1 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

Air bag failure reported to Dodge in 2003 and many attempts to have it fixed have failed. Code says passanger air bag defective and air bag light comes on. In many years the dealer has not fixed the problem. They simply reset the code to turn the light off and later it comes back on. The first reported failures were under the warranty. Then they charge $ 100. 00 to turn the light and this has happened over 10 times in the past years. This is a manufacturing problem (not a wear item) and should be fixed under the warranty. The dealer now wants over a 1,000 to remove the dash asm justr to determine if it is a wiring, connection problem or if the air bag is actually bad. I have all the service records verifying my claim.

2 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2017

The airbag light comes on each time I start the engine and stays on .

3 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The trouble coded detected that the front passenger's side seat belt pretensioner was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Js.

4 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Air bag light stays on, when I use turn signal to turn left the right one comes on and vice versa, one head light will come on and after a while the other one will turn itself on, went out one night to eat and when entering the van with the automatic unlock key the security alarm went off nothing worked what we did so we had to unhook the battery for 20 mins. I was told that weird things happen when the clock spring goes bad. I was told that all 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan's had recalls on the clock spring and when I called the Dodge dealer close to me I was told my VIN wasn't in the system and they refused to repair the problem.

5 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Grand Caravan. While the vehicle was idling when the driver got into the vehicle, the passenger airbag deployed hitting the passenger in the face. The passenger was elderly and had a mental disability and suffered great emotional trauma, however he did not sustain any injuries. The dealer was informed and they stated that there was nothing they could do and there was no one they could call and file complaint. The approximate failure and current mileages were 80000. The consumer stated the indicator light never illuminated to indicate there was a problem. Updated 07/08/10.

6 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2009

In my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. My airbag light would come on for two days. Then it would go off for three days. If I turn my wheels to the left it would come on then it would go off. When I took it to autozone to check out why that light was on he stated to take it to the dealership to have it checked. But it never came back on till a week later.

7 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2008

The air bag light came on and stayed on and the horn quit working. I had to have clockspring and passenger airbag jumper wiring replaced costing $524. 00. These are parts previously recalled on earlier models, should not be considered as "wearable" parts, and involve the safety of the vehicle and therefore should also be considered for recall for this year.

8 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2007

Airbag light has had to be reset by dealer several times since we have bought the vehicle new in 2002. Tired of paying $100 for them to provide a temporary, unexplained ineffective repair.

9 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

At 42k miles, the airbag light kept turning on and off. The dealership said "driver squib circuit open" and charged me to replace the clockspring. Problem went away for a while. But now at 72k miles, the problem is back. Why aren't the 2002's covered in the recall? my symptoms are identical to that listed on the recall (which only covers up to 2000).

10 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2006

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. The air bag light illuminated and has remained lit for some time. The dealer stated that the air bags were not under recall. The failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 09/16/08. Update 09/18/08.

11 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2005

Contact stated the air bag light illuminated intermittently. The dealer replaced the clock spring assembly. This appeared to have fixed the problem. There was NHTSA recall 02v293000 for this make and model, but not for the model year. Updated 11/16/2005 - the headlamps cut off while the vehicle was being driven. The fcm was replaced but now the problem is more consistent with flickering.

12 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

Air bag light kept comming on intermittently. First attempt at repair in 2004 resulted in no problem found, but the intermittent problem persisted. Second attempt at repair showed a bad clock-spring for the airbag that could result in a failure to operate properly during a collision (especially if the check airbag light was active). Other models of Dodge products have had recalls for this issue but there is not currently a recall on the 200 Grand Caravan ex (note that my vehicle is high milage with over 50k miles).

13 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2005

Air bag light come on and off during driving have check all connection and found no problem.

14 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2004

Airbag light turns on and off intermittently while driving the vehicle. Drb iii scan tool indicated driver's squib circuit #2 failure. Clock spring replaced, correcting the failure. Failed part retained by dealer.

15 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2003

5-8-02 wiring harness falls into serpentine belt. Harness not replaced, repaired also replaced cam sensor. I was told the belt wasn't put in properly at the at the Dodge plant. Van has intermittent power surges. Dealer cant find anything. Dodge gave me an extended warranty because of this problem. I think they knew something. -27-03 replaced transmission solenoid pack. 2-25-03 van making humming noise, could not find problem 8-22-03 air bag light is on. Replaced passanger side airbag. 8-22-03 speedometor out of calibration, instrments flipped around backwards 9-30-03 left front stabolizer bar making noise. Repared 9-30-03 car shaking during a turn, repaired 9-29-03 power surge again, can't find the problem 10-22-03 air bag light on again, replaced clock spring. I'm consulting an attorney, I feel this van is not safe. I want Dodge to replace the vehicle, it's a lemon and a danger on the road! who's to say if the air bag won't go off as I'm driving. . . Or maybe not, when I need it. This vehicle clearly has an electrical problem that will never be found. Voss Dodge has been very understanding about this problem. Unfortunately they can't figure it out either.

16 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2003

Reported airbag light to dealer. Set up appointment. Brought vehicle in, was informed that the body controler not communicating with airbag modual. Wiring ok, needs airbag module or bcm. Was then informed that it is not under warranty due to mileage. The mileage at the time of call into dealer was around 34,000. Because of their busy schedule it took over a month to get the vehicle into them. By the time I drove over to the appointment a month later the vehicle was "out of warrranty". Parts on back order.

17 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2003

I own a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan with approximately 11,000 miles. The air bag light has been illuminating intermittently while driving. The car is currently at the dealer for service and they indicated it would take several days to check out the wiring. As an electronic engineer I find this to be bizarre. The car has low mileage and the implication of the days to check response is that there is a frayed wire somewhere as the connector has checked out all right. If the cause is a chafed wire then there is a serious design flaw compromising the airbag safety feature.

18 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2003

On 4/17/02 I purchased a new 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. The salesman sold the vehicle to me with the airbag light on, informing me that it was supposed to be that way. Immediately after reading my owners manual, I discovered that it was not supposed to be that way. I made arrangements to have the van checked out and since then I have had nothing but trouble with the airbag light/seat belts/automatic doors, etc. This van has been in the shop eight times for the above reasons. On 7/24/03 the abs light along with the hydraulic brake light came on. I took the vehicle to the dealership and it is still there as of today's date - 8/23/03. I contacted Chrysler directly on 8/22/03 and informed them of the hazardous history of this vehicle - the airbag module has been replaced several times, the seatbelt tensioners replaced several times, automatic doors reprogrammed, etc. I informed the customer service representative, arlene, that I was afraid of the vehicle and did not want it back. I was informed by "arlene" that the vehicle parts had been delivered to the dealership and that the van would be fixed. I don't want the van "fixed". It doesn't stay "fixed"!! it is a safety hazard and I do not want to base my children's safety on their idea of a situation being "fixed" when their track record obviously stinks. Am I going to have to wait until an accident and either myself or, lord forbid, one of my children are sent airborne through the windshield? I was informed by "arlene" that since the van was not in the shop for the "exact defect" every single time, that I was not eligible for a new van. I would think that the fact that the airbag system has shown it has consistent problems, the seatbelts obviously have consistent problems and now the airbag system and hydraulic brake system lights are on - isn't that enough???? or do I have to die in an accident for my family to get a safe vehicle?.

19 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2002

First incident was the airbag light came on intermittently. The dealer repaired it last week. Today, the entire instrument panel functioned intermittently. Dealer was called and another repair date was set.

20 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2002

I purchased a new 2002 Dodge caravan on 4/17/02. On 5/27/02 the van was in the dealership with the airbag light on (this was the second time it was in the shop for this same problem - previously in on 4/25/02). According to the dealer, the seat belt tensioner circuit was opened, wires traced back from acm to tensioner, no crimps found, module needed to be replaced. The airbag control module was then replaced.

21 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2002

Problems with seat tensioner and automatics doors malfunctioning. Air bag light remains on, as a result consumer has had the seatbelt tensioner and airbag module replaced. Automatic doors have also malfunctioned and has been reprogramed.

22 Air Bag Light On problem
