My 2002 Dodge Dakota sometime will not go into park. Other times it will jump out and go into reverse. This has caused my vehicle to roll backwards and destroyed neighbors mailbox. To get it into park takes several tries. I now must use my parking brake anytime I am parked.
Bought truck in 2009. Drive a couple times a week. Transmission has went out 5 times now including this morning. Was told by a coworker that theres ab issue with the Dodgers not circulating fluid when idling in gear. ??? either way this will be the 5th time in 10 years taking it to get rebuilt!!!! which has been 2,500. 00 to 4,000. 00 each time!!! really bout to give up on Dodge.
The car goes into park, but park does not engage. I'm able to remove the key. The column shows park but the car continues to roll. I see that 2002 Dakotas have a recall for this problem but my VIN # doesn't show a recall for this problem.
Recall g38 / the trans shifter started to not go into park at times and then slip out now it will not go into park at all. . Shifter stops at reverse and I have looked at shifter ajustment and no problem there, the recall said it did not apply to my VIN . But I am having same problems listed as the recall state's other's have , did I miss something and iam in recall added later?.

2002 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab has a surging problem at highway speed. The check engine light will come on and it is read as transmission fluid pressure sensor. This was replaced with a factory sensor and within 2 weeks it did it again. After 200 miles the light went out and the surging stopped only to start and stop repeatedly up to this date, 8/23/2010. How can a sensor repair itself? impossible! mileage at first check engine light was less than 100,000. Also dash is cracked to a completely unacceptable level for the age of the vehicle and mileage on dash at 138,000 with care taken to keep it clean and conditioned. Cracks began at 85,000 miles. Wipers when operating on high will lower speed and will continue to change from high to low intermittently unless they are turned off and turned back on several times. Do not consider this safe in any way. Intermittent wiper use with delay feature seems to be completely okay. Air conditioner will only blow cold air on driver's side and blows warm air on passenger side. After 45 minutes of a/c use, roaring sound issues from the vents and a gradual decrease in all air begins until only wisps of air escapes from driver side vents.
Excessive stoplamp failures, replaced lamps due to melting of base repeatedly,4th time in 8 mos. No service kit or upgrades available, check chevy, same tail light board set-up, same problems, perhaps they have a bulletin on problem? severe shaking under braking, started at 15k miles, servicer refuses to cover under warranty (12k warranty), have found numerous issues with these rotors. Severe shaking on sweeping right hand freeway turns, presently scheduled for service at antioch/delta Dodge. Engine intermittently stalling, unable to duplicate problem when in for service, not noted on service tickets. Independent front end leakage, presently scheduled for service at antioch/delta Dodge. This my 3rd Dodge truck since 1996, 1st one was great, 2nd had repeated rearend issues, 3rd seems to be having excessive issues across the spectrum of components, I would like help in resolving these issues, as presently I still view Dodge as the leader in customer satisfaction.
Consumer wanted transmission replaced. Nothing happened when the vehicle was placed in park and back into drive, the vehicle went from reverse to drive and the vehicle stalled, placed in park, then restarted.
Truck had problems of switicng into 2nd while driving at 70mph plus. Had it looked at three times. In April the transnission went. The reverse gear blew up and blew into the case and aslo runined the radiator. Thanks Dodge !!.
Consumer states that the odometer reads lower than the vehicle is moving, causing the driver to go faster . Ts.
