Four problems related to steering rack and pinion have been reported for the 2000 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving at highway speed steering rack and pinion failed, causing the vehicle to pull to the left, and resulting in a collision. Consumer had the vehicle towed. Dealership will be notified.
While driving steering wheel jumped on its on. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and took it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the rack and pinion steering and upper ball joint needed to be replaced.
Consumer states while driving approx 45 mph vehicle's power steering failed w/o warning. Checked by dlr who advised rack and pinion failed. Mr.
Vehicle is experiencing slack in the steering column. Also, there is a problem with the rack and pinion steering. Right side of the vehicle is causing the tires to wear unevenly. There is a rattling and squeaking noise in the front right side.
