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under recall due to VIN. Owner repaired vehicle himself by manually adjusting the brakes. Neither Chrysler nor dealer provided help.
Vehicle has experienced continued grinding and brake fading, brake fading has resulting in three separate accident incidents, severl repair attempts however, vehicle continues to experience problems with system.
On the interstate while driving 70mph another vehicle just pulled out in front of consumer's vehicle. Consumer slammed on the brakes and front end shook violently. Also, steering wheel oscilated the brake pedal which had a severe pulse. Contacted the dealer and manufacturer.
Recall 97v170000, the abs braking system recall which was not modified to this vehicle. Problem with abs system, such as pedal goes to to floor and feels spongy. Dealer had to bleed out the air in the lines of the abs system. No parts have been replaced. Please provide further information.
Driving on bumpy road conditions, the car in front made a sudden stop, consumer applied foot to the brake pedal, but had no braking power and the pedal went to the floor. Consumer avoided hitting the vehicle and hit a pole.
