1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2024

Electric problem.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2023

I bought this vehicle second hand and was not warned of any recalls. I started having problems in April of 2023. Windshield wipers would turn on by themself, car would randomly shut off. I brought to several shops and nobody could figure out why it was reading “high voltage”. The car then started having occasional problems shifting. I eventually got on mopar website to be made aware there were 3 recalls and alternator was one of them. I called musson patout Dodge in new iberia, la and made an appointment to fix my car. On the morning of our appointment the car died in the road on the way to Dodge and wouldn’t restart without a jump. I brought it in and over the son of 3 days the fixed all the recalls. On my way to pick it up they called and made me aware it would need a new battery I told them I will go replace it as soon as I get the car. Since I picked up the car the shifting problems have not stopped. I have had a code reading “implausible data from tcm”. I have had a mechanic tell me this recalled alternator going out is what cause this tcm to go out and musson refuses to take it in and even diagnose it without over $170 that I don’t have to spend anymore. This is consequential damage that Dodge should be held liable for and they are giving me the most difficult time, it’s my only vehicle for me and my 2 kids and I cant even drive it anymore.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2022

This family car had recall back in August fuel module for powertrain check engine light got it fix and few days later check engine turn on and has turned off since car slows down on freeway wont pick up speed and stall on me twice already with kids in car was going 65 and all sudden slow down wiuldnt pick up acceleration and turn off has run good since still having issues dealership says noting wrong with it.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

Upon approach to a left turn yield, I attempted to accelerate into traffic when the automatic transmission failed into 4th gear ( transmission shift solenoid) and was unable to shift up or down through the gears and was unable to shift into the drive position. There were no other indications of failure prior to this point, I. E no engine or transmission warning lights. If there would have been oncoming traffic at the time of entry into the flow of traffic it may have caused a catastrophic rear end accident due to the vehicle inability to accelerate as usual. Will have the vehicle serviced immediately. This has happened once before with the same vehicle approximately 2 years ago and the transmission shift solenoid was the issue and had been replaced by a local service center at the time.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2021

Lifter and limp mode problems. There is noise comming from engine. Took to shop and found out reason for noise and low power was lifters and is a very common problem. What brought the safety thing up is wife was in accident in March because couldn't get out of way quick enough. Had vehicle towed to shop from accident site and body repair. Thought was just a fluke and had damage repaired and noticed a ticking and power problems immediately after accident repair. Took to Dodge dealer and found out common problem with the lifters cam and limp mode. Had at same repair shop for other recall 2 months prior for recall and inspection with no noise or issues.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

2012 Dodge Durango has history of starting and stalling problem. While vehicle was under warranty, it would stall right after you start it. The dealer performed fuel pump relay recall, and problem was not fixed. The next dealer remove the external fuel pump relay and replaced tipm, problem was still not fixed. Dealer then re-completed the fuel pump relay recall, problem still not fix. Now the vehicle is stalling while driving down the road and seems to happen when you turn the steering wheel. There is a recall for this issue (t36) but Dodge is saying that my vehicle does not qualify for that recall. This is a very dangerous issue and is can/will lead to a vehicle accident when we can't control the vehicle going down the highway as it keeps shutting off.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

I was driving 65 mph when I noticed the 4wd low light come on without having switched to that setting. The car engine was racing. I came to a stop at a safe spot, shifted into park and switched the 4wd low knob to the normal position of awd. I didn't notice any issues for several months; the car was operational. Then, I was driving less than 10 mph in 2wd on a gravel driveway. The car shifted into awd for a couple of seconds on a muddy spot, then the awd off light came on the dash, along with the service awd light. I took the car to a repair shop to diagnose the problem. The car was running in 2wd and I didn't switch it to 4wd low. The repair person shifted it into 4wd low and it got stuck there. The repair person said it was the transfer motor case or a sensor, without 100 certainty. I'm concerned that, even if replaced and repaired with current models of the transfer motor case, the car will unexpectedly shift into 4wd low while driving on an interstate and case damage to the car and an accident.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2018

Using the push button start system, with the engine off, the brake pedal not depressed, and the transmission gear selector set to p(ark). When the push button start is pressed twice, the vehicle attempted to start up, and started to move on it's own. There was nobody in the driver seat, the brake pedal was not depressed, the transmission was in park. Blue water Chrysler dealership in fort gratiot, mi has verified this to be happening and reproducible.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

The vehicle stalls while driving (very intermittently). Does not log any engine codes and mainly happens on deceleration. But has happened at highway speeds when exiting the freeway and also at low speeds when coming to a stop sign. When the engine stalls you loose power steering and brakes but all of the electronics keep working radio, lights, etc. . . I have called Chrysler care opened a case, which they assisted in scheduling an appointment for the vehicle at the local Dodge dealer. The case was closed by Chrysler since the dealership could not duplicate the problem. We bought this vehicle with 50,000 miles on it and it now has 76,000 and has stalled on us several times I would say (12) over the 26,000 miles we have pout on it. If you google this complaint/problem with the 2011/2012 Durango it is widely known and a very serious issue to be ignoring, someone is going to be killed because of this.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

My 2012 Dodge Durango purchased brand new has been having major electrical issues since the motor was power washed at covert Dodge dealership in north austin. They had an inexperienced car washer clean up the oil that was on the motor from a hose change. He used a very high pressure, pressure washer and it shorted the electronics causing the vehicle to shut down unexpectedly with no warning. This has happened multiple times within the last 6 months. I have had the car at 3 different Dodge dealers trying to resolve the issue. On 9/22/2016 the battery light came on while going 75 on the highway. I smelled a strong odor of electrical burning and all the lights on the dash board came on, the blind spot alert system was stating it was inoperable, the ac stopped working, the seat belt light and buzzer stated to go off even though my belt was fastened and then the Durango just shut off, right in the middle of the toll road highway stranding me in the middle lane. The hazard lights did not even work. I put the car in park to try to restart it but it was totally dead, nothing worked and the car was stuck in park! I could not put the vehicle in neutral to move it out of the highway, several cars did not realize I was stopped and locked up their brakes nearly missing me. I was so afraid someone was going to run right into the back of me and the car. Major safety issue. I called the mopar warranty road side assistance and 1 ½ hours later I was able to get the car off the 102 degree highway. As a result of all of these issues, which seem to have started when covert Dodge power washed the engine bay, I am no longer confident the vehicle can be trusted and be reliable not to mention the safety factor. As you can tell from the vehicle history, I feel I have been patient and cooperative in allowing Chrysler and the dealerships to find a resolution.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2015

There's this weird looking aluminum tube about 7 feet long that twists and turns under the vehicle that carries the freon that supplies the cold air conditioning in my truck. So exactly where the tube goes next to the muffler it got corroded and I had to replace it with a new one. Almost $1k in parts and labor and truck only had about 60,000 miles on it and I had only used the air conditioning seldomly during 3 summers. The new aluminum tube that was bought had a thicker part right by the muffler, meaning engineers knew the original part was too thin in my opinion.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

Driving normally for about an hour. Made 10 minute stop. Came out and car would not fire. Cranked for 20 seconds twice and nothing. Waited 5 minutes and it started. Went to pull out into traffic and it stalled. Cranked again, nothing. Then started. It happened again 2 days later. Took to dealer and they said it was a faulty tipm and not covered by warranty.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 29 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate past 29 mph. In addition, the passenger side turn signal and the driver side tail light intermittently operated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was due to cold weather and no repairs were needed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

I currently purchased a 2012 Dodge Durango with the v-6 engine. I noticed a similar issue when starting out, at about 22 mph to 27mph it feels like there is a power drop-off if accelerating normal. If you accelerate faster the drop-off is not present but a speeding ticket maybe coming. Current millage 36,275.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that on many occasions the vehicle would not immediately start. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer canandaigua Chrysler Dodge(2591 rochester rd, canandaigua, NY) and the starter had been replaced multiple times but the failure continued. Recently the fuel pump was also replaced but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 46,000. Jft.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

Vehicle starts then stalls out, or just cranks and cranks, and won't start. Happened a few times at stop lights after short drive. Was able to finally get started to drive to dealer, was told I could either replace the tipm for over $1000, or do a fuel relay bypass to the existing tipm for a little over $550. Same exact problem all the recalled Durango/grand cherokees have, yet the 2012's haven't been recalled? why? vehicle left us stranded multiple times in FL heat with infant in car.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired at the tuttle click toftin Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram dealer for taking a long time to crank. After unknown repairs were performed, the vehicle stalled while driving at various speeds. On one occasion, while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact stated that the failure occurred frequently and, in order to restart the vehicle, the gear shifter had to be placed in neutral or park. The contact restarted the vehicle and it began to pull to the right, veered off the road, and crashed into a bridge wall. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The shield over the wheel well detached, and the front passenger side tire, spoiler, and rim were damaged due to the crash. The contact took the vehicle back to the tuttle click toftin Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram dealer, but it was not repaired due to the repairs being at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and authorized the dealer to provide a second repair; however, it was not verified if the repair would be free of charge. The vehicle was not repaired a second time as of yet. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2014

I have a 2012 Dodge durange rt. When parked at a gas station, tried to turn engine on with push start switch and engine does not start. When pushing start switch again it makes the sound like the engine is trying to turn over but does nothing. In order to get the engine to stop from making the turn over noise I have to move from park to in gear. Then I receive the "ignition or accessory on" message. In order to get the message clear I have to turn off vehicle without pressing the brake. This puts the engine into the off mode and I have to start the process to get the car to start all over again. This has happened multiple occasions and I have video to show the defect. I have done research and read this issue with many people saying it is the tipm defect. Also, when using my right blinker instead of the front blinker working my fog lights flash. For the vehicle to not start or stall is a big safety concern and liability.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2013

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While the vehicle was idling at a traffic light, there was a delay in acceleration without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While driving 50 mph, the transmission independently shifted into first gear and the vehicle decelerated to 20 mph. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently approximately four times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for diagnostic testing; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

I have had an intermittent transmission/electronic malfunction. After starting the vehicle and moving the shift lever from "p" (park) to "d" (drive) the numeral "4" is displayed in the evic (electronic vehicle information center) where one would expect to see the letter "d". At this point when the accelerator is pushed the vehicle moves forward but with a distinct lack of power. When moving the shift lever to the left -- the ers (electronic range select) function of the shift lever in non-functioning -- the vehicle stays in 4th gear and the numeral in the evic window is still "4". The vehicle is "stuck" in 4th gear. The only way to return the vehicle to "normal" function is to turn it off and restart the engine. Upon restart the problem has never repeated itself. The incident has happened numerous times and has been documented (video using an iphone) on 4 separate occasions. I have taken the vehicle to the service department of the dealer where I purchased it several times, and on each occasion different "fixes" have been attempted. The "malfunction" happened again on April 9th, 2014, the most recent occurrence.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

Brand new vehicle lease. At dealership when vehicle was put in gear engine stalled 4 times. Salesman entered vehicle and accelerated engine then put in gear and vehicle continued to run and stated vehicle was ok. About 30 miles away when coming to a stop because of traffic vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy 50mph intersection and was almost struck by a oncoming tractor trailer. After locking up his brakes an accident was just barely avoided. It took 4 tries to get the Durango to move again without shutting off. Vehicle is at the dealer now and they do not know as of yet what the problem is and refuse to give me a different vehicle. My family could have been killed.
