The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, while making a turn the vehicle stalled. The contact stated the vehicle could not be restarted and was towed to his home, where the contact diagnosed it as win module failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000 .
While parked in driveway, the horn started blowing erratically, headlights were on, and front and rear windshield wipers and washers operating. Door locks would not respond to remote. After s short period of trying to unlock the doors with the remote, they either responded to the remote or unlocked by themselves. At that point I attempted to turn the ignition on and start the vehicle. I started it and then turned it off but that did not stop the horn, wipers, etc. A few seconds after shutting the ignition off, everything stopped. Front and rear wipers did not return to park position until I manually turned them on and off. I started the engine again and had a check engine light with error codes related to the tcm, transmission control module. In addition, while driving, the heater blower motor intermittently stops working. All of this appears to be the result of a faulty tipm, totally integrated power module. This has happened twice in the last two weeks. First occurrence was 1/11/18 and second occurrence was 1/16/18. Searching online revealed that mine is not an isolated problem as there are many reported instances of tipm failures with similar symptoms.
As previously occurred, Chrysler concealed a known safety defect from its customers and then refused to help with repairs. The defective component is called the totally integrated power module (or tipm). The tipm consists of a computer, fuses, and internal relays, and is responsible for controlling and distributing electrical power to the entire vehicleeverything from steering and brakes, to the alarm, headlights, and the fuel pump. Since the tipm controls power to a wide variety of essential vehicle systems, including safety and security systems, the defect often leaves the vehicles incapable of providing reliable or safe transportation. Many class vehicles fail to start (or take dozens of attempts before the engine will turn over) because of the defect, and vehicles start up at other times only to stall, sometimes while traveling at high speeds. Vehicles also continue running without the key in ignition. The tipm defect has caused headlights and taillights to suddenly shut off. It has also caused horns to honk, car alarms to sound, and windshield wipers to activate all on their own. The tipm has also caused airbags to not deploy in some scenarios.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags) and 16v047000 (air bags). When the contact attempted to shift gears, the transmission seized without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wireless ignition node module and the occupant restraint controller needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the issue recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,222.
In reference to recall 11v-139, the wireless ignition module, (win), in this vehicle has exhibited symptoms of early failure and eventual permanent failure. It would allow the fobik to release into the accessory position, resulting in the cessation of movement and other vehicle functions on multiple occasions. In response, last year, Chrysler noted that parts are back ordered and only vehicles rendered inoperable or dangerously impaired were currently being serviced. This situation has not improved, the win module has compounded its dysfunction over the course of the preceding year. The win module will no longer recognize either fobik, and only the odometer will light up when a fobik is put in run position, rendering the vehicle inoperable. The win module design is prone to failure beyond releasing the fobik, it may also eventually fail to recognize it, perhaps as a symptom on constant disconnection or deeply flawed design. The situation with the backlog of repairs also appears to be worsening: fca us representatives have acknowledged that the back order of part 68241076ac may be as much as four weeks, even for a vehicle now rendered inoperable. I request that the recall be extended further still, to include permanent or persistent failure of these modules. Such a condition granting eligibility for the consumer to receive a rental vehicle for the duration of the repair, and a reexamination of the module design for the cause and probability of permanent failure.
The van engine shuts down while in drive. This has happened 4 times with in a week. It has shut down completely at an intersection. Even the hazards would not come on to show other drivers that I was broke down. I received a notice last year about a recall for the ignition module and I was put an a long wait list to have it fixed. On January 3, 2016 I had the recall taken care of at sherwood service in salisbury, MD. I have never had the engine failure happen before having the recall fixed, and now, it is happening. When the engine shut down the last time, my husband who was driving had to call the police to direct traffic around the van until the tow truck got there so he would not be hit! it blocked an intersection for 30 minutes until the van was towed away, when the van got home on the tow truck, it started up with no problem. Every time this has happened, the van has been in gear and driving when it completely shuts down and it has either gone over a small bump or been turning. I would also like to add that I had an appointment with sherwood Chrysler in salisbury, MD today(3/22/21) and they said that they could not find anything wrong with my van and tried send my husband home in the van without fixing the problem! he insisted that they drive it (which they would not do today) to see if it happened again. They still have my van.
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Consumer writes in regards to parts not available to repair wireless ignition node module detents recall notice. The consumer referenced recall # 14v373.
Wireless ignition node module recall r03/NHTSA 14v-373 according to the recall notice, my van may suddenly turn itself off while I am driving. I have registered for service and been on the waiting list for parts for six months. The dealership says that the manufacturer is not sending the parts and they have no idea when the parts may become available. I have not yet been in an accident caused by this recalled part (wireless ignition node module).
I was informed in approximately 2013 or 2014 of a safety recall regarding the wireless ignition module and key fob. I received additional notification that parts were ready in early 2015 regarding this recall. I have tried to schedule service for this recall with three separate dealers numerous times. I have been told it is unknown when parts will be ready. I have had the vehicle turn off due to this issue. The Dodge paperwork states they are concerned with my safety. And the recall should be complete in a reasonable amount of time. It has now been years since notification, and nearly a year since parts have been "ready" and the recall still isn't complete. According to Dodge statistics, as of oct 26, 2015, only 192,616 of 724,503 vehicles have been completed. This is not in a reasonable time and I feel as if Dodge is slow rolling this recall to save themselves money. This recall is similar to a 2010 recall.
I was sent a notice of "important safety recall" by fiat Chrysler automobiles regarding my vehicle's wireless ignition node module; ref: r03/NHTSA 14v-373. This was issued in October, 2014; I received the notice some months later. Despite several calls to my local Dodge Chrysler dealer, I have been unable to have this safety hazard repaired. Every call to rairdon's Chrysler Jeep Dodge of bellingham, wa has resulted in the same answer: "we don't have the parts and have no idea when we will get them. " as directed by the recall notice in the case that my dealer "fails or is unable to remedy this defect. . . Within a reasonable time," I am contacting you for assistance. Fiat Chrysler automobiles notified me in a timely manner about this hazard, but the local dealer appears not to be concerned about it. I thank you in advance for any assistance that you may be able to provide. Please note that my vehicle has so far not appeared to suffer the unintended engine shut off described in the recall.

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Consumer writes in regards to wireless ignition node module recall notice and issues at dealership. The local dealer informed the consumer, they were not responsible for replacement the part. Recall # 14v373000.
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Consumer writes in regards to wireless ignition node module parts not available to complete recall notice. The consumer stated he received the recall notice seven months ago. Prior to receiving the recall letter, he experienced intermittent problems at least every month with the vehicle stalling. The consumer finally traded the vehicle after the waiting for the parts, became too frustrating. Recall # 14v373000.
The first thing that happened was; we were driving down the road and the van just stopped running. Luckily we were only going 20 miles per hour and there wasn’t a lot of traffic. The power steering wasn’t working but my husband was able to steer the van off the road to safety. We called aaa and my husband went to the store to get dry gas because we thought that there may have been moisture in the tank from condensation. When he got back to the van he put in the dry gas and he decided to try to turn the van on and it turned over. We went home after that. After that the van seems to work for a while, then one day my husband came home from work and tried to shut the van off, but it would not shut off. The horn started blowing and the wipes, wiper fluid, lights and door locks were all working all by themselves. We unattached the wires to the battery but that did not work and finally started pulling fuses until it all stopped. He drove to work without the fuses until we could get it fixed. I called Chrysler and they said that there was a recall around may 2015. We brought the van into the dealer and they replaced the ignition module and gave us new key fobs. The van stalled again on the way home from work and we called aaa to get the van and take it back to the dealership. They said that they checked all the electric and ran a purge monitor test and others. The dealership said that they could not find anything the matter with the van and charged us $200. Just recently we were driving in traffic at around 20 miles per hour and the van stalled again. This time we did not have time to move it and a truck driver helped to push us out of traffic. My husband took the wires off the battery and put it back on and the van started. We went to the Toyota dealership and bought a car that day. We still own the van, but I am afraid to drive it.

Horns blaring , wipers going, washer fluid squirting rear wiper moving and washer fluid spraying. Car just came back after four weeks at dealer that could not find problem, with chryslers star assistance the customer assistance replaced the ignition module and two key fobs. Did not fix original problem. I have logged over forty hours of phone conversation talking to chryslers customer case managers and supervisors as well as dealer service advisor ,service manager and mechanics. There has been a complete disconnect between normal human caring and the robot like customer service. I am not sure how people can sleep at night after telling families to keep driving these unsafe vehicles that stall while driving. Lawyers after punitive damages only don't take cases for vehicles that were produced before Chrysler s bankruptcy. I don't blame them. Tipm modules seem to be recalled for vehicles after bankruptcy. I wonder if people remember 1994 Dodge caravan rear latches. Same old Chrysler profits before human lives.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the key was difficult to remove from the ignition switch and the key failed to turn over to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was an internal electrical failure with the win module. The contact was made aware of NHTSA campaign id number: 14v373000 (electrical system) and referred to the dealer. The dealer indicated that the part needed was not available to remedy the repair. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was not able to provide a timeframe for when the part would become available. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.
The wireless ignition node(win) module may have unitentional movement of the frequency operated button ignition key (fobik) from the on to the accessory position while driving. The manufacturer recall number :l25, the NHTSA recall number:11v-139. Well my vehicle shut down, had it towed to the dealership where it was purchased(murphy Ford, 1130 township line rd, chester PA 19013) on Friday, September 5, 2014 around 3pm. Call from them saying it would have to be taken to a Dodge dealership(18014 us 202, glen mills PA 19342). Call from this dealership on September 9, 2014. The part number for repairs to my vehicle is 689241069aa. I dont understand why this is not covered under the recall. This problem caused my car not to start and it locked in gear, locked the steering wheel, and locked all windows.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wireless ignition node control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000. Djr.
The first instance of my electrical system going haywire was around July 31, 2014. It was a quick moment that happened while I was coming to a stop. The wipers started going on their own, the horn honked, the windshield fluid started spraying, and my locks started going up and down. It stopped after about a minute then started again in the afternoon for about 5 minutes, until I unplugged the battery. It became an intermittent issue that I would think went away and then would happen randomly. I decided to bring my vehicle to the dealership service dept in October of 2014, where they diagnosed the issue as my needing a new win module. However, after that replacement, the issue continued. The issue happens whenever it feels like happening. Whether the keys are in the ignition and I am driving or if I am sitting in my office building, a distance away from my car, with my keys at my desk. My keys can be in the ignition, or out of the ignition. It doesn't matter. My car does as it pleases, when it pleases. Again, the locks, wipers, and windshield fluid just start going on their own. The horn also goes, but I have removed the horn fuses so I do not honk at random people when I am driving. Some forums say this is a tipm issue. Some say it is an ignition module issue. Some say it has to do with the driver's side door wiring. I have no idea what the reason is. I have spent thousands of dollars "fixing" this issue but it is still happening. Here is a link to a video of the most recent occurrence on 7/28/15.
2010 @ 40,000 miles, totally integrated power module (tipm) replaced due to electrical issues with door locks (under warranty). 2014 @ 124,000 miles tipm short again starting with the front blower motor. Tipm needs replaced again. Estimate $900, no parts available due to massive back order and no timeline of when parts will be available. Advised not to drive vehicle due to safety issues (I. E. Random airbag deployment, loss of ignition, fire hazard). Main vehicle for family of five, must drive daily for work and family appointments.
Serious safety issue. My van starts on its own. The horn blares and won't stop. Wipers come on and the engine won't stop. Does this without a key in the ignition. When driving you lose complete control of the transmition and the engine will not turn off. Dodge needs to do a recall and something needs to be done. I'm afraid to park in the garage because it starts on its own. I'm worried the carbon monoxide will asphyxiate my family. I've called the Dodge main headquarters and they play dumb like they never heard of this happening. I found thousands of complaints online. It's in the Dodge dealer right now. Hoping to fix the issue. They don't know what the problem is. The actual problem is called a bad tipm (totally integrated power module).
I received a wireless ignition node module defect safety recall from Chrysler in July 2014. Your data base suggests may 2015 as the date, but it's wrong. This is much older. The original recall was l25 NHTSA 14v-373. The fiat Chrysler hotline for recalls has the number as r03. They have failed to correct this defect within a reasonable time, because this is 14 months. A reasonable time might be a few weeks, I think. I call dealers here in the st louis area, they promise to call me when parts are in. I called the recall hotline for fiat Chrysler, I complain to my state's attorney general for consumers, and get nowhere. All I hear is "we can't get the parts. " well, I know many, many model cars are in this recall; not only gm, but Jeep, Dodge, etc. But I can't help it -- I am the one who is in trouble for the faulty ignition and fobik, and this package has fiat Chrysler's name on it. It's time to twist their arms really hard. This is safety. The safety recall hotline at Chrysler says this is their part, and they're not doing it, and I quote, "I don't know what to tell you. " well, tell them. . . . . . . I think I should be given a car to drive that is safe until they can do this required recall. Or they can refund my car price and the price of my lift equipment installed for a scooter lift in the rear of the car. I've had it. Waiting and hoping are not getting us drivers anywhere. They've got to do something and now before someone else dies.
Upon starting vehicle the fobik may not fully seated in "on" position. If not fully seated, the fobik could inadvertently move to "accessory" mode. This could unintended shut off the engine and passive restraint system, including airbag shut off. This could increase risk of crash under certain driving conditions and increase risk of occupant injury. Also, the wireless ignition node module may have unintentional movement of fobik. Two new fobik's are a part of recall procedure and will have to be replaced. Recall is a part of Chrysler notification codes: l25, r03.
On multiple occasions while driving or in park with or without key in the ignition. The wipers start going the fluid will spray the horn will honk the doors will lock. . (and has on 1occasion locked my children in the van and I could not get them out until it stopped about 2 minutes later) I've had the heat and ac stop working I've had transmission issues, lights going off while driving in the dark! multiple problems that all lead back to this timp module that Dodge,Chrysler Jeep will not recall nor fix. . And the dealership is no help either because they'll run multiple diagnostic checks and say there is nothing wrong even if you bring it in while it's having an episode and they clearly see there is a problem if the diagnostic comes back with nothing them they send you on your way because they can't help they say.
Our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan had an issue on the evening of April 21st, 2014 where the key just fell out of the ignition. It did not have an impact on being able to drive the car, but it just fell out. The next morning the vehicle would not start and the key would not turn or come back out once it was placed into the ignition. We had to have the vehicle towed to carmax where they completed the repair and we were fine with their service. We originally purchased the vehicle in November 2011. We were later notified by Dodge about a safety recall that involved a win module and they described the possible issues exactly as what happened to us. Since we had already gotten the work done and the vehicle has been driving great since carmax did the repair, we felt Dodge should reimburse us since that is what their recall notification stated. Now Dodge is saying it was a different part and they will not honor their own recall. Carmax was awesome and we are very happy with the vehicle, but not happy with Dodge since they acknowledge a manufacturer defect and refuse to honor it.
Van would not start at times or would staul out at times while driving and lose all power and breaks when we hit door open button it would open half way while my kids would be getting out then shut on them. Van now wont start at all got towed and the diagnostic came back the win module is cause of failure(wireless ignition module).
I was driving to work on Tuesday August 13, 2013 doing about 60mph, suddenly my windshield wipers came on, the horn started blaring, dashboard gauges stopped working (then started going crazy) and the engine turned off. I was able to pull over to the side of the road, I turned off the ignition removed the key but the nothing in the van would not turn off. The wipers were on, the horn was blaring and the dash gauges were still going crazy. This continued for about 6 to 8 minutes before everything just stopped. After about 3 minutes I was able to start the van and continue to work without issue. I called the dealership and told them the problem (it was in that shop for similar problem 2 weeks earlier) I dropped it off at the dealer the same day and as of today they it is still there (they cannot duplicate the problem…. . ) I've researched the problem online and I am apparently 1 of hundreds with the same issue with 2008 Grand Caravans. It is a faulty tipm module.
The first incident happened on 5/29/13 while my van was parked in my driveway. My vans lights flashed, the horn went crazy, the windshield wipers were going on their own. The car was not started and no key in the ignition. It was sitting there. This lasted about 8 minutes. I went to advanced auto after it stopped and had them check it with the machine. They told me it could be a battery problem but the code machine said the problem was caused by a power surge from a relay. He could not be sure which issue was causing the problem or what relay would do this. I bought a new battery in hopes that would resolve the problem. On 5/30/13 I got home from work and pulled in my driveway. My son asked to borrow my car to go to a friends house. He made it to the end of the road and the horn started beeping, windshield wipers started going, lights started flashing and the van began to accelerate. My son said he turned the key to the off position and removed the key from the ignition. The car continued to run without the key. This lasted for 10 minutes. The van is now parked because I researched the symptoms and came across hundreds if not thousands of the same complains lots of them recent. They all said it was the total ignition power module. I am very confused as to why Dodge knows of this problem and has not recalled the vehicles before someones life is lost. There are so many complaints and the severity of safety at hand over a defective part. I will never buy another Dodge again. How can I do business with a company that cares so little for human life. What if I was driving with my 5 children and this caused an accident. What if this hurt or even killed one of them.
This incident has happened 3 other times in the past. The first incident at about 5,000 miles and the second incident at 22,000 and a third incident at about 45,000. This last incident occurred on the highway traveling at about 67 mph. The headlamps turn off and the horn blares constant. The windshield wipers go at full speed (front and back) and the fluid is spraying everywhere. The doorlocks begin to flicker in the open and lock position. The brake lights are also shut off but the reverse lights are lit up. The tachometer and speedometer go to zero. You can maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and try to shut off the vehicle, but to your surprise the vehicle doesn't shut off. It keeps running! so as you are sitting there wondering what to do and unlock your door manually and then you have to unhook the battery and somehow that works. If you are lucky when you connect the battery back in the system goes back to normal. If your unlucky the horn and windshield wipers are still going strong along with all the other issues. Either way this system malfunction is being reported all over the internet and Dodge hasn't responded. They are reporting a tipm (total ignition power module) apparently the part is in such demand that you cannot order because they are backordered up to 800 units.
Driving the vehicle on a residential street. Engine quit suddenly and unexpectedly. Steering and brakes failed. Vehicle went off the road, over the curb and came to a stop. No property damage or bodily harm. If we had been traveling at highway speeds, fear of death would have been a real concern. The engine would not start for approximately a minute after the incident. Engine finally started and the vehicle was taken to a Dodge dealership. Diagnosed as a 'bad win module' (wireless ignition node). The technician actually guessed the problem was the win module before diagnosing the problem. He said it was a 'fairly common problem'. An online investigation revealed this part has a recall associated with it in the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan (our Dodge Grand Caravan is a 2008). The reason I am writing the NHTSA is the newly replaced win module is clearly a redesigned part. It looks and functions differently than the old, faulty win module. If Dodge redesigned the part, they must have assumed the earlier design was defective in some way. To justify the need for a redesign, there had to be some driving factor like improved safety. It is my belief that this defect had the real potential of causing death and I am requesting the NHTSA investigate this matter. Am I the first to have lodged a complaint regarding this part? thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the key would remain stuck in the ignition switch and fail to power on or off the vehicle. In addition, when driving the steering wheel seized and the vehicle stalled. The contact mentioned that the speedometer, the tripometer, the cruise control and the power doors failed. The power door locks only operated when the vehicle was powered off and the security door lock feature activated intermittently. The contact also stated that both the accelerator and brake pedal traveled to the floorboard as a result the vehicle delayed to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the control module, the transmission leak on the transmission line, the oil pan and the molding needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v373000 (electrical system) and NHTSA campaign id number: 11v394000 (air bags and equipment). The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Djr.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that when inserting the key into the ignition, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer and they advised her that the electrical control module needed to be replaced along with the key. The vehicle was repaired for the electrical control module and a new key was provided. The manufacturer was then contacted and they offered to reimburse the contact for her expenses. The failure mileage was approximately 60,400.
Same occurance happed 4 times in 6 months, dealer was not able to diagnose problem. While driving on the fwy in fast lane at night, the wipers go off washer fluid spraying, all lights flashing, horn blaring, transmission disengaged from gas pedal, after managing to pull over took key out of ignition and car was still running. Mananged to get car to the dealer next day and they said they cannot replicate the problem, I took my car home and again same incident. I was upset and drove the car with these symptoms happening to the dealer and they witnessed the issue, the technician pulled out all the fuses from the fuse box just to shut the car up. Still could not find the problem. Finally after the 4th time the issue was isolated to a tipm module which Chrysler factory said the part was on back order for 4 to 6 weeks and other dealers do not want to sell this particular part to other dealers ( got me thinking why ). Chrysler sells good cars but does not stand behind the safety of them. If anyone else has a tipm problem their lives are at risk just as mine and my families was. The dealer finally got the part after 4 weeks, and so far I pray that my car is safe.
