One problem related to tailgate latch has been reported for the 1998 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
A wheel chair slid back and hit the tail gate, causing it to open with the consumer's property falling onto the road, consumer feels this is a safety issue considering there was no damage to the gate or to the latch of the door and there was less than 600 pounds of unrestrained material, which according to the owners manual is a safe amount of weight.
