Water has gotten into the taillight which causes the led lights to short out.

38 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2020

I have already went through 3 rear tracklights on this vehicle (it is the large taillap on the back of the car) the most recent photo shows a lot of water in it.

39 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2020

Liftgate race track lighting fills with water. One portion of the led went out, now the entire light is burned out.

40 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

The rear center lift gate racetrack light (lower right passenger side) is dim and flickers on and off like if I were applying the brakes. This is both when in motion and stationary. I believe water or moisture accumulates in that area. I believe it's a safety hazard and could cause an electrical taillight failure causing an accident. My vehicle is only 5 yrs old and shouldn't be having this problem. I see a lot of 2015 models with that exact same problem and feel that Dodge has a responsibility to its costumers in fixing this. Thank you.

41 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2020

2015 Durango rt/awd - water pools in the center tail lamp led and shorts it out, making not only the "race track" portion of the led lighting fail, but the tag lighting also, ticket issued from highway patrol. Replacement module is $700+ this is a well know and common occurrence.

42 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2020

Water has infiltrated the rear liftgate racetrack led light on 2015 Dodge Durango. Portion of the light is out. Much information has been posted about this as a design flaw with Dodge. Eventually the entire light fails as well as the license plate light and becomes a safety issue while operating at dusk or night as rear of vehicle is not illuminated. Dodge should issue a recall to have this replaced and sealed to prevent it from happening further. This problem has been well documented. To repair, owner is responsible to have light replaced at an exuberant cost. I believe Dodge should repair at no cost as this is a safety issue.

43 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

2015 Durango sxt - water pools in the center tail lamp led and shorts it out, making it fail. Replacement is $700+ due to demand. This is a well know and common occurrence.

44 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2019

On third generation Dodge Durango's (2014-2020), water and moisture can get inside the racetrack light on the rear of the vehicle, causing the light to stop working in multiple places, and in colder climate, can cause the moisture to freeze and the light to crack. While the vehicle is running at night, the racetrack light is the only light that is constantly on. With water and moisture causing the light to discontinue operation, as well cause other electrical/lighting issues, it could become a very serious driving hazard. Water is currently inside the light on my vehicle, and frozen solid, causing the light to malfunction. Attached picture will show evidence. Vehicle was stationary when light started malfunctioning. Vehicle had never been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Light has never been removed from vehicle.

45 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2019

Water is filling inside the rear tracklight and taillight.

46 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that water leaked into a hole into the taillights on both the driver and passanger sides. This caused the lights to short out leaving no tailight or llumination when driving at night. The dealer liccardi Chrysler Dodge ram 130 us-22, green brook township, NJ 08812 (732) 752-7373 stated that since the 33,000 mile warrenty had expired there was nothing they could do to cover the repairs. The manufacturer gave the contact a complaint number but said there was nothing they could do as well. The whole track light unit would have to be replaced at a cost $2,500. The failure mileage was 77,000. Tf.

47 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Rear tail gets water damage causing led to go dark.

48 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Water is pooling in my track lighting. I have to take the bolts out to empty it. Now the lights are failing!!!.

49 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

My rear led light bar is out. I looked and there is water inside of the light bar. There are gaps all around the light bar which is how the water is getting in. Warranty is trying to deny coverage. This has to be a manufacturing issue. There is a lot of proper with the same issue that I am having.

50 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

Rear tail panel of led strips is out at all times, causing a safety concern. Started with lower right side of ribbon light out, now the entire strip is out, including the required tag lights. Started when I only had about 60k miles on it. Contacted Dodge dealership and they state they're aware of the problem but it will cost at least 1k just for the part, not including labor.

51 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

Water got into the led housing on the tailgate and all lights on tailgate then went out causing an expensive repair I now need. I went to milford (PA) Dodge dealership when I first noticed water pooling in the light. ( not even 2 months after purchase) and they told me there's nothing they can do to fix it. And the cpo they gave me won't cover the repair. This vehicle had 18k on it when I first noticed the water!!! this should be a recall as it is a very common complaint with these trucks and Dodge is doing nothing about it! nearly every Durango I see has an led out due to this.

52 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

The "racetrack" taillight system has a systemic issue with water infiltrating the enclosed sealed led taillight system. This caused portions of the taillights to burn out and cause lower visibility than intended. Warranty companies consider this a "serviceable" part like normal bulbs, brakes, tires, etc. The problem is that this "serviceable" part is an all enclosed unit and not a simple bulb replacement. You have to replace the entire panel at a cost of nearly $1000!!! or just drive with the limited safety of a fully functioning taillight system. This seems like a safety issue and once one section goes out the rest usually follow. This design flaw should not be considered a serviceable part and fc should be made to remedy the problem and fix this issue at their expense.

53 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2019

Taillights fill with moisture causing bulbs to burnout & create hazard when braking. Seals to keep moisture out need to be replaced or updated.

54 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

Backup lamp assembly part number 68155950aj has water inside if it. Dodge claims its a "light" and will not fix the issue. Its a $700. 00 light. Many different web sites have the same frustrated customers complaining about the same issue. Seal goes bad and water gets in, lots of water.

55 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

Water is collecting inside of the tail-gate lights assembly causing it's complete failure - no lights mounted on the tailgate are working.

56 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Water infiltration into raceway rear light-led shorted out and no longer works. Not sure when or how it entered.

57 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

The rear hatch light assemby has a leak and holds water. Took to dealer for repairs was told led lights not covered under warranty. This is not a defect in led lights, its a defect in the assembly which is causing led lights to malfunction, which is a danger to myself and others as if the lights go out due to the defect I will have no back lights which could cause a vehicle behind me to not be able to see my vehicle in time to stop causing a rearend collision. This is defective manufacturing, which could also cause a short in the vehicle which could cause a fire. It is not condensation or moisture as everytime it rains or its washed the assembly fills with water. This is very dangerous to myself as well as others.

58 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

Defective middle light housing of rear taillights, which separates over time and allows water to pool in lower light bar, around leds - eventually leading to led failure. This appears to be a known issue for Dodge. I have had the middle led taillight section replaced once by Dodge Feb 2018 at approximately 33,000 miles. Now after 15 months, at approximately 44,000 miles the exact situation is happening again. The taillight has separated again and is allowing water to enter into the led section, again leading to led failure as shown in attachment.

59 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2019

60,000 mile garage kept Durango with p0455 (evap purge hose crack) check engine light. Warranty is out (so much for my extended warranty- wont cover) and dealership wont repair without charging me. There are numerous TSB 25-002-15 regarding this problem. Issue a recall. . Rear taillights all leak water. Moisture and water is visible and the car hasn't been wet in some time. My complaint matches the others out there. Facory lights leaking causing damage to the lighting aspect and safety of my vehicle and other around me. Dealership wont replace, warranty wont cover. Pricing is absurdly high to replace. This is a safety issue and a recall need to issued. I bought this vehicle in good faith that Dodge and warranty people would take care of issues that are manufacturer related. Not so!!.

60 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2019

Tailgate center race track lighting completely out. Water gets in both sides of the center light and now just yesterday the entire assembly went out and does not illuminate at all.

61 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

Rear twilight which was replaced once (9/17) as a goodwill outside of warranty replacement is leaking again and will not pass state inspection. Dealership and warranty company both refusing to replace again.

62 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

The light assembly on the liftgate has water in it and the light has gone out.

63 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

Water is filling up in the bottom of the race track lights in the rear. This is apparently a common defect in the design of the casing that a lot of people are having.

64 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2019

Race track taillight on rear decklid has water pooling in the bottom right corner of light!.

65 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

Water and moisture get into the rear light strip and causes led light failure. You cant fix the problem, just buy a new light assembly at $1000 and pray that doesnt get water in that one. Problem causes vehicle to fail inspection and poses a huge safety problem.

66 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

Brought my 2015 Dodge Durango in for a state inspection. Was told that there was a computer error message stating "liftgate park lamp short". The service person stated that there was water in the light, and that I would need to have it replaced to pass inspection for roughly $1200. When asked how the water got in, he did not know. Because water was the cause of the short, it was not covered by the maximum care vehicle protection warranty that I purchased when I bought the car. When I googled the problem, I saw that many others were having the same issues and were completing this form to have NHTSA look into the problem with water leaking into the light.

67 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

I recently noticed still water inside my rear center tail lamp on the lift gate while parked before leaving home, that wouldn't leave, as a result of this a portion of the lamp had went out and no longer worked, eventually the entire lamp stopped working now causing a safety concern as I am now less visible to those behind me and causing me to be ticketed several times from law enforcement because of the lamp being out which is now turning this into a $2000 plus problem. I have done my research and have learned that thousands of other Durango owners from 2014 and 2015 are having this same issue and this needs to be a recalled part. I also have younger siblings that use my truck from time to time to travel to work and school and a grandmother who drives my vehicle at times and I can no longer let them drive my vehicle because I don't want them to destroy their driving record with constant tickets because of the lamp being out nor my grandmother or possibly getting into an accident due to the difficulty of being seen from behind now.

68 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2019

Light on tailgate filled with water.

69 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

The rear "racetrack" tail lamp which spans the liftgate fills with water. This is the second tail lamp assembly on my vehicle. The first one was replaced by Dodge under warranty. Less than 1 year later, the replacement is also leaking. Several reports of water in the lens causing ultimate failure of the electronics and the lamp.

70 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2019

My racetrack taillight in the back of my 2015 Dodge Durango has accumulated water build up on both sides of it and has caused the left part of the unit to short out. It is absolutely absurd that Chrysler will not cover this because about half the Durangos I see on the road have this as well. It is nothing myself, or any other of the other owners on the road have done to make this happen, it is a design flaw in the vehicle. I suggest maybe allocating some of the cherokee and wrangler revenue over to pay for this in order to keep customers safe considering the unit is $1200. 00. That's a pretty hefty expense for someone to have to incur if they didn't do anything to bring it upon themselves. This happened to the vehicle shortly after I bought it. I don't need to include a picture because everyone at Chrysler is fully aware of the description of the problem due to how many people share the same concerns. Again, it's crazy how this is not covered.
