1 Engine problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2011

My 2000 Dodge Durango keeps shuting down in the middle if traffick. Today my wife was almost ran over by a semi because of this. I have found numerouse complaints from other Dodge consumers with the same problem. I am asking that someone please look into this. As soon as possable.

2 Engine problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

I have owned my 2000 Durango since it was new, I have changed the oil regularly for the whole time, I have always done it myself. I recently brought the vehicle in for the "ticking" noise that I've been told since the vehicle was new, "there is no concern" when I changed the oil, it was always clean, no problems. Well, it seems the engine oil had not been traveling through the motor and apparently damaged internal parts to the tune of $2700. 00, when I looked it up online, I learned this has happened to nearly every 4. 7 v8 that Chrysler makes, my computer lit up with the exact same problems, everywhere. Why is it that Chrysler is not responsible for a motor defect that the consumer has no control over? all maintainance had been done on this one, and has been taken care of meticulously. I called Chrysler for assistance, but the response was that of deny, deny, deny and refer the customer to the original warranty, the end! I believe Chrysler should step up and be responsible for their incompetence! I for one would like my hard earned money back for this job, which took me 6 months to pay off to get my car back.

3 Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

Engine intermittently shuts off. Sometimes not everyday and sometimes 10 times. Shuts off at various speeds, idling and in drive at a stop light, or going 40 miles per hour. It sometimes restarts right away, and sometimes it cranks and cranks, and about the 15th try it may restart. It cut out 6 times in the parking lot of a mall. The only thing I can think of is that I was parked in the sun on a hot day at the mall, and the engine quit after running for only 30 seconds.

4 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2009

Driving along on the way to see my father in the hospital and the check gauge light came on and the oil pressure went to 0 and then back up and then back to 0, and then engine seized up. Now will have to replace the engine, Chrysler should pony up for all these vehicles when they know there is a problem. I will definitely be keeping receipts for this just in case.

5 Engine problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2006

Vehicle lost oil pressure due to sludge buildup. This could be a serious safety hazard. If the engine is not shut-off immediately it could irreparably damage the engine. It is a common problem with no help from the manufacturer.

6 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2006

Loss of oil pressure due to sludge caused the engine to seize. Vehicle was well maintained, which luckily I have all the documentation. Trusted mechanic stated that this is not the first time he has heard of this problem and that this is a common problem with this type of engine, as there is a design flaw which does not allow oil to flow properly to all parts of engine. He stated that it would be better to put in a new engine as the repair to the existing engine would be extensive. I called Dodge and they will not do anything about the problem.

7 Engine problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2005

Engine lock up. In June of this year my vehicle was having a loss of oil pressure. The dealer replaced the sensor switch and then flushed the engine two times. Two days ago the oil pressure gauge dropped again and the vehicle stopped while I was driving @ about 55 miles per hour.

8 Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

I own a 2000 Dodge Durango 2wd with 63000 miles on it. The engine is having to be replaced. I was told it is because of not having oil changed, but I have receipts that show the oil was changed regularly. This is very costly and I have heard that other people have had the same problem. The service technician described the engine has being full of sludge.

9 Engine problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2004

The two occurrences involved premature deterioration of various devices and components. At approximately 37,000 miles (after warranty expired), the device that controls the check engine operations had to be replaced. Most recently, at 40,000 miles, the power steering pump and lines had to be replaced. It was brought to my attention that the premature corrosion of the lines caused the pump damage.

10 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2004

2000 Dodge Durango VIN#yf159461 is in for brake repairs. The dealer manhattan Dodge 711 eleventh Ave NY NY 10019 212-765-6633 claims I need a new master cylinder. They claim that my ball joints on both sides front need to be replaced. I have heard about the investigation. As I am choosing to replace them for my personal safety, I will collect the old ones if the NHTSA would like them, please let me know.

11 Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2004

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango, and I am concerned about the ball bearings, and the engine, and need to know what to do about it. My car is squeeking when I turn, and the engine is smelling like it's burning all the time.

12 Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

Cracked cylinder heads. I have been waiting for my vehicle to be fixed @ the dealership for 2 weeks now. They have informed me that they have no eta on the cylinder heads because they are on a nation wide back order. So that indicates there is a nation wide problem with Dodge Durangos and their cylinder heads. I feel there should be a recall on these parts. Please investigate this matter. Thank you sandra lopez.

13 Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

Despite regular maintenance, the engine on my 2000 Durango needed replacing. Dealer says "shouldn't have happened". After doing some internet research, it appears that this is a defect in the design, has happened to many people and Dodge is denying all responsibility.

14 Engine problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2004

2000 Dodge Durango with 55,000 miles had oil sludge build-up due to faulty design resulting in zero oil pressure. Oil pan screen so filled with carbon build-up, it required replacement $455 service bill reimbursement denied by dealer. After doing some research, I have found 100's of cases describing the same problem. Concerned about potential replacement of the engine in the near future. The service mananger insisted we didn't follow the proper oil change schedule, tried to tell us we had to follow a 2003 car/Mini van schedule. We told him we followed the schedule in our owner's manual.

16 Engine problem

The consumer was concerned the engine will become defective even though the maintenance was continuous on the vehicle.

17 Engine problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2003

My 2000 Dodge Durango lost oil pressure. After taking it to dealership, they said it was due to sludge in oil pan going through intake tube. Since my husband performs most of the oil changes himself, I only had a few receipts. My warranty company refused to pay. From reading other peoples complaints of the same problem, it seems Chrysler is refusing to pay too. I just bought my last Dodge.

18 Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2003

The oil pressure in our 2000 Dodge Durango dropped to 0. . We dropped the car off for 1 days - I was informed that to to \"oil sludge\" in the engine, the car is irrepairable damage to the engine. The engine will need to be replaced the car has 73,000 miles on it and we still owe $18,000! I called auto west Dodge, CA to ask if they had heard of any similar problems and was told no. Then checked online and have found many of the same examples of the same problem.

19 Engine problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2003

We have a 2000 Durango with 39,847 miles on it. On June 6, 2003 we were traveling down the freeway and the oil pressure dropped to 0. The oil pressure returned to normal when the engine came to an idle. At first it appeared as if I had a gauge problem. I checked everything out and began on our way again just to find it happened all over again once we got to speed. I pulled over and the pressure returned to normal! we shut it down and towed it to a nearby dealership. There, when asked, I demonstrated that our engine was okay by cranking it without starting it. Several days later they informed me that I would need a new engine ($8310). I had it towed to the dealership where I purchased it. There, the service manager informed me the engine was seized! someone had evidently run the engine after it was dropped off, but each dealership blames the other!!! oddly, neither dealership ever asked me what my driving habits are to determine if I should be on the 7,500 mile schedule or the 3,000 mile schedule as described in the owners manual!.
