Clock spring. Horn, cruise control stop working. Airbag light on. Chrysler will not acknowledge, as well as local dealer as a problem and/or a safety nor a recall issue.
There was no event leading to this failure, my airbag light has been continuously on for a few days, and now my horn and cruise control do not work. After researching this problem I have come across a recall for the clock-spring, which only includes 1998-2000 models. But have also read numerous complaints of it on the 2001 model as well. I have sent an email to daimler Chrysler and have not gotten a response yet. I hope it does not take a serious injury or a death to have this part of the original recall.
My 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan airbag light is on. My horn and cruise control do not work as a result. Contact Dodge via email and was told this was not a recall item for my Dodge Grand Caravan. This seems to be a "clockspring" issue. This was a issue on the 2000 Dodge caravan- recall number 04v480000.
First my airbag light came on. Then my controls for my radio on my steering wheel quit working. Then my horn quit working. Then my cruise control quit working. This happened in about a 2 month time. I have been told by a couple of mechanics that there is a recall out for this problem. It seems to have a recall for other Dodge vehicles but not my model. Why?.
Nothing unusual leading up to this incident. The airbag light and our radio volume controls on the steering wheel for our 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan were not working. After paying $70 to diagnose the dealer told us the clockspring was not working (it was "open"). I see that the prior year (2000) of caravan has this same problem. Dodge issued a recall with lifetime warranty as this is not supposed to happen.
Airbag light comes on intermittently, particularly on turns. Talked with local Chrysler dealer and his assessment pointed to the clockspring. Researched on internet and it certainly appears there is an issue with this item. Dealer indicated it is not covered by warranties or recall and would cost in excess of $200 to replace. I believe this to be a manufacturers defect and should be replaced at no cost to the customer. No accidents or adverse effects encountered to date.
I recently bought a 2001 Dodge caravan from a buy here pay here dealer. I ran a carfax report and said it came into south carolina 5/28 2007 with 70743miles on it the dealer who sold it to me repossed it at 79,608 miles which I thought was original miles. I found a receipt in the glove box which I have proof it was in balt. Maryland 5/13 2006 with 71,951 in and out with major repairs. What I want to know what is the real mileage and if there is away I can verify . I have the check engine light and air bag lights staying on. Have I bought hidden used lemon or what?I know when tou sign papers here and it says as is is law. Do you have any suggestions on what to do or am I just stuck?.

The contact stated the air bag light has been illuminating intermittently since 2003. The contact noticed the light illuminates once the vehicle has heated up. The vehicle was taken to the dealership on July 1, 2003 but they were unable to duplicate the problem therefore no repairs were made. On December 27, 2004 the vehicle was taken back to the dealership while the light was illuminated. The dealership replaced a failed clock spring but the repair was unsuccessful.
I currently own a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan-sport edition. The vehicle had an airbag clock spring replaced when the vehicle had about 25,000 miles. Today the vehicle has 48,600 miles on it. The airbag light has come on once again just like the first time the clock spring failed. When the vehicle is in warm weather the light goes off. This has happened several times in the last few weeks. I have contacted the dealer that repaired it, I have been told that there is no current recall for this problem. I have been able to find a recall for model years 1998-2000 that describes the same issue with the clock spring. I feel that the problem was not corrected for this model year as well. Can you please investigate this similar problem?.
Airbag light keeps coming on & off intermittently along with warning bell. Took to dealership. Dealer said driver squibb circuit open & they replaced the clockspring assembly.
When hitting a bump at any speed, the air bag light illuminated. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
