Failure Date: 12/09/2016

This is the 3rd time since August 2016- so 3 to 4 months timeframe- my Dodge Durango has died on me while driving. This means a complete loss of steering, lights, power, the vehicle is completely dead. This is a safety issue. I can barely make it to the side of the road without crashing. An investigation needs to be opened up regarding this. They have recalls against the alternator but are not honoring them.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

On no 1, 2016 when I was going at work, I was driving on west park hwy (houston, TX), and suddenly my car stopped working in the middle of the road, all the system has stopped working, and the front car started smoking (burn, & fire). And I survived by the grace of god. I call the towing services so as to move the car from the hwy to my house. And I can't really tell you what exactly happened. But the constancy is, my car is not drivable until now. And my insurance company sent some expert so as to assess the risk, and they told me what happened is the defect of the constructor (Chrysler group llc), because there are more than 300 hundred cases of complaints similar with my explanations. And from this day to now, I am traumatized by this incident. It is the reason that I am writing to you so as to solve this hazard or main issue. And actually my car is parked at home (15770 bellaire blvd, #2107, houston, tx77083). My insurance claim number state farm: 53-0079-5s5. N. B. : I also attached the towing receipt issued by the towing services.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

My 2011 Dodge Durango, 3. 6l/v6 with 180amp alternator - alternator rapidly failed while driving ("in motion"), causing complete shut down of the vehicle and disabling both the battery and the control module requiring them both to be replaced. This complete shut down caused the abs and steering to lock up and all my electrical including my flashers to not work. This is a major safety concern and is identical to the p60 recall of this same vehicle built with the 160amp alternator which is virtually the same as my vehicle. I was never informed of the p60 recall and believe that my vehicle and all others like it should not be excluded from this recall! fortunately I was not driving in a location with high speeds or heavy traffic at that moment but had it failed only minutes later someone could have been seriously injured or killed because of this design flaw. Clearly this is a major safety issue and just because the alternators are slightly different amp then that of the current recall those vehicles should not be excluded from the recall. I have seen numerous similar complaints from other owners with the 180amp alternator. Please contact me if there are any questions regarding this information, including any further details regarding my receipts for repairs.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2016

My VIN number is not on the recall list for recall p60. But my truck just had to be towed due to battery light coming on and about 20 mins later smoke coming from the hood loss of power steering them a dead truck with a key stuck in the ignition . While driving before any of this happen there was a lack of motion on the truck it did not want to go . The computer system started to malfunction flashing on and off telling me to buckle my seat belt , which I had mine on and so did my children! now I'm having to pay a deductible because mine VIN is not listed with the recall p60 . All the signs point to this recall I am not happy.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

I have had a recall since the beginning of last year, each time I contact a dealer they are stating that parts are not available my car is experiencing electrical issues.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2016

Upon starting the vehicle in a parking lot, a dead short permanently damaged the alternator and the alternator permanently damaged the battery. This issue was sudden and without warning. The car was running fine prior to this occurrence. The short was serious enough to cause a fire, although a fire did not occur. I was told this was a fortunate bit of luck. I have been informed that there is a recall for this exact issue in other vehicles in the same model year, however my vehicle is not included at this time. I had to pay a significant amount of money for this issue (diagnosis, parts and labor).

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

Purchased new 2011 Dodge Durango in 2011, I wasl driving to work this week locally and Dec 22,2015 battery light came on. Before the light came on I was driving with kids in the card and smelled burning in car thought it was exhaust from outside traffic. Another day my mom was in the car with me going shopping and she said she smelled something burning. Battery went because alternator was bad as per the auto place the wires were burned according to autoplace alternator bad,I contacted Dodge and provided receipt copies from the auto place that the alternator was bad but they said because warranty was up at 36,000 miles they wont reimburse me and there was nothing they could do but to make a complaint to NHTSA. This needs to be recalled, I have seen over 400 complaints and safety issues, how many people do they want to get injured before they recall? dealership is no longer around. If does not get recalled I will make sure to turn this one back and never purchase from Dodge again and will contact the media to expose Dodge for putting not recalling this alternator and putting the safety of families in harms way. I hope nothing else happens, I am always in the truck with my kids and I am really nervous driving my truck now and worried if something else is going to happen when we are in the car. This should have never happened to a brand new truck. I have had used cars longer than this and never once had a problem with any issues with the cars. This is a serious matter and hope it can be taken care of immediately.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

My 2011 Dodge Durango alternator went out and my pcm. No warning car just shut down. You need to do a recall on all no matter the amp!!! I will never buy Dodge again!.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2015

I own a 2011 Dodge Durango citadel with 53,000 miles. Was leaving my house when the car started making a high pitched whine, turned around went back home, turned off the car, could smell burning when I got out of the car. Opened the hood and the alternator (220 amp) was smoking. If I would have driven any longer the alternator most likely would have caught fire and could have burnt my car to the ground.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

I was on my way to work today when I noticed a burning smell and then the battery light came on. Due to heavy traffic I couldn't pull to the side. I got farther down the road and heard a loud whining noise. When I arrived at work I contacted the local Dodge dealership to speak with the service department about this incident. I was told that it sounds like the alternator but that my vehicle was not covered in the recent recall since I have the 180amp alternator. The recall was only for the 160 amp alternators. I was shocked since my vehicle only has 61,000 miles on it. Researching this problem online I found numerous complaints from people having the same identical problem with the 180amp alternator (with the same make model and year) that caused the recall of the 160amp alternators. I have contacted Dodge to see if they would stand by their product and do the right thing concerning this. Once again they have failed me. Consumers are reporting an average of $1400 to have the alternator replaced with no recall or warranty. I have 4 pictures of my soot covered alternator ( I am a firefighter I know what electrical soot looks and smells like). This is very concerning to think I could lose my Durango could catch fire, loose power and stall in traffic, cause an accident or have my wife stranded on the side of the road due to this.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

We have had many problems with this SUV since date of purchase. Our latest issue is the rear hatch will not stay open and it just slams shut and over rides the safety feature of if an object or person is in the way it would go back open. Currently as it is it would crush a person, the issue makes it so we can not even use our rear hatch. There was a notice sent out by the TSB on Feb. 1, 2013 number 08-005-13 about this issue and how it needs a new software update. I have spoken to Chrysler a number of times about this issue, they said we would have to take it into a dealership and pay for it to be looked at. First that is so not right as if it is a known problem to them and they know how to fix it, second the dealership I purchased this SUV from is 2 miles from our home they refuse to work our SUV and want us to drive 80 plus miles to have it worked on. , this is not right as I bought it from them why should I endure the time and exspense of fixing an issue we have no control over. We ask that you guys step in and make them make right by this and fix this issue that they know is common for this year and model.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2015

While driving on the highway when I come across a rough spot that is unavoidable (with all the construction on the roads) my steering wheel starts rocking and it becomes very difficult to maintain control of the car. It resembles a flat tire. I have to really pay attention and keep the car in my lane. There is also a very noticeable rattle/noise/vibration under the car. I have had the alignment done and even purchased new tires, but so far nothing has helped.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

Transmission fluid is leaking from the ac condenser of my 2011 Dodge Durango. There is purplish fluid on my driveway and the condenser is covered in fluid. When I called to inquire about the condenser, the dealership stated that there is no recall on this part and the 3 year warranty is out. They want $110 just to look under the hood to see where the fluid is coming from. Chrysler is aware of the issue because changes have been made in the 2015 Dodge Durangos. Vehicle is running a little sluggish and I am concerned that this may also be a fire hazard.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

When I shut off engine and exit the vehicle, I lock the doors. When I put the key in my pocket and walk away, the vehicle will either lock or unlock just by walking with the key in my pocket. Most recently, when walking with in pocket, the front windows roll down.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

I've had my Durango back to the dealer several times for the stalling issue. They allege that all repairs were completed in late November. I then went out of town on business for two months. I came back in late January, and the vehicle continued to stall on me while driving. They said the warranty work was done on the fuel pump relay in November. When I took it back in February, they replaced the computer and the keys because they said that the vehicle was shutting down because the the computer didn't recognize that the key was in the vehicle and it shut down to prevent the vehicle from being stolen. On February 26th, it stalled while driving again. I left a voice mail for the dealership with no return phone call. On March 1st, the vehicle stalled while driving again. The vehicle is now back in the dealership.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Was traveling 55 mph the engine goes from drive mode to 4 on the dash without changing the gear shift. Came to a stop on hill vehicle would not go forward when applying gas peddle had to roll down hill tried to move vehicle from park to drive gear on dashboard showed 4. Stopped vehicle placed it in park then checked in neutral then went to drive but it would not show drive on the dashboard display shows gear 4. Turned vehicle off then started vehicle back up the check engine light came on moved gear shift from park to drive but dashboard display shows 4 it will not show drive on the dashboard display but you can drive the vehicle it did not stall. Vehicle was parked until it can be taken to dealer to determine problem why the check engine light is on why the vehicle is showing 4 gear not drive on the dashboard display.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

I did not have a specific incident yet, however I have had three recalls on my vehicle and the parts have apparently "been on order" since June. I keep getting duplicate notices when I have tried to get them taken care of at the dealer but they can not get the necessary parts needed to fix my vehicle before there is a serious incident because of this! I also had to pay to fix a fuse on my vehicle when it seems that one of the three recalls is for the same exact thing. I should get my deductible back of $100 for that repair on March 11, 2014.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

The power liftgate opened then promptly fails and collapses with no resistance or warning on the occupant. The incident has re-occured overtime since the initial problem was identified and caused minor injury to related party. Power lift gate will make caution noise on the way up but when reaching pinnacle and should stop, proceeds to slam down with full weight and force.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2014

Check engine light started to come on and would go off on its own. Every time I took it to dealership, I was told they could not diagnose vehicle as engine light was not on. It also constantly stalls and parts are not available to get recalls fixed as informed by gossett dealership. When engine light was on dealership never had time to check it. One day driving at approximately 45mph, the car started to make screeching noise and the noise was extremely loud. I manager to get home as it was night time. The next day, I called dealership and they said that they could not see me that day and tried to give an appointment for the next week. I then took it to midas and $650 later they said it was fixed. Now, the transmission is not changing gears properly and heater sometimes blows air and then sometime does not. . . This SUV is a piece of junk and Chrysler group should be sued and made to take all these junks excuse of vehicles back!.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2014

I could not get any of the recalls fixed! 2 Dodge dealerships in my area would only look and not correct my brake issue. One dealership told me I was at the bottom of the list because I did not purchase my Durango there!.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

My vehicle start to being slow. It does not star , turn off after start . Has a strange noise when running. I call DE dealer, asking what happens if I have an accident with children. The said the insurance will pay. That they have not received the parts already and I have to wait until tomorrow. What will I do without my car for severals days? I do not have another one, the insurance says they will not allow me to have another.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

We are getting a check engine light immediately followed by a traction control warning light which is then followed by a loss of power. You can push the gas pedal to the floor without any acceleration. This has happened numerous times on the highway. You can be in the left lane without the ability to accelerate and now you have to pull off to the left or struggle to maneuver to the right. It has occurred while on the on-ramp to highways and limited the vehicle to 20-30 mph causing right lane traffic to slam their breaks or swerve around us. Our 2011 Durango also burns through bulbs both front and rear at an alarming rate leaving our family on the road often times without a headlight, break lights or turn signal.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

Over the past 2 weeks our Durango has had issues with starting. When using the push start button the engine will crank over multiple times and never start. Sometmes vehicle will start and other times it can take over 20 attempts to start. In one incident it took 34 time to start and even cause black smoke to come up from under the hood. From research with Chrysler corporate and the local dealer, they are aware of the problem. We took the vehicle into the local dealership for an assessment and we were told that the problem had to do with the tipm/fuel relay system. We were told they could not fix it because they didnt have parts to remedy the issue and that they hadnt received a recall notice from Chrysler corporate. From my research it apperas the recall number is p54. Yesterday, on 10/28/2014 while driving on a major road at 50mph the vehicle with two children in the back seat completely stalled and died. Luckily I was able to pull over to the shoulder and we are blessed we werent in a major accident or killed. I contacted Chrysler corporate and local dealer immediately and again was told they could do nothing about it. Not a loaner vehicle, not replacement of part at full cost. . Absolutely nothing. This is completely unacceptable and when you put my childrens lives at stake it becomes personal. The vehicle is now parked in the garage because we fear for our lives. Please help.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2014

Vehicle will start sometimes after multiple attempts and then shut back off. Dealership agreed faulty tipm is the cause and Chrysler is aware of the issue. My VIN is not included in a recall for the issue, so I had to pay $1200 out of pocket to repair.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Vehicle will not start or if it starts it turns back off. It takes sometime up to 4 times before it will start.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

Over the life of the vehicle exact same year make and model I have seen more than 1500 complaints of the ignition issues involving the key mechanism on this vehicle. Some complaints have warned of potetnial for the vehicle to shutdown while being driven. My vehicle stalled out in traffic it would appear the key had slipped back to the off position. Soon after when attempting to restart the vehicle it would not start but sound as if it were trying to start. I believe Dodge is avoiding trying to avoid address these issues and just how wide spread this issue has become.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I had problems starting my car. The engine would try to turn over, but would not start. I put the ignition on run, pumped the gas a few times and it would eventually start most of the time. Took it to my mechanic and we replaced the fuel pump. That didn't fix the problem. After researching the issue we replaced the tipm. That has so far fixed the starting issue, but now my fog lights blink when I try to use my right turn signal. This is putting me and my family at danger while driving the vehicle and not being able to use my right blinker. The dealer here has said that we need to have the tipm "flashed" in order to fix the problem. So the cost of that is an additional $125. My fear is that this will cause even more dangerous issues as I have researched and read many experiences by other 2011 Durango owners. I have read about the upcoming recall p54 to fix the fuel relay. But now that problem is fixed and there is another problem created.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Durango will not start. Just purchased it a couple months ago and I have been stranded several times because it will not turn over. Have to take to a Dodge dealer and have it looked at, which the closest dealer is hours from me. Apparently a recall has been issued but has not been released so I can not go get it fixed. Very upset with Dodge!!.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

I went to start the Durango and it wouldn't start. Like an older car does when it is cold. After several tries it will start. Throughout the day it usually starts up. After football practice a couple days ago I had the same issue. I have been having trouble mostly in the mornings. It has started to turn into an everyday thing. It is taking longer and longer to start the Durango. One evening as I pulled out of my driveway the Durango died. I was halfway pulled out into the road and it took almost 10 minutes to get it started. Cars had to go around me. I was very concerned for my children (13 months, and 8 years) and my own safety. After further investigation I have found others have had the same issues with Durangos. I really think you should recall the tipm!.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Went to start my 2011 Dodge Durango citadel. . . . It would not start. It has 62000 miles on it. Had it towed and was told it was the tipm module. It would cost 1250. Not covered under my warranty. I found out that a lot of these cars are having the same problem. Called Chrysler they have washed their hands of it. They did give me a case number in case it does get enough complaints and then they will recall it. Meanwhile I am out the money.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Durango had a difficult time starting, it would take several attempts to start especially after sitting over night or during the work day. Before I could get it to a dealership, the truck failed to start (thankfully I was at home) and we had to have the truck towed to the dealership. After roughly 2 weeks the tipm was replaced/repaired and I picked up the truck on 6/10/14. The truck now starts fine, however, the signal lights do not work, now- and the fog lights flash when the signal lights are supposed to be on! in many cases I have heard this also affects my brake lights!! my legal vehicle is now illegal and not at my own fault but through Chrysler/Dodge.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2014

Vehicle would not start, would start then it would shut off within a few seconds of being on, this would be repeated several times before the vehicle would stay on and we could drive it. Sometimes it would be fine for the rest of the day, other times it would be a continued problem throughout the same day. This has been ongoing since the first incident back in April 2014 . We notified the dealer the problem still existed, but they did not find a solution. We informed the dealer of problems with the tipm module and that we felt this was the problem, the dealer denied this was the problem and said that the battery was the problem. We are extremely concerned that the fuel line relay remains active and engaged while the vehicle is standing, this could be potentially life threatening if it were to be rear ended or hit by a moving vehicle. We are concerned that our children, anyone in the vehicle could be seriously injured or killed if this were to happen. With hundreds of complaints from consumers with Chrysler/Dodge vehicles experiencing the very same problem and with a national back order on the very part that needs fixing, we find it unconscienable that there hasn't been a recall!!.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Vehicle had problems starting earlier in the day. Aprox 3am neighbors knocked on our windows saying it was on fire. Fire dept put fire out whixh started in engine compartment. Total loss.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

Tipm was replaced and vehicle started to do the same similar things, however, this time it locked my 9 yr. Old daughter in the vehicle with it running and the key fob was in the vehicle. She had to unbuckle and let me in. The electrical system still has a mind of its own, stalls in road at different speeds, also while driving it acts like the engine is shutting off then it comes back, and continues this procedure a few times until it finally comes back to life. 4low has not properly worked ever, and is a danger when in an emergency situation, and you need it. They say they have redesigned the 4low, evidentally there are problems with it. The dealership, sheets, says there's nothing wrong with the part again. Vehicle starts and dies, stalls in road, acts like it's going to stall and comes back, controls inside vehicle do whatever they want to do when they want to. Front signal light keeps blowing, and will not take a bulb, it blows them out every time, so when blinker is turned on the fog lights flash up front, like hazard flashers. The back passenger bulb has been replaced many times, and for now they are the only signals working, except for the ones on the mirrors. Fuel pump stays on sometimes after vehicle is shut off. Basically the vehicle is still a danger to anyone inside it, and to anyone on the road, due to the fact that it can cause an accident at any given time. The vehicle locked up in 4low/tow-haul mode, and then the entire transmission locked up. Had to come home approx. 1-2 miles at a very low speed, with hazard lights on, and then had to coast in driveway because the transmission had no gears, and locked up. Dodge really needs to recall this. If they designed this vehicle correctly the first time none of the maintenance would be necessary, and we would not have had to call Dodge so many times. If the problem was not reoccurring the issue would be resolved.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

Was having problems with our car starting and took it in and was advised that there was a problem with the tipm our warranty did not cover the repairs so had to wait about 4 months to fix it as it was a $1200. 00 out of pocket expense. After they fixed that problem only a year after I bought the vehicle they advised that my trans cooler was leaking transmission fluid and it would cost apporximately $900. 00 to fix that. My CO-worker has the same model Durango and has the same problem. Poor manufacturing I guess, I hope they issue a recall this is ridiculous to have a car only two years and have to make two major repairs on it. Not happy with the Dodge Durango at all!!!.
