36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

My vehicle as well as many others that ive read have been having issues with the 4wd, this is a problem that should have a recall as to how many individuals have the same problems. Svc 4wd light comes on and then back off 4 lo light flashes when car is more so off/ but occasionally when on, makes a clicking noise, which what I could find and from others, is the transfer case changing occasionally when in reverse/drive the car either locks or acts as if the rear wheels are locked I do know there is no recall for these issues, but if you were to take the time to check into this, I feel you would also agree with everyone that this is a manufacturing/malfunction in possible the transfer case. I'm sure it doesnt matter, but I am a single mother of 3 and yes I know there are so many more just like me, but I cant afford to have take my vehicle in to be fixed especially when it should be a recall issue! please please look into this.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Vehicle goes in and out of 4 wheel drive on its own. Clicking noise under vehicle when using key fob to lock and unlock vehicle. Does not always occur. Is in 4 wheel drive more than not these days.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I bought the vehicle used and researched the problem of "fuel spitting", which my vehicle does. This model was under recall Chrysler h45, but not my VIN #. Why hasn't this been recalled? it is a fire hazard and is ruining body components when the fuel spits back. Please add this VIN to the recall list so I can get the problem fixed at chryler's expense. Thanks.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Durango is stalling while I am driving it. First time it stalled I was on a onramp to enter the freeway. I was lucky the car behind did not hit me. The vehicle stalls when I am trying to find a parking place and sometimes when I am trying to leave my driveway. It has never happen yet at high speed only at low speeds but I do think this is dangerous. I have taken the vehicle into the dealership twice. It does not happen for them. There are no warning lights. It just happens but it has not happened for them. So I am driving not knowing when the vehicle will stall out. I am under warranty.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2014

Vehicle will illuminate "svc awd" and the vehicle will automatically switch vehicle into different gears while driving on its on. One day the vehicle switched to 4lo while in drive, not changes were made. Another time while vehicle was parked, no key in the ignition, when hit the unlock button on the key you can hear the vehicle switching gears on its again! while making a sharp turn to park the vehicle switched into nuetral on its on and was unable to drive or reverse. I put the vehicle in park waited a fe seconds restarted it and parked and the svc awd light was still on. I have had the ignition switch replaced, along with the tranmission and transfer case all within the frist 6 months of 2014. The svc awd light comes on and off on it own randomley. I am not sure what the issue is and neither does the dealer. I had the ignition switch changed at a palmer Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership and the svc awd light is still on the vehicle continues to switch gears on its own.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2014

The car locks it's wheels and doesn't run. When coming to a stop light the brakes do not respond and it jerks trying to stop and accelerate at the same time. The ignition switch also catches and does not start. I've taken the Durango to the dealership and I'm always told that nothing is wrong with it.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2014

Moisture entered into the cylinders via that air intake manifold due to a water seal design defect in the area of the windshield wiper arms. When the vehicle is parked, rain water coming down the front windshield will flow directly under the cowl and onto the engine block. This water intrusion causes undue stress on the pistons, rods, and crankshaft eventually causing a rod to break and puncture the engine block. If this happens at highway speeds, the results could be deadly. The other known scenario is after the car is parked for a period of time (exposed to rain), the cylinder will fill with water, causing a hydro-lock condition and the vehicle will not start. The engine usually is found to also have a bent or fractured rod at this point. This is a known problem by Dodge / Chrysler and they refuse to do anything about it. 43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

While. I'm driving my SUV lock up the 4 wheel light come on out of no where and then 4 low light come on I have been smelling a burning smell and don't know where it's coming from everyone whom look at it don't know what's wrong. All I know is yesterday I was on the highway and the same thing happen agin with no warning even when I lock my car door I hear this funny noise.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

I was driving my 2005 Dodge Durango home on the freeway going 55 mph getting off on the off ramp the transfer case shifted into 4 low which in turn locked my wheels up (top speed in 4 low is about 30 mph), this nearly caused me to roll the vehicle. When I got off the off ramp the service 4x4 light was on then went off, went 2 more blocks came back on and shifted into 4 hi. The transfer case does shift on its own even while I am not in the vehicle with my key in my hand. I have read more complaints about this transfer case issue than I can count, it is not only the 2005 models doing this it has been happening well into the first generation Durango. Something has to be done about this before some one is seriously injured or killed. I was lucky this time I am afraid to take my wife and kids with me any where in it due to this problem. Please do something about this before some one is injured or killed.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2014

This vehicle clicks into 4 wheel drive randomly and won't come out. The vehicle was being driven at 55mph when it kicked out of gear and quit. It sounded as if the transfer case dropped out of the vehicle and driver felt as if going to go through the front windshield. The 4x4 kicks in and out, and won't steer. Driving is difficult and vehicle barely moves. When called Chrysler they don't know what it is and suggest trying multiple different things but nothing is guaranteed, and will cost thousands of dollars to fix more than the cost of the vehicle. While vehicle is not turned on but key is in hand you can hear the actuating motor clicking in and out. Very difficult to drive and when vehicle stalls won't start back up. A safety hazard on the highway, and apparently there are numerous complaints of the same kind. This needs to be addressed by Chrysler.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2014

Vehicle switches in & out of 4wd on its own while driving, or puts itself into neutral on the 4wd, also hear something engaging when unlocking doors with remote when parked or remote won't work at all to unlock doors. Mechanic found lots of other mechanics working on same issue on a forum he subscribes too and I found tons of Durango & some pickup owners complaining of and trying to get the same issue fixed. I have had several other minor electrical issues in my Durango for the past two years so I am convinced this is an electrical issue.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

The gas will not shut off when refueling the vehicle. Gas runs out on the ground. I have a light that comes on saying gas cap even though I bought a new one. And I have rust on the side where gas has run down the vehicle. I have also had an incident where everything electrical in my vehicle has went crazy. Lights flashing gages malfuctioning and at this time it would not take any fuel you could push on the accelerator all you wanted but it would not take fuel. I have read where other people have had problems with their gas refueling to. This is a very serouis and dangerous problem. I would like an investigation into this and I would like a response please. I think the manufactuer should be held responsiable for their mistakes and this is clearly their mistake.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Everytime it rain water is getting inside the engine due a defect water cowling at the windshield that let water into the intake and spark plug ignition coil causing engine misfire and hydro lock causing the engine to fail . There had been lots of complaint about this issues with customers who own 2004-2006 Dodge Durango and Chrysler is refusing to fix it . I made a video to show you the problem. . Read more...

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The central timer module (ctm) or body computer as some call it went bad causing the 4 wheel drive to engage or disengage without warning. When the 4 wheel drive engages while driving it makes it nearly impossible to make tight turns and at low speeds you are unable to turn at all. The part also causes the wipers to randomly engage, the door locks to randomly engage or disengage, and more.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

First sign of problem, when pulling into driveway or parking spot doing either a left or right hand turn, my 2005 Dodge Durango would not turn even after applying more gas than usual, my truck actually stopped as if the brakes were engaged. Then, while driving I noticed my 4lo light coming on intermittently, also when I either lock or unlock my truck with the remote I hear a clicking sound underneath the truck like something is engaging. You can also hear this switch sound under the car even when the car is off. Seems like the transfer case motor is switching on its own regardless of the vehicle being on or off. Also some sort of electrical problems when it rains. . .

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

My Durango shift into 4 wheel hi and 4 wheel lo by itself while driving and while sitting. This cause my truck while driving to jerk and it locks the wheels up. This situation causes difficulty to turn also.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

Fuel sprays out of fuel tank once tank is full when filling.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I was driving in my apartment complex and as I slowed down to turn my truck just shut off. Steering wheel locks and I am not able to turn. I have to press hard on the brake for it to stop and I can then put it into park and turn the key to turn it back on. I have two small children of the age of 1 & 2. Having them in the car with me when this happens is nerve wrecking. It's happened at least once or twice every 2-3 weeks. I have asked mechanics in regards to this and have had it checked and no one can tell me what it is. The previous owner said that it did the same not all the time but when he took it to the Dodge dealer, they couldn't tell him what it was either. My last (most recent) incident was on 5/10/14 - the car shut off four times that day. 2 happened while I was stopped at a red light, one happened as I was slowing down to park and one happened while I was turning and the car shut off in the middle of the turning lane while my family was in the car with me. The other issue I have is with my fuel tank. I can't fill my tank becuase when I do . . . It spits out gas. Also, I've had to switch out my IL pressure switch twice since February 2014. I have no idea as to why it's doing that.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

The steering wheel locks and the car is not able to be started.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

I was driving home from shopping with my husband and when I turned the rear end jerked and almost made me wreck. I had to pull over at tim horton's and the vehicle finally corrected itself and everything was okay. It happened again last night, I was leaving from goodwill and as I was turning out of my parking spot it did it again, but this time worse if someone was in front of me I would have hit them without my control. As I was turning onto my narrow bridge last night it did it again and I almost wrecked into the bridge and into my creek, I then decided that it was dangerous and wasn't going to drive this vehicle until it get's fixed.

56 Equipment problem

2 problems: 1) even though our local dealership is insistent that we don't have a recall, I can see a recall on your page about windshield wiper motors. Our wipers come on every time we start the vehicle, and they work sporadically. Sometimes while they're on, they won't come on at all, as mentioned in the recall information. Why isn't mine covered? 2) biggest problem: several times (upwards of ten times) I have been going slow, usually making a turn, and my engine stalls. I have to turn the key off and then restart, and I'm okay again. Took it to a mechanic in the last part of July/first part of August last year, and he replaced the fuel pump. It didn't occur again until December, while we were on vacation- we were slowly going up a hill and it stalled. Had to turn the key off and then re-start it. It hadn't done it again until a couple days ago. It did it three times in one day, then has been doing it each day since. I'm really afraid that the Durango is going to die in the middle of traffic and I'll get hit. I have four young kids, and I am panicked thinking about having to drive it with them inside, because I'm afraid that we're going to get hit and hurt. It's so scary that I'm tempted to trade it in- though I can't really afford it, we just bought this thing used last year. I'm wondering if it did this for the previous owners as well. There are complaints all over the internet about this same problem, but no fix for it. Even if I could get a mechanic to tell me what it is and fix it, I'd do that, but nobody seems to know what the answer is. It's obviously a huge safety issue!! please help!!.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

The vehicles dash board lights will all light up, at one point I would have the gas floored and it would feel like I'm towing a house it started getting worse to the point the car would stall while driving so I would put it in neutral and it would start back up when the lights arent on it runs fine but once the light come on the dash board it acts up and all the lights come on tempature, check engine, air bag, 4x4, oil light ,battery light ,etc Dodge flashed my computer it worked for a week and then started again I have had many mechanics look at it along with Dodge and no one can figure out the problem , recently starting 5/27/15 the problems have proceedeed to get extremely dangerous now once all the lights light up it stalls and may not restart several times I've been stuck on the highway waiting an hour or two to restart it and now it only gets me a few feet then stalls plus its now doing it with no lights on the dash ,rpms ,mph etc , and when it drives sometimes there is nothing on dash but when I hit brakes all the guages will shoot up temparture and fuel even if its not a full rank it will say it then when I step on gas the dash board gos out, I have contacted corporate Dodge to resolve this issue telling them I've seen several numerous complaints the same as mine but yet no recall so they now want me once again to take it to Dodge, June 9th 2015 , but today June 3rd 2015 , I stalled in the street on rt 9 and it would not start at all to the point I had to call a tow truck then once the tow truck dropped it at my house it started but all the lights were lit up on dash ,if I was able to post pictures and videos on here I would because I video the dash every time it does it and I plan to show Dodge the videos on the 9th , Dodge needs to resolve this issue.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

4wd engages without switch being thrown. 4wd engages and disengages at will. So far just annoying, but could cause crash if it engages on turn at medium speed.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2013

My 05 Dodge Durango will engage in 4 wheel drive while driving on the highway, and engage while truck is in park and engine off.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

My 2005 Durango started this about 2 wks ago; searching other forums and my mechanic searched his sites, it's most likely an electrical issue having to do with the ac shorting out voltage to the transfer case. . . I am sending a letter off to Dodge corporate as there are so many complaints about this issue from other Dodge Durango & ram owners, who like me, feel it should be a recall issue. I am not about to bring it in only to have a mechanic "try" to fix the issue and replace the wrong part so I have to go in repeatedly and spend money I don't have until (if even) it is solved. I would rather trade it in for something else. Hoping by sending a letter to corporate they will consider a recall notice or help me to get the problem fixed.

Same issue as reported below: date investigation opened: Nov 18, 2010 date investigation closed: open NHTSA action number: aq10001 component(s): unknown or other all products associated with this investigation details 43 associated documents manufacturer: Chrysler group llc , Ford motor company , general motors llc summary: the agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle. Nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding. The purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns. These campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market. This information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways. This aq is opened.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

Date investigation opened: Nov 02, 2005 date investigation closed: Aug 29, 2007 NHTSA action number: ea05018 component(s): power train all products associated with this investigation details 26 associated documents manufacturer: Chrysler group llc summary: analysis of the complaint, field report and warranty data shows that the majority of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles appear to be related to the engine calibration concerns that daimlerchrysler addressed with service bulletins releasing revised pcm software. Analysis of the complaints and odi's survey of owners of vehicles that received engine management software updates under TSB #18-013-05 show that these stalling incidents have the following characteristics: - they occur at low speeds, often during parking lot or driveway maneuvers; - they occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal; and - the operator is almost always able to immediately restart the vehicle. When compared with other safety defect investigations and recalls of conditions that result in stalling during low-speed deceleration with immediate engine restart possible, the failure rate in the subject vehicles is low. Analyses of complaint and warranty data also show a declining trend. Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. See document file for additional information regarding this resume.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

Every time I fill up the vehicle with fuel it sprays gasoline out all over the side of the vehicle as well as whoever is fueling it. Several like model Durangos from this year and close to the same year have had recalls to fix this issue. Im not at all sure why my VIN does not qualify for the recall but it needs to because the problem is obvious and was definitely a manufacturer error. Please consider this request and take care of the issue.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

My passanger airbag light is on all the time even after recall was done. My 05 Dodge Durango stalls randomly while backing up, pulling into parking spaces, making turns sometimes driving down the road. No accident as of yet been going on the hole time I've had this vehicle I am sick of it 2013 to 2020.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

I received a letter recently from my local Dodge dealer indicating my 2005 Dodge Durango would require repair for something causing the fuel to spill out during fill up. This has happened to me several times in the past as I was unaware that there was a recall for this. After receiving this letter a few weeks ago I inspected the quarter panel underneath the gas tank more closely noticing bubbling of the paint with chipping starting. Pressing on the paint it sounded corrosive like rust. As I began to chip some of the paint away I discovered rust and two holes that were completely through. Looking through the holes I could see rust behind the body. After reviewing several car and Dodge forums I see that this has happened to several people in the same area of the drive quarter panel. I can only assume there is a correlation between the fuel problem and the rust that appears to have come inside out to the body of the car. There is no other rust on this car and has been well maintained. I contacted my local dealer who informed me that the recall on the inlet valve is still valid however rust would not be. It concerns me that Chrysler doesn't feel responsible for the damage caused by their defective item. How could I have know that this was happening since I just received notification I'm concerned the rust damage is more great than I can actually see. Of course I'm additionally concerned with possible fire etc which is what the recall specifically indicates. I will make appointment with the dealership for repair of the fuel inlet valve. I would like Chrysler to also pay for the damage that was caused by their defective part. I have 99,200 miles currently. I don't want my concerns to be dismissed as I feel I'm not the only one that this has happened to. I only received a letter recently for this problem so I feel all parts of the problem should be addressed.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

My 2005 Dodge Durango slt stalls without warning. This has happened multiple times.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2013

Purchased 2005 Dodge Durango in December 2005 brand new. Had several issues with gas overflowing when filling up vehicle. My vehicle was part of the recall and problem was fixed, but damage was already starting to affect paint on the vehicle right below where you fill the gas tank. The rust just started being more visible than it had been over the last several months. It seems like when it rains the rust is getting worse. Since this problem started accuring, I have noticed several Dodge Durango vehicles with this same problem. It seems like it should have been a recall to fix the paint on the driver side right below where you fill the gas tank, since the overflowing has caused this problem. It is the only spot on the vehicle rusting.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

Vehicle stalls during at low speeds, often during parking lot or driveway maneuvers; - they occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal. Happens multiple times without warning which has led to near accidents. Extremely dangerous. Surprised that there have been two investigations that have both been closed. There needs to be a recall ASAP.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

Vehicle purchased used in June 2010. Within days of purchase, vehicle began stalling while pulling out into traffic. Vehicle was returned to the dealer several times. Egr valve was replaced and throttle service done, idler pully replaced. Stalling problem continued to occur on and off along with hard shifting, hesitating, lack of power issues. Transmission rebuilt in Jan 2012 after it "froze" backing out of the driveway. Bell housing leak detected and fixed in June 2012. Stalling worsened, occurring not only from start up but while traveling straight in acceleration to speeds just above 40 mph. Revving in park, neutral and while stopped in traffic started in early 2013 and continues today. Have had vehicle in for service on numerous occasions with no fix to the problem. Torque converter clutch, water pump, fuel injector, coil, vacuum sensor, air intake sensor, knock sensor, pcv valve, plugs and wires have all been replaced or repaired but problems persist. This vehicle is a danger as it stalls without warning in heavy traffic and when pulling out into traffic and revvs so high at stops that I have had to put both feet on the brake to prevent it from lurching into the vehicle in front of me.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

I can not fill up my vehicle all the way because fuel spews out before the pump shuts off. I have contacted the dealer and they will not look at it as a defect or recall anymore. I have to pay for it. I do not think that this right because this is a very serious security hazard. This issue is clearly a serious problem and could cause serious injuries or even death if an ignition source happened to blow nearby. I think the dealer should fix it free of charge. I know that there has been a recall on this before so the dealer should fix any issue that comes up concerning all factory defects and/or recalls regardless of how long it has been.
