Two problems related to wheel have been reported for the 2001 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge ram quad cab. While driving approximately 45 mph the drivers side wheel studs broke off causing the rim and tire to come off. The failure caused damage to the fender, door and the bed of the truck. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic replaced the rotors, tie rod ends, a caliper, track bar and wheel studs on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a body shop for the fender,the cab corner and the truck bed to be repaired. The failure happened again on December 13, 2010. The passenger side wheel studs broke off again causing damage to the rotors, tie rod end, track bar and wheel studs. The vehicle was towed back to the same mechanic who replaced the rotors, tie rod end, track bar, wheel studs and aligned the vehicle. The contact had not contacted the manufacturer. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 132,000.
Wheel sheared off completely from the hub while driving. No one was able to offer any explanation as to how the wheel could have separated from the hub. Consumer felt Chrysler should have covered the $398. 41 repair bill.
