general problems of the 2016 Dodge Dart - part 1

The transmission shift cable on the vehicle may fail to maintain its connection to the transmission. According to the manufacturer’s safety notice, this defect results in an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of park function. The manufacturer has acknowledged that this condition can lead to unintended vehicle movement in an unintended direction, even when the shifter indicates the vehicle is in "park. " this creates an immediate risk of a vehicle crash without prior warning and poses a severe threat of injury to the driver, passengers, and bystanders outside the vehicle. The manufacturer issued the safety notice on March 8, 2026, but stated that a remedy is "not currently available. " as of may 12, 2026 (over 60 days later), the manufacturer has failed to provide a timeline for the repair, failed to respond to formal written inquiries regarding a safety remedy, and has not provided interim safety measures or alternative transportation. The vehicle remains an active safety hazard that cannot be safely parked or operated.

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving a 2016 Dodge Dart gt (VIN: [xxx] ). The selling dealership represented the vehicle as accident?free and undamaged, but after delivery I discovered significant, undisclosed front?end and structural issues. The affected components include the front bumper, radiator support area, subframe, suspension, brakes, and cooling system. These components are available for inspection. My safety was put at risk because the vehicle shows clear evidence of prior impact and improper or incomplete repairs. A mechanic’s inspection documented a salvage?yard front subframe installed for unknown reasons, a leaking lower radiator hose, rusted struts and shocks, suspension bushings beginning to fail, a bent left?rear lower control arm, and brakes that “feel like they don’t want to stop the vehicle,” possibly due to rusted rotors and pads. The mechanic also noted alarming rust inside the frame and stated that the rust alone would justify returning the vehicle. All four tires show high/low spots consistent with belt separation, creating a wobble at speed. These conditions create multiple safety hazards: compromised crash protection, potential airbag sensor misalignment from prior front?end impact, cooling?system failure risk, loss of braking ability, suspension instability, and possible loss of control due to tire belt separation. The carfax also shows a radiator replacement shortly before sale, strongly suggesting a front?end collision that was not disclosed. The problem was confirmed by an independent service center. The manufacturer, police, and insurance have not yet inspected the vehicle. No warning lamps appeared prior to discovering these issues; the defects were concealed and unknown to me at purchase. I unknowingly operated a vehicle with compromised structural integrity and multiple safety?critical defects, placing me and other drivers at risk. I received a safety recall on my vehicle in October, and it is now almost February and there is still no remedy. This safety recall is the transmission shift cable a0c. The recall states: "this can cause an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of park function and/or vehicle movement in an unintended direction which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside the vehicle. " this is putting myself and others at risk. The dealership has confirmed the issue and has no remedy. They informed me to wait for the remedy. My vehicle has been developing the symptoms of this recall for about 3 years. The key gets stuck in the ignition, the car does not go into or out of park easily, it sticks. After I park my car rolls backwards. My vehicle does not feel like its in park. The shifter has become stiff and does not want to move. The form says " do not drive" on mopars official recall. I do not feel safe driving this car.

The shifter cable on my car has completely worn out so the gear box no longer shifts correctly. I took it to my local dealership, watsonville Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, in watsonville California and they said the remedy is not yet available. They also are trying to charge me $800 something dollars for a “temporary fix” and I can maybe apply for reimbursement.

Unknown. When trying to switch gears from reverse to drive, the gear got stuck in neutral. My gear shift is able to move when pressing on the brake as it is intended to do. However, the actual gear does not change and on the dashboard and the light display from the gear shift still shows "n" for neutral. My brake lights are still working and the solenoid still clicks when pressing on brake. I was able to shift gears manually from underneath the hood. I did a complete complete reset and still the gears do not change. My e-brake is on and the car has not moved due to not being able to shift gears. This has never happened before and there have been no problems with my steering wheel, brakes or gear shift before. There were/are no warning messages or displays. Even though, there is a recall, dealerships have told me that there is nothing wrong with my car and there are no recalls at all. I am currently looking for a mobile mechanic since my car is unable to move. My car has not been seen yet.

Shifting shaft linkage shaft bushing shaft stuck in park won’t shift anymore shaft moves but won’t come out of park.

Open recall for transmission shift cable failure since October 9, 2025 with no available fix/parts yet. This is my 20 year old's vehicle and we feel this is extremely unsafe and are requesting a manufacturer buy-back immediately.

My shifter cable snapped while driving home from work. Found out about the recall trying to get it fixed.

The shifter cable. It is not available for inspection at no cost through any dealership I have contacted through the fca. This can cause an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of park function and/or vehicle movement in an unintended direction which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning and/or injury to others outside of the vehicle. I received a letter notification of this recall a0c/NHTSA 25v-674, which applies to my vehicle. Dodge stated that the remedy for this condition is not currently available. The vehicle has not been inspected after the recall was issued. There were no warnings, messages or any symptoms.

I had the recall for the transmission bushing shifter cable fixed at greenway Dodge. Clearly still a defective piece. It broke again… they’re trying to charge me $850+ to fix it again. I can’t afford that for this car that’s been nothing but a lemon. Why should I have to pay for a repeatedly defective part? it’s wrong.

On 9/25/2025, I was on my way home from the grocery store, stopped off in a different section of my condo complex to check the mail. I attempted to place the car in park. The handle moved forward but the gears did not shift. I still had my foot on the brakes and put on my the emergency brakes on. I contacted aaa, paid the $100 so aaa could tow the car in front of my property. It was still very hot outside and I did not want the food I just brought to spoil so I took most of the perishable food that I could carry to my home. Once I put all the food away in the fridge the porter knocked on my door telling me that I could not leave my car near the mailboxes. I let him know I had already contacted aaa and was waiting for them to arrive. Well the porter immediately had my car towed before aaa could get there. My car was towed and is still in the tow company’s possession.

Today, 7-12-25, I tried to place my 2016 Dodge Dart in park. The car would not go into park, and I could not get the key out after trying to turn it off. The shifter would not go into drive, and was stuck in reverse. I had the car repaired for a recall on the shifter cable bushing at my local Dodge dealer a few years back, and now it's doing the same thing it was prior to the recall. Car is now stuck in a parking lot.

The backup camera constantly fails. The possibility of a blackout screen due to the poor connection to the camera keep increasing.

Since my purchase of this vehicle over two years ago, I have consistently had problems with the card shutting off while driving. It has happened no less than six times, two within the last week. Each time I have been fortunate enough to get the car to the side of the road, restart it and then continue with no immediate shut down. My local dealer has tried without success, to pinpoint the problem, but since no codes show up, they are at a loss as to what the problem may be. My grandfather, who is writing this for me, has found a number of similar complaints with Darts of various years and models. The issue is never resolved by the dealerships and the manufacturer has no known service bulletins on file. We are not sure of any accidents, but a car shutting off without advanced notice and no viable reason for the loss of power looks like a serious safety issue just waiting to claim one or more lives. The insurance company was told, but they won't do anything. If I have an accident I will probably be at fault, especially if I am blocking another vehicle's right of way. I need guidance on what legal recourse, if any that I have. The vehicle does not qualify for the PA lemon laws since it was purchased as a new vehicle from the dealer. Please let us know what we can do short of junking an obvious safety hazard that I still owe $13,000 in a car loan. Thank you. David and alexandra abruzzi.

After coming back from getting lunch, I pulled in the parking spot and started to park. I put the gear in park, but it was showing that the car was in neutral. I let my feet off the brake to see if it was an error, but it started moving backwards. The key would not come out of the ignition as well.

Emissions recall u90 catalyst efficiency this recall was never addressed on my Dodge Dart.

The car battery keeps dying even though it's a new battery. Alternator isn't the problem either. A bunch of blown fuses relating to the starting of the car. Around the time this issue started the computer also had an issue and we can no longer connect to bluetooth and the odometer is blinking.

The car stops unexpectedly. It smoked the other day. I don't know what fuel. The gas cap says 85 but the dealer never told me this. The lighting and inside above. Falls out like it has been tampered with. It doesn't run properly. Sometimes it just stops and won't stop. Like it's a bate car. Used by cops. But I wasn't informed when I was sold the car.

The vehicle got too hot, almost all the electric system of the car had very little energy and blinked, the air conditioning takes a long time to work either to defog the windows, heat or cool. The radio is not working properly. Lights are not level. Emergency equipment is missing as well as an emergency repair tire. And also when I am driving it accelerates and brakes automatically and suddenly. Since I bought this car it has given me many mechanical problems.

I have had this car for 2 years now and it just now started jerking while driving it. It does this in any gear or in park while the car is on. It almost feels like it wants to cut off or maybe transmission problems but I have taken the car to the mechanic and they used their code reader and can not find out whats wrong with the car. . I have got a oil change and used a gas treatment on it so far its still jerking while I drive. I am worried this could lead to more issues or even cut off on me while I am driving. I use this car everyday for work and my family as we only have 1 car. This happens at stop signs/lights and while driving anywhere. This started about two weeks ago.

A while back vehicle taken into local dealer for two isolated incidents of vehicle rolling when coming to a stop regardless of the speed (dealership kept vehicle trying to recreate issue unsuccessful as for nothing wrong appeared and no codes had registered. ) then yesterday 7/2/2020 sudden while driving on city streets and coming to a complete stop, notification appeared, saying, "engage park brake to prevent from rolling. " vehicle was continued to be in used in city until parked for a period of about and hour after first notification. Engine was started yet vehicle would not change into any gear and began to roll while parked at a local business.

Driving my Dodge Dart on the freeway and it staled out almost caused me to get in a car accident this happed on the freeway to me more then once took it in to dealership and now they are telling me I need my engine replaced I did the best care of the Dart all the oil changes and everything were always done to a t Dodge saying it will cost 8000. 00 to get a new engine only had the Dodge Dart 2016 for 2 years had to get it towed.

The car suddenly loses all power at random times. Has happend when driving and when at a full stop and has happened multiple times over the 2. 5 years we owned the car. The car can be turned back on right away.

When backing out of my driveway the touchscreen went completely black. After finishing backing up got into the main road, the screen stayed black for a minute. When I went to the store I was headed to, I turned off the car of course, when I came back to start it, it was back to no normal. When it goes black I cannot control the air or the heat since all that is in the screen. I have read several threads about this and the same thing has happened and some people have to replace the screen and it still doesn't help. I tried contacting Dodge online they just tell me take it to the dealer. Note this doesn't happen all the time on mine so it's hard to take a video/picture because you don't know when it's gonna happen again since it's at a random time. I seen some other vehicles online with this type of screen has been on recalled and fixed. At this moment I'm looking into another vehicle that can be dependable with the air or heat and where and how much it blows along with the temperature. I have 2 kids that can't get hot in the summer or freezing in the winter due to not having control over this issue.

While I was slowing down to almost a complete stop to idling, my car stalled. It has happened a few times now. I am scared, I usually have my young children in the car with me.

The turn indicator stalk/lever in my car is broken. It is a multi-task lever due to the fact that it controls my windshield wipers, window cleaner, and enables me to switch my lights from dim to bright. The lever now falls and calls my turning lights to blink continuously while I'm driving as well as cause the bright lights to just pop up when I'm driving behind someone at night. I feel that this can be a danger to anyone because they can think someone is turning and keep going, or can be blinded by the bright lights switching on and off. I contacted the dealership about the issue and they stated that there is a backorder on the part and that 150 people were ahead of me with the same issue. I am unable to get the part until mid-February, but the dealership stated that it could be pushed back farther than that. I asked for something so if I was pulled over by the police about the issue with my lights, I would have something covering me. They refused to give me anything stating that there was a back-order on the part.

Reverse camera malfunction shows upside down and flashes in and out of frame.

Vehicle in motion. Clutch stuck to floor on highway. Almost hit another vehicle because of the malfunction. Took to a repair facility where they said it is a very common problem with Darts. I am now having the whole clutch system replaced and they just called me to tell me the flywheel etc is very bad.

There is a recall on my current Dodge Dart my vehicle has been out of service since August 8th 2019. I've tried calling your company for weeks now I was able to tow my vehicle to a Dodge dealer ship to confirm that the problem is based on the recall. There is still no solution to the issue and need to be able to get to and from work. I shouldn't have to pay for a rental when the issue is not on my fault its on yours . No one can offer me anything and the customer service is horrible no one has helped me figure out this issue. All I wamt is a rental for the time that it takes gor the dealer to have ordered the peice until my car can be fixed . I have been nothing but understanding and cooperative to the whole situation but I'm truly at my wits end.

Takata recall. I have a recall on my car called shifter cable bushing and I called Dodge dealer ship and they said all Dodge shops dont have the parts because once it becomes dangerous for you to drive they will then order the part and replace it. I was told at drive time where I bought the car that there is a recall for my car and all I had to do is call the dealership and get it replace. I havent noticed anything wrong with my car but this is a new car so I dont want anything bad to happen while I'm driving!.

I have 2016 Dodge Dart and the brake booster went out in it the same problem with a previous issue with recall brake pedal went hard and could not stop quickly while driving and was told by Dodge it did not fall under recall for being different year and would cost a lot of money to fix then the abs modular valve went out and locked the brake while driving the car is used to travel in the city during morning and evening commutes.

Car continues to stall in the mist of driving. My car has stalled on me in the middle of the highway twice this year while myself and daughter was in the vehicle barely getting hit by other vehicles. Something needs to be done. I pay too much for this car to have myself and child at risk everyday.

Takata recall. Got a notice my vehicle was in recall and would like to know what I need to do before something breaks or something bad happens! will company repair the issue on recall or replace the vehicle? I drive 60 miles 4 days out of the week so please get back to me ASAP!?!?!?!.
