Failure Date: 05/21/2014

Driving on regular road just turns off and you loose control of steering , brakes and speed, it has happened on highway and lucky it has happened while on right lane. Steering locks down and you are force to use muscle power to get it out of the way. Can I make a lawsuit against the doge people to fix such problem or should I wait until my wife gets killed or others as it has happened with other Durango owners? replacing the pcm didn't do the job the problem's still happening and now is in the parking lot until it becomes safe.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

Purchased the vehicle locally. After 2 days of owning it the vehicle would shut off at random moments. Sometimes when I am driving at 40mph and sometimes at 20mph and under. In traffic and sometimes after being parked for a bit will not startup. When we are driving and the engine shuts off the steering wheel locks up also. The vehicle may take hours before it starts again. There has been many many complaints and still no real solution. The 1999 to 2001 Durangos must be recalled before a fatality occurs.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2006

Dodge Durango 4x2. We have had to have the upper ball joint repaired and now the steering knuckle is out on the vehicle. I have contact Dodge dealers and customer care and was told the recall on this only pertained to the 4x4. I am having the same problem with the 2000 4x2 and they state it is not on the recall list. I do see that there were 400,000 4x2 with the same problem.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2004

When turining my 2000 Dodge Durango I heard a poping noise, my mechanic told me on 10/27/04 my ball joints were bad and that the whole sterring rack needed to be replaced. I called the local dealer and was told it is not covered under warranty, I then called Dodge they advised the same. I looked on the internet and have found numerous complaints to consumer affairs. The repair will cost $1200. 00, this vehicle has only 48,000 miles. From what I have read and the cbs news report it seems that Dodge should have a recall for this problem before people start getting killed.

2000 Dodge Durango (41k miles) steering wheel locks while driving, brake, and electrical system failures. Dealership has offered to buy back the car for $14k. The car was bought 6 months ago with 32k miles for $23k plus a trade in payoff amount for a 2003 Toyota rav4, which is in addition to the Durango purchase price. The offered amount is not sufficient to replace the defective car with a new or used car of comparable size/functionality. 13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

The steering, suspension, and wheels suck!!! on my 2000 Dodge Durango. N Feb. 15, 2003 while driving my Durango, it totally lost control, causing me to side swipe one car, then cause damage to a second and third car. I continue to drive a vehicle that I do not feel safe in. With four children I can not afford to purchase another car. If I could get out of my contract with Dodge and trade it in for a safer SUV, I would. When riding I constantly experience my rear wheels sliding to my right; this usually happens whenever I ride over pot holes or bumps in the street, which is practically evey couple dozen feet in the city. My driving experience with my 2000 Dodge Durango is so unsatisfying. Prior to me purchasing my Dodge, I was the owner of not one, but two Toyota camry's. I made the choice not to go back to the Toyota dealer to purchase an SUV. Instead, as a token of my appreciation to my country. I thought it was best to purchase an american made vehicle; you know, keep the money at home. Every day I questioned that theory. Usually I'm not this harsh of a person, but when it comes down to my children's safety; well, I get pretty pissed. We limit our long distance traveling time. I totally do not drive when its raining, unless I absolutely have to. On highways I drive at least 5-10 miles under the speed limit; for fear of losing control. And to top things off I have this grinding type noise up and around my axle thing; that no one at the two Dodge repair garages seems to know what it is exactly. I had my ball joints replaced twice. One month after I got brand new brakes put on, they started to squeak. I was told that the majority of Dodge SUV's brakes squeak, its just how the manufacturers make them; go figure.
