1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/27/2026

Formal complaint safety recall 94b (NHTSA campaign no. 24v-838) I hereby submit this complaint regarding the failure to properly complete safety recall 94b (NHTSA campaign no. 24v-838) involving the hcu/abs module on my 2018 Dodge Durango. On December 23, 2025, I contacted an authorized Dodge dealer located at 5404 s. Illinois route 31, crystal lake, IL 60012, to remedy the hcu/abs defect under the recall. I was informed that the recall repair would be performed free of charge and an appointment was scheduled for December 29, 2025. At the scheduled visit, the vehicle was returned to me in less than 30 minutes without any recall repair being performed. Instead, I was told that paid diagnostics were required and that the estimated repair cost could range from $3,000 to $5,000. I was also informed that the recall repair could not be completed because the hcu/abs module was not in stock. The dealer later stated that the module would be ordered, but the delivery timeline was repeatedly postponed. On January 27, 2026, the vehicle was returned to me with the same hcu/abs-related malfunctions. The dealer stated that recall 24v-838 / fca 94b had been closed and refused to replace the hcu/abs module under the recall. Although fca systems reflect the recall as “completed,” the safety defect has not been remedied. The vehicle continues to display abs/esc warnings, and diagnostic trouble codes related to the braking and electronic stability control systems remain present, confirming that the defect described in the recall persists. Pursuant to 49 u. S. C. § 30118(b) and 49 cfr § 573. 6(c)(10), when a safety defect persists or reoccurs after recall repairs, the manufacturer is required to implement additional corrective measures, including repeat repair or replacement of the affected component or system. Closing a recall while the defect remains unresolved does not satisfy federal requirements. I respectfully request regulatory review and appropriate action to ensure that thi.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/15/2025

Front collision sensor will blink red amd ring a loud alarm when no vehicle is in front of me while driving on the hwy going 80 mph or similar and when it does it will apply the brakes and there are people behind me about to cause a crash. But when a vehicle pulled in front of me, the front collision sensor warning did not work at all. Vehicle was inspected by dealership and they found no issue but this has happened several different occasions.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/15/2025

I was driving slowly in heavy rain and pulled up to a red light behind another vehicle. Just as I was almost fully stopped, my car suddenly accelerated on its own and struck the vehicle in front of me. The car is equipped with an automatic braking system that should apply the brakes when there is an obstacle. Instead, not only did it fail to brake, it accelerated fully. If the car in front of us had not stopped us, we would have entered a very busy intersection, where we could have been seriously injured and might have hurt others. We were about to enter the freeway, and if this had happened there, the outcome could have been catastrophic. There were no warning lights or alerts of any kind. It happened completely out of the blue. We had the car towed to the dealer in santa barbara, where no problem was found. We then took it to the dealer in thousand oaks, where we purchased it, and again no problem was found. The vehicle’s black box was checked, but because the car was traveling under 5 mph at the time, nothing was recorded. We contacted Chrysler and reported the issue. So far, no action has been taken, and for the past week they have not even returned our calls. The incident occurred on [xxx]. We cannot drive this car. We also cannot sell it, because we cannot knowingly expose someone else to such a life-threatening risk. Since the problem has not been identified and fixed, it could happen again. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Failure Date: 05/25/2025

When backing with trailer or and hitch usage the car will not allow the driver to turn off the parking assist “off” button its been a ongoing issue with many Dodge vehicles and the dealer ships will say a update is needed and charge for it. How ever we dont know when its needed and get stuck in a parking lot tryna back up or in the middle of a street trying to back up a trailer. When you turn it off the button will turn it self back on and brake as if it is an emergency so your stuck with a trailer on the vehicle and cant park.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2023 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/27/2025

A light was coming on and off shortly after my husband and I purchase the vehicle from landers in covington TN. On 10/24/24 I showed the manger of store aj. And he advise me to make sure I address this with the service department. Misty was the lady that did my oil change and tire rotation that day. I showed her the picture, she couldn't tell me what it meant, but she started that it was probably a dirty sensor. My husband was involved in a car accident on [xxx]. He left the road way due to a deer striking a light pole. Our biggest concern is when he first hit a driveway culvert the emergency breaking did not engage and after striking the light pole. Not one air bag deploy, which could have resulted in less injuries to him. And this is the 2nd crash this vehicle has been in. The first one is when I struck a deer head on. And again the emergency braking did not engage. And from the body shop that repaired that I quote " the air bags should have deployed since you hit the deer head on" information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/04/2022

I was driving on i75 north in florida near ocala (exit 358) traveling about 70mph when I approached slowing traffic. I attempted a slow and steady stop without slamming on the brakes. The emergency braking system engaged but the vehicle failed to stop and I was not able to completely floor the brakes. In an effort to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me and causing a multiple car collision I swerved onto the grassy side of the road. Because the car would not stop completely my passenger front wheel made contact with a concrete ditch and my vehicle flipped over resulting in a total loss.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

The hydraulic control unit antilock break system module in vehicle system reads falsely for pressure in primary circuit. I use car for rental service but can no longer use it until it is fixed.

10 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/07/2022

This is the 4th time in 2 weeks that the abs system freaked. I was driving and reached 70mph and it randomly will start slowing kick on the check engine light. Blinks and then throws on the abs warning light. This has happened in summer and the 1 time it has rained day before. The system than alerted me to start/stop engine turn off and turn back on. I did do this. This happens though when I am driving. The sensors go off, a few days later. It will happen again. This is extremely dangerous ! I made a video of it this past time.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/18/2022

I am writing to formally request assistance regarding a persistent and unresolved issue with my vehicle’s uconnect system, which has now escalated into a serious safety concern. I purchased my vehicle in April 2022. Within two weeks, I began receiving an error message stating: “uconnect box requires service. Please visit an authorized dealer. ” since then, I have brought the vehicle to cutter Dodge honolulu on multiple occasions, beginning on June 1, 2022, to address this issue. Each time, I was informed that the error was due to a pending software update and that no immediate fix was available. Despite repeated service visits, including 6/30/22, 8/18/22, 11/22/22, 6/13/23, 9/1/23, 10/25/23, 12/14/23, 2/1/24, 10/3/24, and most recently on 5/22/25, the issue has never been resolved. I consistently reported the uconnect error, and each time, I was reassured that an update would eventually be released. I trusted the expertise of the dealership and continued to follow their guidance, despite the inconvenience and growing frustration. On [xxx], during a routine oil change and inspection, the situation worsened significantly. My entire radio system and associated safety features, including lane change alerts and front braking warnings, ceased functioning. I was referred to another location, where a technician (mark from store #45473) informed me that the entire radio system needed replacement. However, I was told that my warranty had expired, by only 77 miles, and that I would need to contact customer care to seek authorization for repairs. Since then, I have attempted to reach customer care at 800-334-9200 multiple times, but I have been repeatedly transferred and disconnected without resolution. I am deeply concerned that despite reporting this issue consistently since 2022, no action was taken until my warranty expired. I now face a situation where my vehicle is not only unreliable but potentially unsafe. The lack of functioning safety features and the ongoing uc information redacted pursuant to the freedom of infor.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/15/2021

The vehicle has a rear parking assist function. Via a uconnect (touchscreen) system, the function can be enabled or disabled. The uconnect system allows the operator to select whether the function will provide an audible warning or brake automatically if an object behind the vehicle is detected by any of 4 sensors installed in the rear bumper. The function can also be enabled or disabled via a physical button below the uconnect system. I purchased the vehicle new and have owned the vehicle for 3 years. I have towed boats many times. Until recently, I was able to successfully use the touchscreen or physical button to disable the function when backing up with a trailer connected. Now I cannot disable the function or braking via either method. It appears to turn off for about 1 second before turning back on. I've tested in various conditions such as park/neutral, with/without a trailer, etc. To no avail. I thought I would try resetting software in the rear parking assist controller, so I disconnected both batteries and removed the proper fuse, but that didn't fix the issue. That got me worried because the failsafe should be that if the control system goes bad, the function should be disabled. I believe this to be true, because sometimes you need to back up to avoid collisions with irresponsible drivers, etc. If you are towing a trailer, you wouldn't be able to back up if the system failed. I understand about failsafe design from working on safety-critical aircraft computers. I reviewed the users manual and information online, and found that if connected to a trailer or exceeding 7 mph in reverse, the function should disengage. However, the function has never, in 3 years, disengaged when towing a trailer, and I am unable to exceed 7 mph when towing due to the automatic braking. I tested this again by plugging a trailer into both factory-installed electrical receptacles provided with the tow package. I could not disable it. Other vehicle owners have the same issue.
