41 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2020

The drivers headrest active head restraint deployed during normal driving conditions. It appears that the plastic holding the pin to keep it in place broke releasing the pin and the headrest. So the feature designed to keep the driver safe became the hazard.

43 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2020

The passenger headrest deployed while a passenger was sitting in seat. I ( the owner of the car) was parked in a parking lot and the car was not in motion. We had driven to a restaurant and were waiting, parked in a space, ignition running, for our food to be brought out to the car. We heard a loud bang, my daughter shrieked and then we figured out that the headrest popped out. She has a sore neck but minor injuries, however, had the car been in motion and the driver's headrest deployed, the situation could have been different.

Passenger side headrest deployed while driving on a highway. Seat was unoccupied, car going about 35 mph, with no collision or braking occurring to set off the headrest.

45 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2020

Travelling on highway at 60 mph passenger headrest suddenly deployed. There was no braking or unusual activity. Our 12 year old son was in the passenger seat, was knocked on the head by it, but no injury. Vehicle has around 120,000 miles, has had no other major issues, and been in no prior accidents. I find this "safety feature" completely un-necessary, and an expensive over-kill. A standard headrest is sufficient.

46 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2020

I drove over a pothole on a city street. I was traveling at 35 mph, which resulted in front passenger headrest to pop out. Luckily no one was in the seat. The headrest will not close back.

47 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2020

Wife was driving in a residential area going aprox15mph. Did not hit anything orwas not struck by anything. Was struck in the head throwing her head violently forward, by the drivers side headrest deploying. She was shocked as she had no idea what had happened. She immediately felt pain and light headedness. Returned home less than block from the headrest deploying. I took her to er, after 2 hrs determined she had a concussion and strained muscles in her neck, basically whiplash.

49 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2020

While traveling on vacation, and at the time parked in a rest area, the front passenger headrest randomly exploded in my 2014 Dodge Durango. Luckily nobody was sitting in the seat at the time and no injury occurred. We bought this vehicle new and it has never been in a crash. Nothing occurred to cause this headrest to do this. Plastic pieces are broken and the headrest cannot be reset, it has to be replaced. The estimate for this repair is over $700. My wife drives this vehicle as a daily driver and I am concerned that the drivers seat headrest will do the same thing while we are driving, causing an accident.

50 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2020

Passenger side headrest deployed while operating vehicle. There was headrest damage in the process, making the fastener unrepairable. I do not see a current open recall on this issue, even though there are numerous complaints about the same issue online.

51 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2020

Driver side headrest inadvertently deployed while operating vehicle. Headrest fastener damage in the process making the fastener unrepairable. Dealer states there is no current open recall on this issue even though there even though there are numerous complaints about the same issue online.

52 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2019

I was cleaning my car (stationary in driveway) on 11/3/2019 and noticed a piece of plastic on the floorboard. I looked up to see where it might have came from and noticed the driver seat headrest was separating. I attempted to push the two pieces back together and the headrest fully deployed. Upon inspection I could see that the clip that holds a metal pin had failed. The plastic piece I found was part of this clip. Very grateful I was not driving when this happened. This vehicle is only 4 years old. It is not stored in the heat or sun. Now we get to wait for the eventual failure of the passenger side active head restraint. Safety devices should not cause injury.

53 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

While vehicle was sitting stationary in my driveway over night, the passenger side headrest deployed. The vehicle was unoccupied and not in motion. The vehicle has 121,000 miles on it. Online research revealed this is a common occurrence with over 30 incidents already documented. This safety related item needs to be identified for recall.

59 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2019

The driver headrest active head restraint safety device deployed without warning during normal driving. There was no impact, etc. , that would cause the device to deploy. The device errantly deployed. The headrest came in sharp and sudden contact with the rear of my head while in motion on a city street, not turning. Through online research I noted that this seems to be a common issue.

60 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2019

While driving, with no warning, the active head restraint deployed on the drivers seat, knocking me in the back of the head with force, momentarily causing me to lose control.

61 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2019

I was driving to church at about 20 mph when I heard a noise and felt a bump striking my head. The drivers headrest was deployed. It seems like some plastic clips or parts inside just broke. . .

64 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

One day while my wife was driving with my 23 year old daughter in the front passenger seat they was sitting at a red light and the headrest burst forward hitting my daughter in the back of the head. Ever since that day she now has issues with vertigo and has dizzy spells at least 2 times a month.

65 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2019

The headrest on my 2014 Dodge Durango started to separate on one side and would not snap back in place. Within a week, it self-deployed while I was driving and hit me in the back of the head. There had been no impact or cause for the headrest to deploy. On inspection, I found the plastic bracket that held the metal housing had failed and was broken in several pieces. The metal housing is still locked showing that the headrest had not deployed due to impact.

66 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2018

The passenger headrest active head restraint safety device deployed without warning during normal driving. There was no impact, etc. , that would cause the device to deploy. The device errantly deployed. Had a passenger been in the vehicle this could have resulted in serious injury. The vehicle was in motion on a city street. Through online research I noted that this seems to be a common issue.

67 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

As I was driving to my son's football game, my headrest deployed and violently hit me in the back of the head. I hadn't hit anything or a pothole. I lost control of the car momentarily, but thankfully was not around other vehicles and was only going about 30 mph. It sounded like my airbag had deployed, but after looking around to find what happened, I noticed my passenger side headrest was out and so I felt behind my head and sure enough it had deployed as well. I ended up going to the er because of a head injury as I was disoriented and dizzy and had light sensitivity. I have been diagnosed with whiplash and have had headaches everyday since the accident. I am also seeing a chiropractor because my back is all messed up as well.

68 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

The active restraint headrest on passenger side front seat deployed while sitting over night in the driveway. Vehicle has 104,000 miles and there hasn't been any rear end impacts. It appears that the part that holds the pin has broken allowing the headrest to deploy and the pin is still in the latch it's self. There in not any current recall on this but if it happens while someone is setting in the seat it could cause a head or neck injury or if it is the driver cause an accident.

69 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

While stopped with the vehicle in park after just coming off of the interstate at a truck stop, the passenger side active headrest popped. No damage had occurred to the vehicle, no large bumps or curbs were hit. Luckily we were stopped and no injury occurred. Unfortunately this is a huge expense to fix at a dealership (over $700 just for the part plus shop hours making it about a $1000 expense not covered by warranty!) this is a huge safety concern - 1. If we are now in a collision prior to repair will our airbags deploy as this is part of the whole system (and the one is already sprung so could damage occur because of that) 2. If we had been driving and it were to deploy and hit someone it the back of the head it could easily cause an accident causing injury or even death to occupants and to occupants of other vehicles! this could be extremely dangerous!.

70 Front Seat Head Restraint problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

While driving at approx. 40 miles per hour, the drivers side head rest exploded causing my head to move slam forward. I though someone had hit me from behind but looked and there was no one there. Pulled over to the side of the road to find the head rest apart. I contacted a local dealer and they asked if I ran into a curb, hit a large bump or was involved in an accident and was sorry to hear that happened. After research on the internet, there are several reports of these headrest exploding randomly on several Dodge models specifically the Durango. My vehicle is a 2014 with 29k miles on it, never in an accident and barely driven.
