I was just driving then out of nowhere. No warning no lights inmitted on dash no idea the engine will shut off. Replace alternator, battery,starter,3 pcm, still no luck. Noticed that pcm could have been the so that's why I went through 3 of em. New ,use ,and refurbish one. The dealership mechanic noticed that pcm would shut off and henced (no bus) would illuminate. Happened quite often scary part is that no warning of any source would appear on freeway residential anywhere. Engine will shut off while driving.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph the vehicle inadvertently stopped. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The contact replaced the battery and fuel pump, shocks, ball joints, and brake disc; in addition to the front roaders. The failure reoccurred. The local mechanic diagnosed no failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
One morning I was taking my 9-year-old daughter to school and our truck just stalled while I was driving. Thank allah that there was no heavy traffic and no one got hurt. That incident has my daughter scared. I took it to the mechanic they read the diagnostic fixed what codes came up and still my truck is not operating properly. The truck still stalls while driving the mechanic has informed me. I have had my iac, map sensor, tps, ignition coil, distributor, and canister purge valve replaced.
Shuts off engine when your driving for no apparent reason. The odometer has a no bus reading on it. This is very dangerous! thanks for any help.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. The failure recurred multiple times. The contact stated that the sensors were replaced (throttle position sensor, crankshaft, speed cam, aic, spark plug wires, rotors and distributor cup, distributor rotor, ignition coil, map sensor). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
Multiple times the truck has just died. Driving down the road no warning. The vehicle runs just fine and starts right back up. Yesterday this happened on the highway and almost caused a major accident. When it dies you loose all power steering and power brakes. It is dangerous and ive found numerous complaints online from Durango owners with the same problem.
You can be driving at any speed and all of a sudden everything shuts down and dash lites up no bus. You lose power steering and ability to control the vehicle. Look on internet Durango no bus and hundreds of posts come up with people with same problem. Car is not safe to drive and because my employment situation I do not have 1000's of dollars to replace computers and pcm's. This is dangerous and they should be recalled. There is a flaw! it can happen going 65mph or 35 mph. It has happened to us at least 10 times in a 2 week period. It is now parked in garage because of the danger. It could kill people.
I've held confidence in my 2000 Dodge Durango since I purchased it in 2003. In the summer of 2009, I was driving down a local road when suddenly the gauges on the dash board were not registering, the odometer read bus and the engine completely shut down in the middle of traffic. Since this occurred without warning, I did not have time to pull over to the side of the road. I turned on the caution blinkers. There were many cars blowing their horns, waiting behind me on this one lane road. After a couple of minutes the engine started and I was able to drive. I thought this was a one time only occurrence. I had no prior problems with the truck. A few days later, I was driving on the interstate during rush hour traffic and the truck suddenly shut off again. Omg, I was nervous, scared and really believed that I was going to die because someone would ram their vehicle into mine. What driver would suspect that my truck suddenly died while I was driving it? I thought about how I was going to get this vehicle safely to the side of the road without endangering my life and the life of other drivers. Luckily I did it. My husband tinkered with the computer and noticed that when he reposition the computer the engine would start again. But I refuse to drive it until we purchase another computer. The car repairman said, even if we purchased another computer he could not guarantee that the vehicle would not shut completely down. The computer is overheating due to the location that the manufacturers have chosen. I will get someone to design some sort of heat shield or something to prevent the computer from overheating. To replace my current computer will cost $1100. I think the car company should take responsibility for this flaw and recall the vehicle. I do not want someone to get killed due to their gross negligence. I am not the only Dodge Durango owner who is having this same problem. Please investigate this issue and get something done. Preventing just one death is enough.
Driving the car the engine began to knock and the car stopped on the road while driving and could have caused a serious accident. This involves loud engine knocking.
I had a 2000 Dodge Durango and after driving for about 15 minutes I turned on the air and a sulfar like smell came through the air system. After pulling over and cutting the car off, flames came from under the hood. The car burst into flames and burned completely up. Nothing was left but the metal frame. My insurance company couldn't give me any insight as to why this happened. I had about 133,000 miles on it. I wish I knew about this site before I lost my vehicle. I would've insisted that the dealership thoroughly check the car out before I ended up without a vehicle for 2 months.
While driving, the oil pressure dropped to zero and the truck shut-off, never to be started again. When I had it towed to a mechanic, they told me I had a "common" problem with these vehicles. That being, engine oil sludge. I had changed the oil as my manual requested and still ended up with this problem. I am now having to purchase a new engine if I wish to drive it again. I owe almost less than it would cost to buy the engine.
We have a 2000 Dodge Durango with a 5. 9 engine with over 82,000 miles the first time it happen we were going down the river to our cabin when it lost oil pressure, so we changed the oil with check the gauges. So now it happen again the oil pressure dropped again changed the oil the light came on check gauges after the oil was changed and it heated up this time but I did get it back home. So I decided to look up car complaints. Com 14 complaints was there about oil sludge. Hope something can be done this isn't right. Thanks so much.
Loss of oil pressure in a 2000 Dodge Durango 4. 7 liter engine.
My 2000 Dodge Durango's engine just seized up. The engine is not repairable and needs to be replaced at a cost of $4800. I have just over 110,000 miles. In the summer my timing chain went and now in Feb my engine seized up while driving. There were no warning signs or oil lights. Oil was changed as recommended by the owners manual. I have seen a lot of complaints on this issue and I hope Dodge will stand behind this!.
Whjile parked antifreeze spot started showing up under the Dodge Durango 2000. Repair shop found 8 freeze plugs leaking on a vehicle with only 61,250 miles on it.
My 2000 Durango, with 60,100 miles on it, had a scent of anti-freeze, so I took it in to the dealer. I was informed that the freeze plugs on one side of the engine were leaking. The parts were removed/replaced, and the old parts had corroded through. I was told I had better change the balance, because "they could go at any time". When I asked how it was possible that these items could fail in such a (relatively) short period of time, the answer was "sometimes that happens". I have worked on vehicles, and rebuilt engines, for over 20 years and this is the first time I have seen an engine with so few miles have this problem. I have 2 of the 3 removed parts (I was told the third "crumbled when removed"), and plan on pursuing Dodge for a better explanation.
Traveling on he interstate in my 2000 Dodge Durango with 50k miles on it when sudden loss of oil pressure to 0. Knocking under hood. Pulled over, towed to mechanic shop. Engine total loss. I have seen and heard numerous same problems and feel something should be done and I will be working my hardest on that.
I am the original owner of my 2000 Durango slt 4x4, since the time of purchase in 2000. I had my vehicle in the shop for the rear roof a/c fan motor going on and off every time I am in the car while the a/c switch is off. I have all records and can contact the dealer for proof that this issue was reported, inspected and worked on numerous times and never resolved. 9 years later, and the problem still persists and has left me quite unhappy especially when this vehicle was my first purchase on my own and I'm reminded of the issue everytime I'm driving the car. I have no other complaints except for this a/c roof unit fan motor going on and off on its own for unknown reason. Sometimes, it might stop if I play with the temperature and fan controllers on the front dash, but has not been specific. I have even spoken to the dealer manager where I purchased the vehicle within days and weeks and continued to months after numerous unresolved repair attempts to claim under the lemon law and the dealership guided me otherwise. Even though its been 9 years, I still own the vehicle and really do wish to resolve this issue as I plan to continue to drive this vehicle for as long as possible as I do keep it routinely maintained and serviced. An additional inquiry or complaint is the awful oil sludge build up near and around the oil cap and reservoir intake where the oil is added. I was also informed by my mechanic that the headers were cleaned from sludge build up. I looked this issue up online at the Dodge forums and this seems to be a very common problem. At this time, I have not had any other issues in regard to the sludge build up but my main concern is the rear fan since I cannot find any related information to repair this problem. Please take the time into this rear a/c matter, and recommendations for the sludge prevention or maintenance, it would be greatly.
