Premature wear and failure of front wheel bearings, all rotors, brakes and pads. Possible failures are due to inferior parts being used during vehicle assembly.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. Additionally, the key failed to release from the ignition. The contact was able to release the key and restart the vehicle. The contact also stated that the brakes started to grind while driving with the illumination of the esb and abs traction control warning lights. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the front routers and brake pads were replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. Parts distribution disconnect. Aw.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the brakes had to be replaced prematurely. The rear brakes were originally replaced at 41,000 miles. The contact stated that the brakes failed shortly after the replacement due to the rear calibers not releasing. The failure caused the rear rotors and brake pads to wear prematurely. The dealer advised that the parts needed for the repair were on backorder to the issue being widespread for the make and model. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and the current mileages were 41,000.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2012

We were driving on the freeway when a strong odor was coming into the vehicle. I pulled off on the next exit ramp to check were the smell was coming from. The back rotor failed (locked up), on the rear drivers side, turning the rotors white hot and causing them to smoke. Drove vehicle home after a half hour and vehicle was fine but this keeps occurring for the next two months every time the vehicle is driven over 15 minutes. Bring vehicle into Dodge dealership and ask why the braking system keeps failing and the told me a TSB has been issued and is a known problem. Dealership stated they are having numerous problems with the brakes on this model. They agreed to replace the front brake pads/rotors for $100 but I had to pay to have the rear brakes/rotors replaced. It is now two weeks later and I am having the same problems with the rear brakes !!!!!!!!!!! I have never experienced so many problems with a vehicle as this vehicle. Five recalls and various other issues with this poc !!!!!!!!!!! there are numerous complaints about the brakes of this vehicle please google and see for yourself. The brakes on this vehicle need to be recalled before someone is killed. . . . . Please look into this issue and have the brakes on this vehicle recalled before someone dies !!!!!!!!!!! I have three children and do not feel safe in this vehicle but like most americans I can not afford to purchase another new vehicle !!!!!!!! this is a major safety issue !!!! I have bailed out Dodge twice now and no more. . . . . Start protecting the consumer and not corporate America !!!!!!!!!!! thank you !!!!!!!!!!!.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2011

Replaced front brakes at 21150 miles. Told by smithtown Dodge & Chrysler(new york) that there is a service bulletin but no recalls on the brakes. Did some research online and discovered this is a major problem with the 2008 Dodge caravan. There are hundreds of stories of brake replacement with low mileage. The dealer even admits there is a design flaw that the pads are too small for the size vehicle. There is the same problem with the rear brakes, with stories of wheels locking up. Being a retired mechanic I think this is a serious problem. Just consider a van full of people not being able to stop, or worse have a wheel lock up at 55mph on a highway. I think there should be an investigation into this problem. People's lives should come first.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

Front brakes worn out at 18k miles - not covered under warranty - not considered defective? pads gone - rotors heavily grooved.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2011

Purchsed used 2008 grand carvan 2/12/10 with 29,695 miles, all four rotors and pads needed to be replaced by 39,471 miles on 03/23/11. Now at 52,500 miles and 10/10/12 all rotors and pads need to be replaced again. Brakes should not wear like this. Dodge is aware of the problem and does nothing.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2011

Here we go again. Front brake problems at 18,000 miles on a 2008 Grand Caravan. Then the recall, now the rear brakes at 35k. After discussion with the service manager he stated the rear brakes could wear out at 8k miles(r u kidding me) some service manager. Back brakes should last at least 40-50k when not towing. The rear brake calibers and pads have the same defects as the front. I changed the rear pads and 1 glide was missing and that pad was worn alot more than the other 3. Thanks Dodge, great vehicle. Also who was the genius that came up with the 225 65 16 tire size, nice job.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2011

I was driving my vehicle down the road, it had been about 10 minutes since I had left the service department of my local Dodge dealer to have my a/c serviced. My rear brakes had been serviced less than 6,000 miles previously and had been checked the night before by a just brakes technician. As I was driving I began to hear some squealing. When I stopped at a red light I noticed a huge amount of smoke pouring out of the rear of my car. I was able to accelerate enough to coast in to the just brakes shop where technicians looked at my vehicle and discovered a total brake failure of my rear brakes. The temperature had reached so high that the assembly itself was white hot and smoking. Had I not been closer to the shop my brakes might have failed because the pads were totally destroyed when they took them off. I have the old pads in my possession.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2010

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan with 27,000 miles on it needs to have all four sets of brake pads and front rotors replaced for the second time. The front pads have were replaced 13,000 miles ago and have already worn down so far that they are cutting grooves into the rotors. I am a professional mechanic and have never seen brakes wear out in 12,000 miles. Dodge refuses to replace the brakes citing that they are wear items. They should wear out in 50,000 miles, not 12,000. I feel that this is a serious safety problem as even when new, the brakes are seriously under engineered. I have to press the pedal almost to the floor for normal stops and in the event of panic stops, I have had more than enough near misses where the van just didn't stop in time and I wound up off the road on the shoulder.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2010

Premature brake wear. Rear brake pads replaced (15000 miles). Front brake pads replaced twice in 32000 miles. Rotors replaced at 32000 miles. Now rotors are warped again. Travel around town and minor highway only. No heavy breaking, etc. No accident yet!.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

Brakes pads wear out fast and rotor keep warping. Have had brakes replaced 5 times already. I am only up to 54,000 and I need brakes again. The last brake and rotor job was at 39k.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. After attempting to stop, the wheel vibrated causing difficulty when the contact tried to stop. The dealer stated that all four rotors and brake pads had failed; the front brake pads and rotors were replaced under warranty and the rear parts were replaced at a repair shop at the contact's expense. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the failure was common but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 25,817 and the current mileage was approximately 29,000.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2010

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. 3 incident of premature brake failure. Rotors and pads metal to metal at 27250 miles. Rear brakes 90 gone after 11,000 miles.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2010

We own a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. We had to replace the front brake pads at 20,000 miles. To which the mechanic said that was abnormally soon to need new pads. Now at 35,000 miles the pads need to be replaced again and it appears the rotors are warped. A recent discussion with a friend who owns the same year, make and model has the same situation of premature brake pad erosion and needs a second replacement with even less miles than we have on our vehicle. Originally we believed we were just harder on our brakes than normal but with two replacements and warped rotors within 35,000 miles we believe there's a bigger issue. Additionally there are strange noises from the front brake area and there's a concern that there could be other issues. Due to the importance of the braking system and how quickly the 2008 Grand Caravan's are failing we believe it's only a matter of time until someone is hurt due to this abnormal condition. Thank you.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2010

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan rear brakes. Upon visually inspecting brake system on the rear driver side uneven wear was detected mostly on the inside pad. Semi-metallic compound located towards the back side of the pad was almost worn down to the metal while the front side of the pad still had enough compound on it that the wear indicator is not making contact with the rotor. Brake failure is imminent and the wear indicator will is not providing any sound warning that the compound is worn down to the metal. Dealership was not able to explain the reason for uneven brake pad wear on the rear brakes. They were not able to explain why the wear indicator was not making contact with the pad even though the technician stated the pads are 95% worn. Chrysler offer to fix the problem is to replace pads and rotors with similar materials. Front brake pads are also worn down 95% and dealership acknowledged a TSB# 05-006-08 did apply to my make and model of vehicle however they refused to apply the service based on the mileage on the vehicle (27,288 mi). While the issuance of the TSB indicates a concern for the front brakes on the van, having my driving habits extend the brake life up to the 27,288 mile point disqualified me from having such TSB applied to the van. My concern is there is no prior warning of brake failure since the wear indicators do not make contact with the rotor when there is potential for having metal to metal contact between the rotors and pads.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2010

I have replaced brake pads and rotors 3 times in the last three years and I now have to bring in my van to have brake pads and rotors replaced yet again. Chrysler says they don't have an issue, however they have numerous complaints on the web plus they did one recall where all they did was replace the pads. They would not replace pads on my van since I had already done so. The pads had been replaced once before I purchased the van also. I have about 80,000 miles on my van and this will be the fifth or sixth set of brake pads on this van.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the brake pads and rotors had to be replaced at 20,000 miles. The vehicle also had a hard vibration in the steering wheel and brake pedal. The road conditions or speed of the vehicle had no affect on the failure. The failure and current mileage s were approximately 20,000.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2010

Premature and immediate brake pad failure. No indicator warning and severe safety issue. All brake pads failed within the first year of owning the van and still no recognition from Dodge of major safety problem. Safety of my children is of no concern to Dodge.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2010

1. ) standard driving city and highway noticed squealing couple days ago 2. ) at 22,000 mile our van has no pad and rotor is defective on passenger side, and driver side brakes pads are worn but rotor showing signs of wear. 3. ) will have to replace the brakes.

21 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

The brakes on this vehicle are wearing out rapidly. The front brakes and rotors had to be changed at 13,000 miles. When the service was done it was noted that the front left rotor was grooved and was replaced along with the brake pads. The right front rotor was not changed. It was also noted the front end allignment was pulling to the right. The dealer rotated the tires and noted tire wear was the problem. The vehicle had 17144 miles and the allignment was still pulling. The dealer checked and stated the front end was set at manufacturers specs. The vehicle had 23,922 miles and the front brakes were sqeaking and grinding again. The dealer changed the front rotors and brake pads. The vehicle had 28,343 miles and the front end was sqeaking and shuddering when braking at any speeds. The dealer checked the alignment and reset the toe. By this time the tires on the vehicle were completely worn below 3/32 tread depth. The dealer stated this was the cause of the alignment problem. The dealer changed the front rotors and brakes due to them being grooved and warped. The dealer was told the noise sounded as though it was coming from the rear brakes. The dealer told me the rear brakes and rotors were warped and the pads were severely worn and should be replaced. The rear brakes were not even inspected at any time when the front brakes were completely ground down to metal. The dealer could only tell me the rear brakes were no longer under the warranty. Please help!!!.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

I received a letter from Chrysler/Dodge llc, informing me about a defect in the brake components of my 2008 Dodge caravan. In the letter it states that I am responsible for getting my own brakes replace because my warranty have expired. The brakes pads have been replaced twice within the last six months and I have been told by a local Dodge dealer the rotors need to be replace and I've only had the car 1 year and 7 months. I have called Chrysler/Dodge llc repeatedly only to receive extremely bad customer service. I don't feel like I should have to pay for their mistake.

23 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2010

High pitch sound turned out to be brake pads need replaced. Service man is surprised that the pads are worn out with only 21k miles on the van. Rear rotors also rusting bad. I found out that this is a common complaint. Chrysler Dodge should upgrade the brakes so the pads will not wear out fast. The pads are also very expensive compared to other vehicles. Are they going to wait until an accident happens before the brake is fixed?.

24 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact noticed that there was excessive brake wear within a few months after the vehicle was purchased. He took the vehicle to the dealer for excessive oil consumption and was informed by the dealer that both the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired when the complaint was filed. The manufacturer stated that there was nothing they could do to assist him. The current and failure mileages were 14,369.

25 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle began to shake as the contact was depressing the brake pedal. The contact noticed the brakes would hesitate to respond and there was also a burning smell present. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician replaced the front brakes, the hubs, the wheel bearings and the tie rod. After the repairs the contact noticed that the rear brakes would hesitate to respond. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic advised the contact that the brake pads and rotors would have to be replaced due to excessive corrosion and pitting. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2010

The brakes on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravans are a joke, after 17,00 miles and several trips to the dealership with concerns about squeaking brakes, they say the van needs all new pads and rotors! after 17000 miles!!!.

27 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving approximately 35 mph, she heard a loud grinding noise coming from the passenger side whenever the brake pedal was engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that noise was metal to metal and the brake pads were completely worn out. The rotors had to be replaced. 29 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2009

I have a 2008 Dodge caravan ant the brake pads went out at 14756 with no warning. It was christmas eve my wife was nine months pregnant and I have 2 small children. There was no warning then suddenly the brakes were metal to metal and no parts store open we were stranded. They would not tow it under warranty. So I had to wait for a tow on christmas eve. Dealer said not under warranty not our problem I was lucky to get 14,000 out of them that's pathetic. Thanks Chrysler. . . . . . Last one I ever buy. .

30 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Squeaking brakes at 18,000 miles. Need my rotors turned and new pads. I was appalled!! there has to be something said when there are so many people complaining about the life of these brakes. Called Chrysler and got the "12 mos. Or 12k, I'm sorry" I'm not buying it!! imagine how many people do not realize this is not normal. I would like to see Chrysler build or buy a better quality product that will last at least 36,000. I paid alot of money for my new van so I would not have to worry about this kind of nonsense so soon. Please, I plead with everyone who has this same complaint to take it as far as you can. Don't let the "customer service" at Chrysler just tell you nothing can be done, take it as far as you can. There is strength in numbers people, this is America. We can build a car that lasts 100,000 miles without an oil change, but rotors and pads only last 13k to 20 k, that's just bologna and we all know it!!.

31 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

I own a 2008 Dodge caravan. It has 16,234 miles on it. I took it in to be serviced for its first major service appointment. The mechanic at the dealership came out to talk to me and said that the pads, shoes and rotors were near failure. He also stated that the car was unsafe to drive in that condition. This was a Dodge dealership and I assume that they know their product. I was concerned about the failure so I looked into it and found that this was a fairly common problem for owners of this car.

32 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

2008 Dodge caravan. . . At last three oil changes have asked service staff to investigate ultra squeaky brakes (18k, 22k, 26k miles). Unable to determine source of extreme squeaking. Pads are 1/2 way gone on front and slightly more than that on rear. No way should this low mileage have brakes that are so worn and so squeaky.

33 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

I have to have my brake pads and rotors replaced many times. I just had new pads put on in July 2012 and will need new pads again in December 2012. My pads don't even last a year. This is very unsafe as the brakes start to deteriorate so rapidly I need to have them checked every three months during an oil change.

34 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced numerous brake failures. 35 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2009
