Had to make a sudden stop and abs system was dangerously slow to engage, release and re-engage. Brake pedal went all the way down to the floor and barely stopped before hitting vehicle in front of me. Took it to 2 dealers and both said there was nothing wrong according to specifications. Major safety hazard!.

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango with 4wd and it has 37,000 miles on it. I have to change both front wheel brake rotors. When I took the brake pads out, I found that on both wheels the inside brake pad has been completely worn out and pitted into the rotor while both outside brake pads has only less than 1/3 wear out of the material. It looks like the disk brake system in the front wheel has some kind of design flaw. I am a very good mechanical engineer, I think the clip located on the outside of the disk brake prevented the outside pad from effectively engaging with the rotor when the brake was applied.
Returned vehicle to dealer complaining of poor antilock brake performance and excessive pedal travel. Dealer resurfaced front rotors/replaced pads. Vibration from run out is gone but poor antilock performance and excessive pedal travel still exits. Dealer states all is fine. Excessive stopping distance contributed to first accident.
I was traveling about 35 mile per hour on a sunny day, dry pavement, temperature was about 78 degrees. A car about 30 feet in front of me had stop to turn. I applied my brakes and they seem to grab and lock and my car would not stop. At that point I was approximately 20 or so feet from the car in front of me I hit the brakes again, felt the car surge forward and then the brakes totally totally locked up and I hit the car in front of me. During this time the brakes made a loud clucking noise and was squealing extremely loud. The police record shows 20 feet of skid marks. This was scariest experience I have had in my life knowing that my daughter was in the car with me and my brakes would not stop, eventhough I had plenty of time to stop. I have had my 2000 Dodge Durango for almost 3 1/2 years, during that time I have had the brakes and replaced and less than 3 months ago the drum and rotors replaced. I am definitely a maintenance kind of person when it comes to my truck. There have been about 3 occassions in the last 3 1/2 years when I felt like my brakes were about to give. The first two resulted in service work on my brakes. The final one as you can see resulted in an accident. I have contacted my insurance company notifying them that other 2000 Dodge Durango drivers have experienced the same problems. My car is currently in the shop and my insurance company is going to have a brake specialist examine my brake system. The Dodge company really needs to look at what this issue with the brakes in the 2000 Dodge Durango since this definitely does not appear to be an isolated incident. I am know considering trading in my Durango as soon as I can get the funds to put down on another vehicle.

Vehicle took longer to stop. As result, consumer's vehicle was involved in an accident. Dealer stated there was a marginal problem with the brakes.
Had a car length & 1/2 in front of me, I do this because I have had problems before with the car not stopping. Applied brakes normally, car slowed & pulled to the right but would not stop. Applied brakes with both feet - literally lifted myself up on the seat during applying of brakes & still would not stop. Rear ended car in front.
After pulling out of a driveway, vehicles in front of me came to an abrupt stop. I stepped hard on the brakes and 4wal abs brakes did not work. I was only going about 15 or 20 mph. This is the 2nd accident in 6 months but Dodge says there is nothing wrong. This did more damage than the 1st accident. What is wrong with the braking system?.
Anti-lock brakes on my 2002 Dodge durrango have put me into the middle of an intersection durring a red light ,at stops on dirt roads the rear wheels lock like the front brakes aren't working and it looks like a cracked weld on the control arm bracket on the left front. Dodge say's nothing is wrong and they won't fix it ,I have a pregnant wife and 4 kids who ride in this SUV and I can't get Dodge to fix it, OH and the steering feels loose on it to ,road walks.
While driving down freeway, vehicles in front came to an abrupt stop went to step hard on brakes but pedal went to floor. We hit the car in front of us and did a lot of damage. Dodge said there was nothing wrong.
I have talked with other owners of Dodge/Chrysler and they have had abs brake problems; please don't ignore this. As it is I can't afford to fix it for the $700. They want and have to drive it broken. . . Mr.
Brakes lock and car highly succeptable to hydroplaning when turning, especially from a stopped position, on any level of rainfall. Most serious incident involved car turning 360 degrees twice then resting opposite side of roadway, in oncoming traffic lanes, after jumping a low median, completely out of my control. I was attempting to turn on a green arrow from a dead stopped position, going approx 0-5 mph when losing control of the car. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

Front brakes lock up on wet surfaces during braking resulting in a loss of control. One time nearly slid into a curb sideways. Another time nearly slid into oncoming cross traffic at an intersection. Several times the Durango has slid in wet parking lots.
Anti-lock system failed.
Consumer called complaining about having problems with brakes not working properly. Also, rotors have been changed twice. Manufacturer was contacted, and stated that it was normal usage in the vehicle.
