1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2022

Several times in past year after filling the gas tank, shortly after driving away from gas station the engine misfires and stalls. This has been a safety hazard when merging into traffic. This problem is widely noted in forums on the internet for Chrysler minivans, for many other model years including the 2005. The best explanation being given (link follows) is that the vapor/liquid separator valve on top of the fuel tank has failed, a part that is not replaceable--the entire fuel tank must be replaced. Some report it happened when their minivan was brand new. Https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice. Com/engine-stalls-after-filling-tank-Chrysler-minivan/.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2013

The brain of the van has gone bad in under 8 years, causing van to read bad O2 sensor reading even after changing them. This causes the vehicle to stutter and idle rough and die while driving. When making repeated stops shutting down and turning vehicle back on, makes the conditions worse. It's been narrowed down to brain as automatic door locks do not work at all. Whether from key fob or using switch inside vehicle. This was family vehicle driven daily, but refuse to put kids in unsafe car.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2009

I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan sx. I have had trouble since one month of buying it. I take it back to the dealership who said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Since then, I've taken it back numerous times. They even kept it for a week and said they found nothing wrong with it. I would have to get it back to them when it had stopped. The problem is when I'm driving all the instrument needles go to null. Shortly thereafter, it starts to lose power. I once was in the fast lane on a busy highway when I happened to look down and every needle had gone down. I got in the low lane and pulled off the highway for safety precautions when it went dead immediately! I called roadside service. When I turned the key to check my mileage it started up immediately. That was scary, because if I hadn't looked down when I did and it lost power before I could get it off the highway, I believe the outcome would've been tragic. This only happened once a year or once every six months. However, one never knew when it would happen next! the last time I drove it for some distance I had almost gotten home (within two miles) it did it again, this time three times before I could get home. I feel blessed. To say the lease, I don't feel safe in it and I'm still paying for this trap. I was checking to see if there were any recalls when I found a daimler Chrysler problem website stating that they're not liable for anything that happens to someone injured or killed by these vehicles and they don't even try to fix the problem. I need an intervention of some sort. I can't afford this!.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2006

I bought my vehicle in Dec 2005, in June 2005 the air conditioner started blowing hot air, I brought it to the dealer on 2 separate occasions and they told me nothing was wrong with it. My vehicle has 39,000 miles on it and the a/c compressor just seized. I called my dealer to inform him of this and that it should be covered even though I'm 4,000miles over my warranty because of my earlier complaints, he told me he couldn't promise me anything but he would speak to his supervisor. I have not heard back from my dealer at this point.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2006

I originally called Dodge when this issue started and they would not do anything about it but when we would put the van in reverse the engine would not go into reverse and if you were not listening for it to "catch" you would put on the gas and be going forward. After calling a few times we just gave up and began a habit of shifting into reverse and making sure the vehicle was indeed in reverse. After several years of this we started having a problem with the vehicle speed. The engine would rev but the vehicle would not go if it was under any kind of strain, uphill or grade. After replacing everything from fuel injector to catalytic converter to spark plugs, wires and sensors and spending close to $1000 on it we ended up in a transmission repair shop which found our problem to be a cracked flex plate. That was $1500 more but the problem was fixed. The reverse is now working properly as well so I feel that this flex plate may have been the reverse issue as well.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2005

Purchased a 2005 doge Grand Caravan from bob caldwell Dodge dealership about 2 months ago. A little over a month of having the vehicle the air conditioning just stop putting out cool air and we noticeds some spots of something leaking in the drive way. We took the vehichle back to the dealership where we purchased and they indicated that a stone or rock had went through the air conditioner's compressor. There was nothing they could do and it would be $800+ to fix it. They indicated also that we weren't the first and that because of the design and the placement of the compressor that we won't be the last and even if we fix it, it will probably happen again. We called Dodge directly and they spoke with the dealership and agreed that this was not something that they would considered under any warranty and denied to cover the payment of the services. We called around locally to other dealerships and there was a total of 5 in less then one week and all agree that is was some sort of design/placement flaw and that this would continue to happen. We could attach a screen protection somehow to the front to protect the compressor but still no guarentees.
