The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 60 mph, the steering column moved left and right and the vehicle failed to move immediately. The contact inspected the steering column and noticed that the pin that holds the upper universal joint and steering failed. The vehicle was driven to a local repair shop and the mechanic could not find any failures. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified. The current mileage was 150,000 and failure mileage was 145,000.
The steering pump and rack failed while driving at 35 mph. Which made the vehicle difficult to steer. The power steering pump was removed and replaced along the steering rack.
