Driving vehicle, turned on seat warmers, back started getting very warm and a terrible smell. Pulled off to side of road, got out, smoke coming from seat and two burn holes in fabric.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Dakota. While driving 10 mph on a muddy road, the contact swerved and crashed into a tree. The vehicle caught fire immediately. The insurance company is investigating the crash and believes the fire was due to an unspecified failure. The manufacturer will be notified. The contact received burns to the arms and legs. The VIN and mileages were unknown.
Driver's side view mirror (manually operated)frozen in position. Attempts to adjust resulted in cracked mirror glass.
At speeds between 55 - 75 intermitantly the truck will begin to vibrate. If you take your foot off the gas it gets worse. If you then apply the brakes the steering wheel begins to shake almost violently, and the brake petal pulses. If I slow down to about 30 mph it stops and may happen again quickly or may not happen again for a while. I have had the truck to the dealership 3 or 4 times and they state they can not duplicate problem. I have replaced the front ball joints, front wheel bearings 3 times and recently put on the 3 set of brakes and rotors all on advise from Dodge dealership. Problem still exists. Very unsafe. Hard to control the truck. I no longer drive the truck on the highway. Have called Dodge chryslar and they state to take the truck to the dealership. I get the run around and sent on my way. As for at date of incident, this happens frequently. I just picked a date.
Upon the return of my 2002 Dodge Dakota quad cab from dealer service, I noticed what looked like a spot of gray spray paint on the front passenger fender. Thinking that someone had accidentally oversprayed something while the vehicle was nearby, I 'let it go'. About two weeks later, I noticed that the spot had grown from the original size (about the size of a quarter) to about three inches across. Thinking that perhaps I was 'seeing things', again, I let it go. However, two more weeks passed when I started noticing the same gray color appearing the entire length of the passenger side front fender and beginning to show on the driver side front fender as well. I telephoned the dealer and was told that paint / finishes were not warranty items, and even if it had been a warranty item, my warranty had expired (note: mileage was approximately 38,000 miles at the time). I contacted daimler-Chrysler online customer support regarding the issue, and was told that they could not help me because they couldn't physically inspect the vehicle. Some time later, I took the vehicle in to the dealership for a different repair, but did mention the fading paint. I was told then that I would have to take the vehicle to a dealership that had body/paint facilities and have them look at it. (note: I was not told that when I called about the paint the first time. ) I took the vehicle to a dealership with a body/paint facility. I was told that the 'brutal texas sun' was the culprit - causing my paint to fade. (note: my 1996 Geo prizm and 2000 kia optima are subjected to the same brutal texas sun, but show no signs of fading paint. ) I was told that my case could be submitted for consideration, but not to expect a positive result. As expected, those with authority to approve a repair denied it. Again, I contacted daimler-Chrysler online customer support expressing my dissatisfaction with the quality of the paint, and the lack of support during the ordeal.
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota sport. The color is solar yellow. In late April of this year, I noticed that my clear coat was starting to peel and it was turning white in other sections of my truck. I took it into a Dodge dealer which told me that the clear coat is too thin on all panels. He contacted Chrysler to let them know what was wrong, and they denied to fix it since it is out of warranty. So I wrote them a letter asking them to reconsider since it wasn't my fault that the clear coat was too thin on the whole vehicle. They have informed me that it is out of warranty.
Contact states: put a set of upper ball joints on vehicle but he thought it was all of the ball joints and they just put the upper ball joints and contact states he needed lower ball joints as well.
Clear coat on paint is flaking off of truck on the hood, top of cab, top of tailgate and bed of truck. This has been explained to me that the result of this is because Dodge did not allow the paint to dry before continuing assembly.
I purchaced in March 2004 a used 2000 Dodge Dakota quad cab with 71,000 miles. With in the first month the right rear window regulator needed to be replaced. In July '04 the right front door regulator went out that needed to be replaced. In sept '04 the left rear window went bad. In may 2005 the left front door regulator went out. I find it hard to believe there is no recall on any of these regulators. Even thou its a 2000 and in good shape. The dealer informs me no recalls. I have researched on line for any information to confirm this? no luck. I'm very frusterated as a Dodge owner. There has to be some information some where to support all these problems happing with in the first year.
On December 19, I was getting my tires rotated on my 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab 2wd at my local mechanic. Having heard about the ball joint issue the night before on the news, I had him check my ball joints to see if they were any good. He said "don't take any left turns!" I immediately called my dealer because I only have 35,000 miles on the truck. On Tuesday December 23, 2003, my local Dodge dealership replaced the upper right ball joint.
Paint on top of cab is pealing. Dodge told me that they would pay 50% of $400. 00 I feel that this is wrong. They also said that this is a rare problem. Almost all Dakota have this problem. This is a bold lie. I would like to fight this.
Paint delamination.
I bought a 2000 Dodge Dakota extended cab sle model. It now has about 50,000 miles on it. The truck has been regularly washed and waxed but is not garaged. It is black with a gray lower body panel. Several large white discolorations have appeared on the roof of the truck. No amount of washing waxing or polishing compound has any effect on these white spots. They seem to be a defect in the clear coat. I have seen at least one other black Dakota of the same vintage with the same problem. These were first noticed several months ago.
1. Year old truck no wrecks 2. Something leaking, wet carpet on passenger side from day one. 3. They replace back window seal but leak still occurs.
Primer becoming visible through paint on roof of truck.
Consumer started vehicle and retrieved some items from the interior cabin. Consumer saw a flash and then smelled a "burning" odor. Lighting had struck the steel antenna. The same incident occurred with the consumer's 1997 Dodge caravan. Consumer believed the antenna was defective.
Transfer case leaks fluid on output shaft seal. First repair attempt replaced seal. Second attempt at 2531 miles replaced seal again. Third attempt at 2909 miles replaced extension housing on transfer case. Extension came with new seal already installed. Fourth attempt at 6,745 miles replaced extension housing again also new yoke and checked balance in driveline.

Paint on roof and hood is disappearing, making the truck look horrible.
Mr.
Sensor for speed controll above 15 miles per hour not working, causing engine check light to stay on. Truck hesitates to change into gear when speed above that is trying to be reached. Would like to know if there is a recall or factory warranty on this part and to find out where it is located on the vehicle and if it can be put on and reset without being taken to the dealer?.
Air bags did not deploy in front end collision.
Vehilce has been taken back 3 times. Dealer advised on purchase date that engine light represented minor problem that they fixed.
Engine--check engine light came on and stays on.
Intrument cluster--speedometer, gas tank gauge.
Problem only occurs when driving freeway speeds over bumps or holes in the road. The truck comes down and pulls to the right then compensates by pulling to the left. I feel this is a hazard due to sometimes it is so severe I feel like my truck will end up in another lane. I have taken it to Dodge in oakland, CA. Three times and they have looked at the front and rear suspension, stabilizing bar, shocks, and tell me this is the best my truck is going to get. I have made a complaint to the corp office and I am suposed to hear from the regional manager for a test drive with him. I am afraid that I won't be able to reproduce the problem since it does not happen on all bumps or holes in the road. I also feel this is a hazard since I never know when it will react to a road surface. I have many people who tell me this is not normal behavior of a new truck on a highway.
Instrument panel is not visible when headlights in use during daylight hours.
